No sorry, but try to make the deadline for next round. Whenever that is :)

Sizes depend on the scaling, so there's plenty of freedom there. With normal scaling your sprite would appear pretty normal in the foreground of a screen.

There is one rather common school of sprite drawing that uses very clear cartoonesque characters, regardless of the realism of the background (such as Torrin's Passage, Monkey Island 3 and so on) so there's no real need for shading and excessive details unless you want to.

This is obviously very unproblematic for most people. I mean, with all the wishes of prosperity and liberty etc etc, but hey, it's just one party that won over another party in a very complicated conflict.
For one thing, it's very problematic for the Serbs living in Kosovo, or will be, and most of them haven't done jack shit to cause troubles in the region. Just because Milosevic was a madman doesn't mean the typical Serb should be regarded as some sort of oppressor.

Sure, good luck with your new nation, but we're not talking about some sort of freedom force here, just another group of people who decided a certain spot of land was theirs.

Your pictures are good because the colour schemes and the technique are well executed, but you could improve them tons by adding details. Pixel art benefits so much from details. Break up large areas with shades and cracks and just random hues. Add funny looking clouds to the sky, colourful flowers on the ground, textures to buildings, etc etc.
Add some sort of generic backdrop to the landscape, like washed out mountains with vague silhouettes.

Demos should be short. You don't want to tell the player "Haha! Thought you could play more without paying? Well you can't!!"
That'll just annoy people, and discourage them from supporting you further. They might also be bored with the prospect of re-playing too large a chunk of the game.

The extent of a demo should be very clear from the start, and preferably just one room or so, to let the player feel the game, like an appetizer. I think the best demos are purely cinematic, like a film teaser or something.

Emerald: I admit I was being a bit euro-centric by saying "noon" and expecting people to think Greenwich, but usually we go by official forum time here if nothing else is expressed.

Vince, it's disappointing that people don't care more for consistency, but it's rather expected isn't it? :) It'll be fun anyway, hopefully...

Well, it was the upper limit of 'kid' - he was like 19 or 20 or something. Old enough to know what he was doing, but young enough to suck at it.
As for the ski mask - I imagine it's not the first thing you think of when you're hanging upside down by a broken ankle in the middle of the night.

It doesn't need to be the first thing...he was apparently hanging there for quite some time. Sooner or later, it must have struck him as a good idea to remove this garment, seing how infinitely stupid it'd be to keep it on. It's after all a human being we're discussing, not a deer caught in a trap. I'm just arguing this because the picture of a perpetrator hanging upside down wearing a skimask is a comical element often found in urban myths...especially with the lawsuit follow-up.

EDIT (to keep on track):
In most countries, as a civilian you're not allowed to systematically survey or monitor another person. It'd most likely be regarded as stalking, even if you're only following or watching the person (during longer periods, of course).

I said noon, but it's ok. Just don't sign up more now :)

It's funny, I remember reading about a case somewhere in Northern Ireland, where this kid tried to break into someone's house. But while he was climbing over the fence, his ankle got caught between two wooden stakes, and he tripped and fell, and his ankle snapped in half, and he was left dangling there in extreme pain. He shouted for help, and the family woke up and called the cops. It was obvious to everyone he was a burglar - he even had a ski mask. However, the burglar sued the family, and amazingly won, based on the fact that the family didn't help him down from the fence, leaving him to suffer. Because all he technically did was climb over a fence - which was minor trespassing - it was considered unlawful to detain him.
Ironically, he probably made more money that way than he would have stolen...

For once, a lawsuit doesn't sound completely ridiculous to me. Normally when criminals sue their (potential) victims it strikes you as abuse of the judicial system, but this one...I mean, especially if it was a kid, why not help him down?
And why didn't he throw away or hide the ski mask while dangling there?

Nah we shortened the deadline :)
But good you brought it up, I'll edit the initial post.

Seems you got the ending, TheJBurger.
Allright, the order of posts in this thread is the order we write in. Once you recieve the document, you add your portion and send it along.

Babar, I'm sorry you didn't get a position you wanted, but it was never meant for people to request or bargain for positions.

Ok, Candall gets the ball rolling and sends it to Akatosh once he's done. No other must see the document until it's their turn.

Borrowing a computer here...

Allright, tomorrow at noon is deadline for signing up. Yes, only the order in this thread determines the order you write in. You can't ask for another position. And yes, 200 is the wordcount we're going for.

Keep signing up :)

Everyone's entitled to investigate in a crime, but you'd be pretty limited in what you can actually do. You can't put a person under surveilllance, you can't interrogate people and you won't have access to crime scenes. You can only intervene and hold down a criminal if you caught him in the act, or if he's a danger to you or people around you, and only until the police arrives.
Then again, there is far more information, records and acts etc, that civilians have access to than one might think. Lots of information is actually public, even though authorities don't exactly paint signs to it.

Oh come on, running out from a barber shop just because you notice the barber might be homosexual is a very provocative act.
It's a loooong way from holding hands and singing cumbayaa to making public displays of resentment.

Let me draw up a chart for you:
1. Not coping with a certain type of people, like rather not be friends with them = ok, but it doesn't make sense.
2. Making public statements, like choosing to sit as far away as a black person on a bus or leaving a room because there's a gay person in it = narrow-minded and stupid.

I dunno, I'm just allergic to the claim "you're intolerant because you don't tolerate intolerant people!!" It's just silly. This has nothing to do with political correctness, it's about understanding that everyone deserves to be treated like a freaking human being, regardless of colour or sexual preferences. If you didn't learn this in school, it's your loss. Try to change.

I'm in :)

Stupot, no it's much neater with a properly formatted word document. Especially when the story reaches a couple of pages, having a huge block of text as a pm is just an eye sore.

By the way, the reason I picked Monday was because I'll be away a couple of days. We could shorten the signing up-deadline to Saturday if you think we have enough writers by then. Of course, the first person on the list (that would be Candall) will have the responsibility to start at that date.

Babar, you need to reply again with a post at a position you prefer, and I'll remove your first post. This goes for the rest also; the order of the posts is the order we write in. If you don't like your position, then reply again and I'll erase the first post. Don't post in a position you don't want to write in.

Yeah, I'm sure the world would be a much better place if we would be all tolerant towards racism, xenophobia, homophobia, sexism, misogyny...
Sure.

I'm sure it would. Do you really think you're solving anything by censoring/attacking people who think that way?

I know a guy who's the nicest, gentlest person you'll ever meet. He's thoughtful, optimistic and a pleasure to be around, but he is deathly homophobic. Like, he can't stand to be in the same room as someone who's acting gay. Once, he went in for a haircut, and upon discovering the barber was gay, ran out without looking back.
It's a completely irrational fear, but he can't help it. Should he be punished for that?

This whole 'politically correct' thing is an exercise in hypocrisy.

Yeah and I know this person, he's the best, kindest, most lovable creature God ever conceived, and he can't be in the same room as women, coloured people, gypsies, homosexuals, dwarves or Irishmen. He actually starts throwing stones at them. But he can't help it, and can we blame him? I mean, we have to be tolerant towards his abnormality.

Critics' Lounge / Re: 2 songs, critique please

Thanks all, I read your comments carefully.

Jack: Yes, sometimes I feel like a slave under my lyrics, I feel a need to articulate them as well as possible. And yeah, adding a more interesting guitar part is certainly on my to do list.

Damien: Agreed, I should work out better back up melodies.

Evil: Yeah there are some pronunciation issues I guess. Generally I strive to maintain a British accent, but vocals flow better in American, for some reason. Especially omissions (but also the distinct t's) tend to obstruct the flow. I should really try to give the lyrics a better flow, instead of articulating them staccato-like.

Nikolas: Yes, Poseidon needs variation. My biggest problem is that I'm not musician enough to perform a solo - a problem that would solve itself the day I get myself a band...I think that would improve my music astronomically, since it's quite dependent on nice instrumental delivery.

Thanks all, I'll continue my composing here.
