I think it's also important, while defending your rights to keep dry and clean, not to moralise or condemn those who choose to actually drink, smoke and dance or whatnot.
I agree that young teenagers boasting about how drunk they can get are silly and annoying and moreover a danger to themselves.

QuoteAnd for the record, I dislike smokers and drinkers and associate with either as little as possible.
This sounds rather obstinate, Progzmax. So as soon as you find out that a person is a drinker, you quit your friendship, even though that person may have a great personality? You describe them as if they were a different species altogether, and that comes across as a bit judgemental.

At 17 it's too early to start worrying these things; your entire personality can/will change several times during the next 5-10 years.

I don't know about drinking, I just tend to enjoy getting drunk once in a while. Never completely wasted, not to the point where I become another person or start losing memory, just slightly un-sober. It's relaxing and it helps me digest my thoughts and emotions.
I'm rather social and have a rather easy time making friends, but I was a late bloomer and was rather shy and introvert in my late teens. When I was 17 I had never been drunk, and my social life was mostly about playing games with my (strictly male) geek-crew.

My girlfriend is rather strictly non-drinking; she sometimes has a few alcoholic sodas just to fit in the Swedish mentality, and I've only seen her remotely intoxicated once or twice so far. Still, she's a social miracle, and can make friends just by scratching her back. So don't worry that skipping the drinks will make you lonely; in the long run it's all about who you are.

But hey, it's like they say in the bible; wine is wonderful.

What is it for? A tarot card? Why do you show it in such a small resolution?
It would be handier if you displayed the full resolution picture, along with a description of how you painted it, so that we know what you can possibly do with it.

Tobey Maguire?

Quite a mighty moustache you've got there, ye pirate

Great material, all, now let's close this OT-factory.

The outlining is ok, in its simplicity, although the nipple is angled quite strangely...the colouring, though, seems very unfinished. Did you have any plan for the colours? They look very random, to be honest.

I think far too many people celebrate this day far too often...

I liked it! It wasn't so much for the idea or the plot - which was ok but a bit clichée - but the acting and the editing was actually quite good. Low key and unpretentious, and very efficient. I almost liked it better when they were just sitting and talking before the sci-fi part.

Ooops, sorry. Yeah, I meant 50k. I have a page, only 79 left!  :D

Just use ctrl-A, ctrl-C and ctrl-V and repeat 79 times!

How many pages usually are 20,000 words? I might join... Does if matter if I do it in Spanish?

I guess you mean 50,000 words, in which case it's about 80 pages of normal 11pt text.

Good walkcycle though it does look a bit shortish IMO. Of course I am a giant...

The height looks good to me. Don't listen to the freaky giant.

Hm, no, the height doesn't look good. He's about 4-5 heads tall when a normal person is 7-8 heads tall. That's what makes him look like a midget.

It's good, there's a nice retro atmosphere to it.
A bit too much cymbals perhaps...you could vary the drums a bit and stay off the cymbals for some periods...or it could be the hi-hat that simply "crashes" for too long a period of time

There's nothing wrong with hosting freewares, the problem is being seen amongst the multitude of sites already doing it, and generating enough clicks to get the money back.

Also, I highly doubt people will edit their intros just to include an ad to your site.
Nice initiative though.

The upper part (cut like a bust) looks good and realistic. It's the lower part that looks undefined and strange.

meter like sonnets

or pentameter

or even lim'ricks...

haiku gets boring

Good post, Auriond.

Learning is painful, exposing yourself and your creations to the anonymous masses can be awkward, but c&c and feedback is the best way to learn.
I've published my art on this board ever since it was first opened, and every time, no matter how much I've tweaked and adjusted it, I get useful advice on how to improve it further.

Ah well, made a little paint-over.

x2

Not really into manga/emo stuff at all, just tried to stylize your portrait a bit, pull it together sort of. Rather drastic changes I guess, although I tried to preserve her slightly sickly image.

Ok, giving an initial round of C&C here.

First of all, I also played this back in the early nineties on a friend's amiga, so there's a fair amount of nostalgia involved. I remember that we kids played this with remarkable enthusiasm, considering how lengthy and repetitious the gameplay is. I have a hard time believing a group of boys could gather in front of the monitor and feel excitement over any game of this type today. But back then we were happy to see graphics that weren't just scrolling textures or tiles, and stuff that you could interact with, people to speak with etc.

CfaC's biggest strength is the background graphics, I believe, and it's biggest weakness is the GUI. Not only does the GUI feel quite overlooked design-wise, but it's downright illogical at times. Suddenly a couple of seemingly synonymous verbs are added after eachother (examine, search, look etc) and which verbs are available seems arbitrary. Some things can be operated, other manipulated or used. Two identical items may both be useless or impossible to interact with, but still one of them can offer several more verbs to choose from (pick up, get, turn over, open etc).
I think this is a common symptom of its time, but CfaC is too interactive. Too many hotspots devoid of function, simply. In order to lengthen the gameplay, the designers let the player spend half the time just clicking on featureless objects.
This game would be hugely improved with a simpler GUI and less useless hotspots.

In another attempt to add to the game length, you're required to re-visit every location over and over again. Partly because some locations can only be entered at certain times, but also because they will contain different elements and characters depending on when you get there. Quite silly.

Once you've grown accustomed to repeating everything you do ad infinitum, the game starts to feel pretty nice actually.

My next post will be more directly about the plot and the progress I've made.
