This is a cover of a Swedish song, a ballad written and performed by the slightly mysterious Kjell Höglund. The only original version I could find online was here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_I_mro-hkU.
My (rather corny and not so strict) translation to English lyrics.

http://www.andail.com/lake.ogg

I tried to make this very rocky and a bit garage-ish, so there's an unusual amount of compression and distorsion for being me, but also less panning (maybea bad thing?) and a very uncomplicated arrangement; just drums, two guitars and a bass.
I might also add that I haven't heard this song on ordinary speakers yet, as they broke before the recording, so I only know what it sounds like through phones.
C&C appreciated.

300 kilograms of TNT was about to be exploded in the city center where I lived on the 11th of September, just the same date with that other disaster.

"...that other disaster", lol.
Well, scary anyhow, and I who was in Turkey just weeks ago!

Brad, don't know about your joke really, since a lot of people, including me, thinks that Bush bears a lot of responsibilty for the tension around the world. Don't know what Kyoto has to do with terrorism though, but let's not start a neverending political debate once again.

That was professional. Like Ren & Stimpy or Ichy & Scratchy.
Not my cup of tea humour-wise, but hey.

Too much pillow shading, too much gradients, too many pixels astray. The shadows and highlights are spread out everywhere and there's no real focus.

Also, his facial expression is completely...boring. He needs much more personality to be interesting to look at.

Dunno, tossed up another version:

I probably changed a lot of his appearence here, but painting portraits never seemed like Grundi's strong side, so I took some liberties.

x2:

It's a matter of preferences of course, I but I think this kind of shading is more old school adventure. I also tried to give him some sort of facial expression; in this case the young sceptic investigator thinking through his clues.

The first strokes are just Am and F with some extra notes, then there is

Am F C G

twice, and on "this is", it starts with Dm and pretty much goes on like that.
I can't tell you the exact notes but these basic chords should be enough to play it, I reckon.

Yes! I prefered it when the AGS forum was just a collection of chalkboards in CJ's basement. When you had made a game, you could announce it using his toy megaphone.
Those were the days!!

Yes, it's rather strange how so many people can be so possitive about a case they have very little insight in.

All I can say is that the police are working pretty logically; it does happen that kids die in their homes by domestic violence or just accident (much more often than by the hand of an unknown perpetrator), shit happens, and as much as it would be horrible for the parents to be wrongfully accused, it's a possibility the police must account for.
It's just that in this particular case, the parents are a couple of doctors, white, loved, normal and popular etc, and therefore people have such difficulties accepting the thought of them being the culprits.

quite possible, just applying my knowledge of the local law here to what happened some kilometres away. after all, all I can do is speculate.

Tampere is some kilometres away from Portugal? You must enjoy the hot summers down there!
Sorry, I'll stop being a bastard and splitting hairs now! :)

Are you sure they left because they were suspects or that they were made suspects because they left. as far as I know, a suspect isn't allowed to leave the country while under suspicion.

Are you very familiar with Portuguese law? They are indeed suspects, but I think the Portuguese police are quite confident the Mccanns won't escape if they get called back to court. It's not exactly the Jackal they're dealing with.

Sorry matey, that's not how we run this operation. The general board is not an advertising page.

What you do is that you use the sticky thread in the chat forum, there you can advertise for team members and get some attention for your project.

When you have made some progress you can start a thread in the GiP forum, but only if you follow the rules there or Darth will eat you for brunch.

Your project sounds promising, good luck!

I think one thing you can say for sure is that there is absolutely no way you can "see" if they're innocent or not by how they react or appear.

Finally, if you watch any interview or video of these people, you can see that they're people with nothing to hide. At no point have they shown signs of dishonesty, or fear of answering certain questions, or acted in any way suspicious.

No, Yufster, the human psyche is capable of marvellous things. Even if they did accidentally kill their daughter, they'd probably not believe it themselves by now. The human mind has incredible defense mechanisms.

It's perfectly natural that the police are investigating the parents' part in the whole affair, considering that such deaths - be them accidental or not - are stastistically speaking most likely to be caused by a family member.

Edit:
As for the whole paedophile issue, I recommend watching the movie Little Children. Even though you may not be expected to sympathise with the paedophile, the movie does a good job on describing the minds of those are the most hellbent on spewing their hate all over him; those with great sense of guilt or angst themselves.

I have an extremely hard time understanding how you can not feel sorry for a paedophile. Growing up and realising that you have such tendencies must be the worst nightmare ever. Obviously, nobody chooses to develop such a sick mind.

No, it's not very good. The best - and maybe only - way of testing these things is to set up a test group and see what they think the picture tells them. I can save you the hassle to conduct such research and tell you that said group would not think of a sci-fi empire, they would more likely think of a tourist resort.

Complexity is not really an issue these days; many logotypes are utterly complicated and hard to reproduce. But this is a flag, not a company logo, and this should be easily transformed to a large number of environments - uniforms, stickers, badges etc.

Recognisable shapes or symmetrical shapes, or both. I think this is key. Just throwing random lines and shapes together doesn't work. Best idea would be to take a well known object or figure and stylise it to just a silhouette or something.

I live in one of the most criminal and violent parts of Gothenburg, and even though this is just cozy little Sweden, crime is quite a problem here.
The place I go to shop has been robbed several times the last year, there have been a least a couple of killings just some blocks away and lots of gangs roam around making trouble. I was witness to a rather serious assault and battery aboard the tram not long ago. A friend of mine was attacked and held down while they took his mobile phone a few years back.

My girlfriend and mother nag on me constantly that I should move, but flats in nicer areas have become ludicriously expensive, and I'm not even employed currently.

I didn't even bother to start reading it. Such a brick of text is just intimidating. Hrrrrrr.

With most of those beat 'em up games you don't need to see what you're doing, you just need to tap all those buttons as fast as you can!

Yes, there is nothing inherently alien in echolocation - that is, the human senses and brain could certainly be used for it - but our equipment isn't the best. Most animals employing echolocation probably emit sounds of very high energy and need ears tuned for those frequencies.
The human ears are not designed for high frequencies, since we need them to hear speech. Our sight is so vastly superior as a means of locating stuff that ears never came close during our evolution.

Interestingly though, every type of information input can be interpreted "naturally" if we just learn to accept it as another sense. Experiments with implants letting the test subject register a spatial dimension using hi-tech sonar showed that the subject after some time started to interpret the signals as natural sensory input. I don't have any references for this, I just remember reading it somewhere. Of course, the people in the experiment might have wanted to make it sound more impressive than it was.

I think they definitely have some use for that sound thingie, but I also think the reportage tries its best to portray those people as superbeings, like Daredevil or something.
I mean, perfect accuracy during a pillowfight? Who has that, even with functional eyes? That seemed totally edited to me.
Also, blind people have extraordinary abilities to memorise things, like paths they usually take, so knowing where the trashbins and trees are located could just as well be part of his mental image of his neighbourhood. Which is of course quite impressive.

General Discussion / Re: PC Rituals
Mon 03/09/2007 10:48:44
My ritual is that I never just sit down to play when I'm not fixed and ready, like before breakfast or without having dressed or tidied up, etc. I almost always make a cup of coffee for my first computer session, whatever it is.

When I play moorpg's, I always choose female character because they are treated slightly better, i.e. I can more easily get people to help me if I look pretty. In single play rpg's I probably go for males, just to make them resemble the character of my boyhood tabletop sessions.

Wow, I love how this post make me sound like the world's biggest geek.

ATC and OROW are two vastly different activities, and I don't see how they can be compared.

ATC was designed to help members practice on team work and co-operation, to work organised. Even with no released games, you couldn't say that ATC failed; the activity itself was to work together. And everybody knows that working in a team is the hardest part of...well, anything.
I don't see why certain people advocate so strongly against it, especially seeing that it did result in some very interesting projects, some even released. I am absolutely possitive that the experience has been very fruitful for plenty of AGSers in the community.

OROW is simply designed to produce as many games as possible.

Saying that OROW is better than ATC is like saying "nah, I don't think we should have Sprite Jam. I think we should let everybody paint any sort of picture they want, and then we list all the pictures in a thread."

I think OROW works great; it's an inspiration boost and it obviously helps people produce a lot of games. It's just not the same kind of activity.
