How about everyone just wait till it's done, and then we can have one big thread where everybody can comment on it.
It won't work if every Joe Smith starts a thread just to tell what he thinks about it; this is a forum for everybody, but not everyone can agree on everything.

bicilotti, I don't think you're a prick, but I think you come across as a bit loud-mouthed, considering that you've been here like half a year and barely posted outside your own game-thread. In the end, this is CJ's forum and it doesn't look pretty when a random newcomer is telling him what to do with it.

I can help you for free, no problem.
But if you turn out to make millions of dollars, I expect a nice postcard or something.

I write a lot, I believe. It's been a lot of academic stuff lately, theses and essays and stuff, but when I have more time I usually write on a novel or some short story. Never published any fiction though.

Evolution only occurs if individuals less fit for survival are somehow less likely to reproduce, as with most animals. However, humans typically get children no matter how physically or mentally weak they are (since we have a "civilization" that cares for the weak. On the contrary, people who are really stupid tend to get more children than others.

So therefore, no, humans don't get smarter and smarter genetically. We are practically standing still evolutionary, and all changes are due to external circumstances that start to take effect after we're born.

And Iraq didn't have weapons of mass destructions, they had weapons of mass alienation!

I enjoyed that correspondence highly. Never seen such a flagrant display of arrogance before.
I mean, he even set the time for their potential appointment! And he gave him 10 minutes! That's ace.

Yes, Loominous, that's exactly what I meant with his pecs. Very nice edit.

My only gripe now is his head, which I think is too stretched, or too long, sort of. Maybe there's no point in arguing about how it's held; it's after all a statue and doesn't need to be very natural (although a real archer would probably hunch a bit for his eyes to come in level with the arrow, or at least tip his head slightly towards the string, not stretch away from it).

Progz, not that I mind, but why was your latest picture named "Andail"?
Is it the heroic posture?

Edit:
Also, about your archer: I think he's excellent, except that his right pec (or our left) should be "lifted" a bit by the raising of his arm. Right now it hangs too heavily, a bit like a female breast. The muscle in there should be attached to above the armpit. Just a minor thing though.

Deviantart is arguably the worst community when it comes to teenage emo/manga doodles with no skills but a gazillion comments - just because they themselves have given out a gazillion comments and such sites are all about returning favours.
If an artwork on Deviantart has twohundred comments which all say "wow OMFg that's phantastic1" that means absolutely nothing, which in the end makes the commenting service useless in an artistic point of view.
To offer c&c that is constructive but in any way sincere (or god forbid, harsh) is totally out of the question.

Elfwood used to have some sort of quality control (although rather rudimentary - there's sooo much crap on that site), but was also all about writing comments till your fingers bleed in hope that people would return the comments. Generally the level of quality isn't good nowadays.

Gfxartist is fairly good because people can rate pictures, and the even the most obstinate fan-boys can't push their best friends' pictures above pictures that are actually good. Also, how high score you can give depends on how much "credit" you have on the site (membership history, size of gallery, etc).
There's still alot of crap here, but you can at least filter it thanks to the ratings.

Epilogue is good because of the quality control, and you'll mostly find "good" art here. It's also less of a fan-community, and the commenting isn't as central as on other sites.

CGsociety is perhaps my favourite site, mostly because the amount of high-quality art, but also because of the competitions with "mile-stone" WiP threads and other pedagogical features. Also, I like how threads are created automatically when a picture is added (after having undergone quality control) and that these threads can't be bumped; instead they're in the order they were started in.

Of course there are so many other communities out there, but these are the ones I've got personal experience with or uploaded art to.

I remember the bits in Fight Club where they show a penis for a tenth of a second.
I saw it with a friend of mine and my father when it was first released on DVD, quite unknowingly about this "special" feature. In the final scene, we could detect that odd frame but not make out any details, so, curious as to what it was, my father tracked back and paused. So there it was, a huge full front close up. Luckily, my father isn't easily embarassed, and we could laugh it off.

Hm...sorry to sidetrack! I'm going to see the Simpson movie some day next week.

I think France is a good idea. Preferably in the south :)

I understand how doing stuff in time is a good thing, but AGS is also more than mittens. Let's relax for a bit and we'll start organising this when it's at least 2008.
#2313
Why are we filling spots for Mittens 2008 already?

I think if the list gets much larger than about 25 we may have to actually start turning people away.

Hold your horses, young shaver, how about we start turning people away in, like, May or something? When people who have signed up now have at least a modicum of insight whether they can actually attend or not. Otherwise dozens and dozens of people will sign up just in case.

Aww, hate to have missed this one as well. I have to stop missing mittens...:(

Great photos so far, I really miss you guys!

Oh, and I think I was the first to point out that AGA looks like Ray Liotta.

The problem with the scriptures is that they don't get perfected, or at least they haven't been for very long; they're not even meant to be updated.

Science is to a certain percentage all about assuming things, but at least it keeps presenting better models.
Whenever a scientist presents a new model for how the universe is built, only very few hardheaded reactionaries actually cry "sacrilege!" whereas the scientist collective as a whole see it as an improvement, something fruitful.
On the other hand, you could never walk up to a group of priests and say "look here, I took your bible and changed a couple of chapters I didn't like. This new version is much better!"
Although, of course, this has been done in the past (the big councils in e.g. Nicaea 325)

I agree with Wellington that personal evidence should be respected and not equaled with guesswork, but the issue - I think - is that there is seldom a congregation who's taken certain aspects of its core religion and improved them. Instead they keep re-interpreting the scriptures ad absurdum, until they find them fitting, in a way that completely puts off the uninitiated.
I'd like to see a sincere - and successful - attempt at establishing a new religion which isn't just based on creating a lucrative sect for rich lunatics (a la scientology), but based on a traditional religion, only enhanced. Christianity II, with selected chapters of the bible, and plenty of extra material.

That ceiling fan should be seen more from beneath, Progzy. Apart from that, it's an excellent rendition.
The lighting also helps creating what was lacking in that picture before, namely round/organic shapes.
Including just a few shapes or angles that aren't perfectly straight or square helps making the atmosphere more lively. Especially when all the furniture has the same colour, you'll run the risk of making it appeared to be built up of boxes.

I would go even further with lighting and introduce a second lightsource from the kitchen. This light could be more sterile white, while the living room light could be of a more warm yellowish hue, which I think could make a nice effect.

Regardless of forum board, I don't really see how you can expect people not to give c&c.
What are we gonna do with this thread? Just reply with "Ok we have now seen your pictures"?

Outrage! I never purposefully removed my games!
I just purposefully didn't upload them again after my account was cancelled, years ago...

Except for the second game, that one I purposefully took offline.

Looks good. I might contribute with an article or two.

Also, I never read those reflections on the ATC before, quite inspiring.
After all the hardships people underwent in their ATC teams, it still seems a lot of good material was produced. Some of our favourite titles were the results of this activity. And since most people who participated probably weren't just about to release a game of their own anyway, it's not like the lack of completed games was a huge disaster, because, well, people don't release games very often anyway...
Just drifting away in thoughts.
