I guess this can be a good therapeutic instrument for pathologically introverted people, who'd never meet up with some friends, chat a bit or play some pool in real life.

what is it?

Esper, sadly I can't share your optimism. You can't expect that a movie which features the "downside"- the terrible consequences - of violence will "teach" children not to be violent, and in this respect I highly doubt that Battle Royal can act as an example, something to learn from.

If anything, any sort of violence shown on TV or wherever will create a sort of tolerance, and render its viewers more blunt about their perception of violence. A young kid will have a limited ability to appreciate whether one sort of violence is labelled "wrong" and another isn't; at the end of the day the violence has just made him more used to all the blood, more insecure, more familiar with scenes of death and suffering etc.
I believe it's primarily the treshold of fear and angst that causes violent acts (like school shootings etc) and not the failure to understand their consequences.

So, I must disagree with how you conclude that second paragraph...it's not all about glorifying versus demonising; it's more a matter of the sheer quantity we expose ourselves to.

I don't think men are generally being called chauvinist pigs for being turned on by female sexiness, so stop stigmatizing yourself.
In any normal intimate situation, being turned on is equally important for both parts. I think you might refer to men who can't handle their arousal in a decent mature manner, or who are still stuck in some sort of patriarchal world order and can't treat their women respectfully.

Edit: Yep, Erenan said it.

Well, I don't wanna keep beating this dead horse, but your first post in this thread said something like "Jesus, you're all dicks because you just want to be contrary" which is in itself not much more than a controversial one-liner, one that people will want to disagree with.

If you want to moderate (intervene in order to resolve a situation that you're not personally involved in = moderate), at least employ some tact and set a good example.

Avoid MS Paint if you're into art, or efficiency.

I've seen some pretty good pixel art that's been done in MSPaint.

The function to place individual pixels on a screen isn't quite enough to make a good, efficient painting program these days...

Well I say that's a perfectly functional background. It's cute and small and low-res and full of atmosphere :)

I think you're doing a good job. You're being serious, and you really try.

I don't think the comics are funny yet, and this is basically because you haven't had time to refine them enough, or to grow enough personally.
Most very young people tend to create comedy more based on what they expect people to find funny, rather than things they sincerely find funny themselves.

This is extra blatant in your latest strip, which is about agreeing to shop with someone in exchange for sex, which is a situation I highly doubt you know anything about personally.

You're 14, write about your daily life, make comedy about kid-stuff, and don't pretend so much.

My final take on this is that Medical Waste did not cause very much controversy compared to the efforts spent on telling him off.
I'm not saying that he made a good counter argument, or that his post was all that necessaryt, but the overall level of hostility really skyrocketed after certain other peoples' "intervention".
#2650
Eric and Pesty, cut Medical Waste some slack here.

As long as people don't resort to namecalling, apparent flaming or insulting for insulting's sake, they're perfectly free to question a statement such as "band X consists of musical geniouses!" without backing it up with loads of music theory.

People will have to tolerate some disagreement in a public forum like this, it's not kindergarten.

And if the goal here is to prevent polemics, I don't think you're doing a good job, Pesty, looking back at the post-progression here.

You have a good sense for details, but the room is simply too spacious right now. The scene needs more tightly crammed objects, more overlapping lines and surfaces, less "giant box with tiny objects thrown in"-feeling.
It's a shame if the wonderful details would get lost in the huge space.

One thing I do know is that I still, to this day, haven't seen that film

You should see it, it's a fun film
#2653
I actually saw this movie once, and I quite enjoyed it. The sequel on the other hand was the absolutely worst movie experience I ever had. It sort of dragged down the whole concept of Battle Royal for me.

Good start, but I think you should go ahead and "finish" it before posting here. Trace the pencil sketch to get a proper outline, then colour it.
When you've given it some work, get back here and publish it again.

Wellington, that was quite an accomplishment. A brilliant example of how a good verse meter can improve the quality of something otherwise quite corny. Of course, it took me two tries to read out the rather unusual (but nonetheless effective) rythm properly.

Then again, the whole practice of writing comical "poetry" about pop-cultural stuff like Starwars or LOTR etc strikes me as rather geeky, truthfully...

That was funny, AGA, but you drooled so much it took attention from the joke.

I think I shall watch the two movies first to compare, before casting any votes...Eric's brother...or LGM? Eric's brother...or....LGM. Who shall earn my invaluable sympathies?

Or I shall just have a pretzel instead.

Ahem, CJ, I don't see "moderator" anywhere in your title.

Please leave the moderating to the moderators!

If it turns out that Linus is actually member of GAC, I'm gonna have him thrown out of DNA* immediately.

http://www.pbs.org/teachersource/learning.now/2007/01/teacher_faces_40year_prison_se.html

40 years in prison for working with a computer that suddenly showed pornographic pop-ups in a class room :)

I mean, god damn, 40 years! It's hilarious. Now, I can't possibly believe that she will actually   be sentenced to that, but the mind boggles...
