I say paint his face. Only, I'd make sure there's at least one hidden penis in the picture.

If you would provide me with such a painting, I'd happily send it over to him.
In fact, this could be an activity. The one who can produce the best portrait of him will have the painting sent by me as a sincere contribution.

An email I got a few days ago. First read that it's non-comissioned work, then check the link...tempting isn't it?

How's it going there?  Thought I'd send over an email to you since I saw your nice artwork on epilogue.net.   Was wondering if you'd like to use me as a reference and use my face in a future painting?  If you were able to and could make the face in the illustration look like me then I'm also working on my 3rd book that should be published all in good time …  If this piece that you'd do of me comes out good , I'd like to publish it in the book.

Let me know if you want to take on the task.. Its non-commission but you'd get your work and name in my book that will be sold across America.

Very interesting. I can see them in some modern art exhibition, scaled up on huge light-boxes,  :)

I don't mind Yahtzee winning prizes, he prolly deserves it considering the absurd amount of time he must spend on all those games.
However, I'm slightly puzzled by the fact that certain people still persist in running his arrends on these boards, despite the fact that he left them for a reason.
I mean, it's not like he doesn't know they exist.

In my opinion, this is exactly what the penis award is meant for. Just clinically selecting the "worst" game wouldn't serve any purpose. This is an award with a twist; it's up to the voters to decide who deserve it.

And whether you like it or not; going commercial with a game is to open a can of worms. A free game is a gift to your peers, but a game with a price tag is not a gift anymore, it's a part of a deal, and people will question that deal, evaluate it, tear it apart to see what's in it.

Looks good, Dave.
Just wanted to express my worries regarding the trailer...which I unfortunately don't like very much :( Don't get me wrong, the game looks good judging from everything I've seen or read so far, but the trailer simply doesn't work, it has no cinematic effect, no drama...it could be so much better.
Take a look at how Goldmund made the trailer movie for Donna, which kept an entire community on needles and pins for years and years. I totally recommend that you give it another shot, maybe with the help of someone who's more into movie editing.
Just my two cents.

I think you have a good sense when it comes to the basics of pixel-art; you have a clear, clean style and you construct good surfaces with nice colours.
However:
* The perspective has gone haywire. This might well be the least correct background I've ever seen perspective-wise. There are a ton of tutorials when it comes to basic one-viewpoint perspective systems. It's not hard to carry out.
* Composition-wise you've assigned a good portion of the background to the floor, which is sensible when it comes to game backgrounds. On the other hand, the floor space seems a tad empty, don't you think? You might consider filling it with objects that are normally found in an office.

I think it's danish or something...Norweigan??

Don't they teach linguistics in the UK? The norse languages don't use the cyrillic alphabet! You've even met me iril!! Did I ever say things like " влизам автоматично с" to you? I don't think so!!

I was bored when I did this, so I got a bit carried away. So much has been changed that it's no longer a useful paintover, I guess.

Numerous changes.

I'm not saying that this is the optimal way to improve your image, I'm just trying to illustrate what I meant by making shadows as a means of conveying a 3-dimensional shape. And to get rid of the black as a careless way of applying shades.
#2712
Sorry, but I have to say that the colour scheme isn't really working. There are tones of greyish/black which looks like some sort of burn tool, which is a no-no; make your shadows by determining the ambient colours and try to mix them into something more dynamic, organic. A good first step; get rid of the black.
Also, it seems like your shades have been applied a bit sporadically, instead of working out a 3-dimensional shape.

The extremely...limited...art-style would work well with a very intellectual kind of humour, or possibly the surreal variety a la Acthung Franz. Unfortunately, your comic doesn't present either of those, and could benefit from being just a tad more worked on, graphically speaking.

This can not qualify as critics lounge material, so please don't move it there...unless you write an entire manuscript and publish it, of course.
This is a question that, simply put, doesn't require a community to answer. As a few people have suggested, you need to ask yourself if it's worth doing or not, and this doesn't go for just underground productions, this goes for everything out there which needs inspiration and a creative, artistic mind; you need to do it for your own sake, and nobody else's. If people choose to play it/buy it, that's a bonus.

You can change your nick in your account settings. It will change the name visible to the forum, while not really changing the username.

Everyone has 2 1/2 legs, owns a hyena, and is completely turquoise.
Bwahaha. This is like, all you need to know about life.

Well rocks can be in "one piece", but then they'd hardly end with a flat top, like the one in the first background; they'd probably be pointy or rounded or something.
Rocks and mountains can look in a hundred different ways, you just need to settle for a type (sedimentary, magmatic etc) and be consistent.

I took a shot at your first forest pic to prove some points. I used highly saturated colours a LOT now, but the good thing is that you can tone down these afterwards.
Everything is smeared out now, cause I was sort of in a hurry, so you obviously need to repaint everything to make it crisp and clean.

The good thing with keeping high saturations is that you can vary the hue to easily attain different effects, for instance night-scenes.

I think the first bg looks nice, although it would benefit from having the foreground trees more saturated and defined. At the moment everything has the same shade of mist around it, which takes away from the sense of depth.
The same goes for the second; keeping a low saturation is always good for a professional look (as the most common beginner's mistake is to paint with too clear and bright colours) but don't be affraid to bring out details (especially those close to the viewer) with some extra highlights in terms of contrast and brightness.
