She's improving nicely! She hunches a bit and her shoulders are too high and tense; try to lower them a bit and she'll turn out more relaxed.

Her breasts are awkward; they look like apples growing out of her keybones, and the stuff on her chest suggesting a cleavage (I guess) is just wrong. Also not that she is extremely thin, with very girl-like proportions. Except for the breasts. And hm...her bottom? Is she wearing a diaper?

Good progression anyhow, keep working!

Critics' Lounge / Re: DOTT style background
Tue 06/06/2006 22:17:22
Please don't try to imitate DOTT-style until you have practised a whole darn lot on an ordinary, realistic style.
Secondly, don't ever say that you have done a background in DOTT-style. If you have indeed succeeded in doing so, people will point that out for you. If not, people will just get annoyed.

As for your background: Well, it simply lacks a decent perspective. It's just whacky in a non-consistent, non-appealing way. Also, it lacks details and interesting objects.

Hehe, I actually nailed the Police Quest-ions.
Also, didn't Marvin Hoffman have a second alias; Leroy Pierson?
I digged Laura Watts, and hoped to get Sonny hooked up with her instead of Sweet Cheeks.

General Discussion / Cancer(?)
Mon 29/05/2006 11:55:25
What is it with the world today and cancer?
Last year, both my cousin's mother (my cousin was aged 12) and my best friend's mother died in cancer. Now my girlfriend's mother is dying from a brain tumor, deteriorating rapidly out of medical reach.
This is partly why I'm leaving Brighton sooner than I first planned - I'll be out on Thursday this week. Hopefully my thesis won't need any further adjustments. Unfortunately, my girlfriend had loads of stuff, papers and exams, which she just had to skip.

Is it the radiation? The mobil networks? All the chemical shit we cram into our food these days? Is it just here?
Three young mothers, needed and beloved.

The Rumpus Room / Re: The music thread
Sat 27/05/2006 16:01:23
Um, the reason we save threads from the past is so we can revisit them and post in them. Which is especially the case with Popular Threads.
Use the search function to find these threads, or follow the links Mr Colossal so kindly offered.

EDIT:
Moved this to popular, in case people still wanna chat about it

We saw the Eurovision in Brighton. The only places where they show such a programme instead of some bottom-division football game are the most gayest of gaypubs. - Namely Bulldog. Don't go to Bulldog unless you're above 35, tattooed, bald and queerer than a whole Freddie Mercury fanclub.

Which is kind of funny; I lost my mobile phone during that night. The day after, I went to the policestation to report it stolen. When the officer asked me where it had happened, I replied: "Down at Bulldog, watching the Eurovision."
His boss, who was standing behind him, commented sardonically: "It takes a lot of courage to say that, son."

Great job, very stylistic. The perspective is indeed stiff and flat, but if you keep drawing the backgrounds consistently they will work very nicely.

The mountains in the background look flat because of their distinct outlining. Remove the outlining and make them blend in more with the sky.

General Discussion / Summing up Britain

My time here is coming to an end, as I today handed in my final 6000 words thesis. If anybody has any questions regarding mythological references in the poetry of Keats, just let me know.

Here's my top/bottom-five lists about Brighton.
top
1. Clubs. Just great and they are plenty. The music is usually ace.
2. Campus. Good teachers, seminars, lectures and tutors.
3. Pubs. You can play pool and darts and destroy your liver any day of the week.
4. Wheather. Not good anymore, but it was warm and nice during the winter/early spring. Now it's SHIT.
5. Clothes, shops. Nice cool shopping areas with lots of junk.

Bottom ten
1. House insulation. Heard of this? This is when you make sure there are no one-inch gaps between the window/door and the wall, to prevent sub-zero stormwinds from entering your home.
2. Carpets. I understand that this is to address the issue of terribly cold floors due to bad insulation. I'm talking these all-floor carpets which cover the floor in every damn room and have collected dust and dirt during the last two centuries.
3. Chav kids. They come out of the woodwork where I live. You see them in gangs, with hoods and sneakers and trainers, smooking, shouting. Everywhere are 17-year-old mothers with their poorly clothed kids and prams full of snacks and candy. Also, did you know that the funniest thing ever you can do is to scream in somebody's ear in order to scare them. This is the main occupation of white trash in Brighton. They just love to scream at you.
4. Limos. Limos are the shit in Brighton. They are ridiculously long, pink and probably very cheap. One thing you can be sure about is that they never contain any celebreties. Just chav kids, and they lean out through every window and whoop.
5. Buses. Campus-buses are rumoured to come by every 6:th minute, but since a) they manage to somehow come in groups, leaving great gaps in between, and anyway what good are three buses in a row? Only one is necessary, b) the drivers just LOVE to stop and chat every single time they spot another driver. I mean, busdrivers can hardly experience so much during a day to warrant a ten-minute conversation every darn stop.
Also, they drive to fast and wobble.

Whoops, almost forgot this one.
Ha ha, Good job Chrille.

Skurwy and Evil, terrific songs! Well done.

I'll let this float around for some more day if people are still (not likely) working on something.
Cheers

General Discussion / Re: Da Vinci Code Redux

I meant fabricated as in compiled from various sources over a time span of three centuries.

I didn't want to turn this into another creation vs. evolution, I just think it's interesting to study the Bible philologically, viewing it as a work of men with an agenda, a plot.

The ordinary church-goer is extremely ignorant when it comes to literary history. I remember when the last Swedish Bible reform took place, and lots of old people complained how this was an abominable deviation from the one true scripture, and that Thou may not alter the words of God, etc. Of course, the "one true Scripture" they referred to was the previous reform, from around 1900. They didn't realise that every bible is a deviation from the previous version, back to its first printed form some time in the early 16:th century; itself a fairly loose compilation of texts which were all more or less fabricated at the first council of Nicaea in 325.

Allright, you now have two days to produce something!

I wonder if we have any real Dylan-fans here or not!

I don't have anything against Dan Brown writing a popcorn thriller. After all, he does help bringing the idea of a church based on fabricated ideas to the masses.
I do have problems with him claiming it to be based on facts, that all the organisations etc really existed, and with him being totally unoriginal about it.

Haven't read or heard about it, but it's a quite blatant fake.

Hold on everyone... This IS art! It may not be the art style you like, but it indeed is art no matter how much you may like/dislike it.

It's not only about liking/disliking it. If art is anything that is put on paper, then sure. Most people would however relate the term with some kind of personal interpretation, some sort of idea, emotion or message conveyed through forms and colours. This person is a living photo-booth.

You're progressing nicely, LGM.
Many of these pics convey much more maturity and confidence than your earlier.

#1. It's technically good but too uninteresting. It would have totally rocked with a part of a human included somehow.
#2. I like this. It's full of motion and feeling; the guitarist wiping his sweat may not be functional portrait-wise, but gives a great sense of action, so to speak. The sense of depth would have been perfect if the drummer had been visible in the back.
#3. This is maybe your best. This shot has near-perfect proportions. The big metallic machine-like back side of the train (with its knife-edge focus) works
great with the soft sunset. The colours are honey. It's close to being a bit sweet (shooting sunsets is risky in this way) but still works.
#4. Not a very good one. You don't make very good use of the space, and there is a black tone on your shirt at the bottom of the picture which looks unprofessional.
#5. This is great, it's another as-it-happens portrait with motion and genuineness to it. However, it may lack some detail in the bottom-left corner (which is now just a dark sweater).
#6. I don't normally fancy this kind of modelling pics. For them to work, the models need to be 100% super-photogenic. And they're still hard to get right.
#7. A bit unoriginal. It's a scene you see in every postcard stand.
#8. Perhaps your most original shot. It works well thanks to the crisp details. It also looks like the Swedish flag which is a plus.
#9. This works suprisingly well, considering what you've tried to pull off. I would have cropped it before the trunk gets too shaded.
If you want to sell it to fashion magazines etc, she might need to work on her manicure.
#10. Good. He has a great model appearance. You should have captured a part of his guitar though. It lacks that kind of little balancing detail which would make it a bit more interesting.
#11. Too boring.
#12. Good, but a bit dark, as you say yourself.
#13 (second post). I like it. It's a functional portrait. As a piece of art, it's a bit stiff and unexciting. Very nice depth.

This belongs in the critics lounge, where there are already dozens and dozens of links to tutorials. Do some searching. There is also a thread for technical questions if you get stuck.
Good luck.

Jesus, Fluke, stop feeling sorry (we've seen post like this before) and chill out, browse.
People get annoyed with everybody who keeps craving attention. Just do what everybody else does and relax.

Bob Dylan's birthday is on May 24:th, so I hereby announce a music competition to honour this great artist.

So pick a song and make your own cover of it. It can be the traditional singer songwriter style or something more experimental, or just a midi-track.

The deadline is may 24:th. You have to host your own files (or at least don't ask me for webspace).
Please include in your post title, year and album of the original song. It would be cool if you made up a band/artist alias for this competition to sign your contributions with.

Good luck!

Critics' Lounge / Re: Vitruvian variety
Mon 15/05/2006 14:56:48
Yeah, the point is to make a Christian symbol out of the DaVinci drawing, to add religious meaning to something scientific. The idea is to make it impossible to surely tell whether it's a crucified man or the Vitruvian man, which is why I had to change plenty of features from the original DaVinci model.

The picture was described very thoroughly by the friend of mine, so I guess he's not homophobic enough to be bothered by male genetalia.

Asterix is one of my absolute favourite comics, so I hope you do a good job with your game. Uderzo is an extra-ordinary artist.
