My uncle also had a ghost living with him. He was the only one who lived in his house and the ghost, which everyone called Casper, would steal my uncles keys and hide time. Typically just move them from room to room, and occationally put them in drawers.

I think this particular ghost haunts me too, from time to time

I'll contribute with this little brush-exercise I whipped up last night:

x2

It's heavily under-detailed, and the proportions and perspective are skewed and weird, but anyhow...

Well, happy birthday to Andail, too! He's turning like a million years old today.

Yep. And I'm experiencing some of the million-year-crisis.

Now I'm forever cursed with the image of Andail making out with furniture.

You're welcome, mate, that one was on me.

And Happy Birthday f00! ;D

Thanks, mate :)

And there's no real point in complaining on DG. He's like a part of the furniture that came with this joint. You can try to taunt him, but you'll end up making out with him. Or something.

Nobody said it's easy to draw the line, but there is a line somewhere, and we have to draw it.

You have a line too, Linus. If somebody would start three threads in a row stating "poobungies" along with eleven exclamation marks, you would find them rather useless as well.
At the moment the tolerance of the general member of this forum is just slightly below yours, it seems. There's nothing wrong with you being extra tolerant, but we're all different.
In the end, CJ sets the standard.

I was a bit defensive because some guy said that good advice here is rare, and a lot other things which were just plain impolite and not true. Why is it so strange to you that I would react on that?

Also, like Squinky said, the watermark was a bit funny and original. No big deal. I also concur that even that pet forum of yours would raise a few eyebrows if they saw an image with a watermark like that.

And
QuoteAndail, go assemble a puzzle.

What kind of comment was that? Some kind of arbitrary insult? Please learn to behave before you post again.

(Oh, and btw, feel like posting "bananas are delicious" in this thread? Think it would be a funny post to counter this one? No. Please don't.)

Rats, I hate it when people disable me from making the only kind of humourous remarks I can accomplish.

The new forum is set up, so we'll continue there.
http://agsproject.proboards76.com/index.cgi

Right now I would like to point out a few facts that go with my initial scheme for this project:
* I will hold the ultimate adimistrating functions, although I will not interfere with the game process itself.
* The members of the design and direction team all have the same authority, and must agree on all decisions made. Ther is no one director.
* Their discussions will be kept public, but other members cannot affect these discussions, apart from elements that have been expressively been made subject for c&c in the designated forum.
* The overall plot and outlines worked out by the d&d team must leave a fair amount of free space, so that the individual production cells may form the more detailed plot elements rather freely. It's a matter of loose outlines rather than exact instructions, in other words.

Bspeers is a member whom I would whole-heartedly encourage to take part in this project, and I'd recommend a function as a leader of a production-cell.

If people think more before posting, there would be more interesting topics per thread started. This would encourage more mature and thoughtful people to partake in the discussions.
If every thread was some random tossed out question without any personal reflections, people would grew tired of the entire forum and move to something else.
It's all a matter of forming this forum into something better.

Linus, you're not a very frequent poster these days, so I take it that you don't care very much for the gen-gen anyhow.

I'm not being too harsh moderator-wise when it comes to gen-gen, but I'd certainly prefer if people stopped starting threads for the only purpose of having more started threads, if they waited until they actually had something interesting to say or share.
I'm not naming anyone, just a general thought.

If they don't say this, they won't have provided very useful c&c.

cgtalk is the biggest computer graphics forum around. Most professionals in any kind of graphics industry (animation, movies, games) are registered there, this includes people that worked on big productions such as commercial movies (ice age, lord of the rings, etc), etc. Feel enlightened.

Oh, and all these people will answer and give c&c on every single image you put up there?

I know those forums pretty well, and I'm in deep awe of some of the artwork published there. It doesn't mean that a single art contributer will recieve undevided attention to a much greater extent and quality than you can get here.
I could give you some links to threads I've seen there with very questionable c&c, or complete lack thereof.

If you people don't like this board, just stay out of it. Quit refering to other boards as soon as you don't agree on certain pieces of advice given here.

lots of interesting attitudes around here, i was just trying to blend in.
Care to elaborate?
If you read my previous post, is there anything you wish to argue?
Was it just the fact that people complained on the watermark that made you say that everybody here is just trying to sound clever, and that good advice here is rare, and you should in fact avoid our forum alltogether?
Just curious - I asked if you were serious or not but you didn't answer that.
#3214
Yeah, I remember that. A good time indeed.
#3215
Txarly, I agree that the watermark got too much attention. We're just not used to it. Also, most forums probably put a little copyright line or something, I doubt that they put a watermark in the middle of every contributed image.

Nevertheless; if you can look away from that piece of criticism, there is still much c&c that makes great sense. All of the comments given in this thread have been pertinent and relevant.

Mordalles didn't just vent an opinion, he insulted us and the entire forum.

Feel free to submit your picture to the forum Mordalles mentioned. If you get this much attention, which I doubt, they will probably say the same:
* fix lighting
* add details
* try to fix the sterile and tidy feeling by adding handmade textures, "dirt" and other artifacts.
* get rid of the watermark

If they don't say this, they won't have provided very useful c&c.

Hello. Hang around and do some music for our massive collaborative game creation project.

oh, the skewed gradient is just a mistake, I didn't see it until now (keeps a pretty dark monitor). It's supposed to be a straight vertical gradient, with no purple tones.

You're right about the shadows also. I didn't want to make too many drastic changes to the background at once, especially since I suspected that he wanted to go for a cell-shading.
So, well, there's much to with the shadows.

dont listen to the people here, txarly. theyre just trying to sound clever. its really great. i wish i could do something like that in 3d.

if you really want some good advice on how to improve ure backgrounds, i would advise going to places like www.cgtalk.com. seriously, there the people's crits actually make sense. and theyre much nicer. good advice around here is very rare.  ;)

Well that's an interesting attitude. I hope you're not serious
