Thanks for the feedback!  I'm really excited about this game, and my main concern was that the premise might be a little too "niche," but I'm glad to see there's interest.

That niche seems really promising, I'd say. A nice change from anything paranormal-investigative-related ;)

Awesome!
Have you got a team of some sort? Those screenies look great.

No borders crossed, Miguel, but also, it's not a crime to ask. I think many people would be interested in knowing how many copies these games actually sell.

Thanks not true. Freeware only means that you do not charge for it. You still maintain all rights on the game and its parts (story, graphics, music). There was a PR thing where I obtained "The Shiva" for free. Does this mean that I can distribute it now whenever I want? No!
Only if you release your game into public domain you lose all rights connected with it.

I don't think the fact that you were given Shiva for free automatically makes it freeware.

But I agree with you about the Public domain; it's basically the only label that gives anyone the right to distribute or copy the work freely.
"Freeware" as a term doesn't mean very much, it's all in the license. Without a license, normal copyright laws are in effect, meaning you can't just copy something as you like.
Maybe we should be more careful about writing software licenses for our games.

I remember when like hundreds of AGS games appeared on some sort of compilation CD that some site was selling. I think that's a step too far, but just having your game listed on various websites is probably something you'd expect when releasing it for free.
All major sites have ads; that's just how they survive.

The Rumpus Room / MOVED: Diet weight loss

A rather general topic of conversation, and not nearly random/silly enough for Rumpus.

This topic has been moved to General Discussion.

*waves* hullo!

6ft and ~55kg - anyone got any weight gain diets?
+1.
I'm virtually the same, 5'11 at 60kg (roughly 135 pounds). I go to the gym regularly and lift heavy weights, and I eat all the time. I use gainers occasionally, and also take vitamin supplements, but I don't gain a pound. I'm in pretty good shape, but waaay too lean.

Yeah... with the most striking inaccuracy being the sounds, I would say.
I can imagine that watching the entire opening of Star Wars 3 in complete silence would be a bit confusing for a mainstream cinema audience.

I think what you've demoed here is off to a great start but I think it needs some tweaking.  I agree with Andail (and others) about the easing... that's essential (though I would argue that, given the physics of space flight, it's not really necessary it's just ... traditional) :)

àâ,¬ bit OT, but what part of easing is not necessary in space physics? Inertia is very real in space...

Question: I nominated, then went back to nominate an additional game. Should I have re-entered all of my first nominations, or were they saved when I submitted the first time?

Games I would have voted for, had they been in the database:

Kitten Catastrophy
The Samaritan Paradox (demo)
Skrumring (demo)

Programmers: add these for next year!

Thanks, but I never released my demo in the database, and I don't really think I will :/
You can - hopefully - vote for the full game next year :)

Looks pretty nice, although the movements of the ship could use some ease-in/ease-out to make it look more like, well, a spacehip in space. You know, inertia and all that.

Also, is it because you're thinking future touch-screen release that you aren't using keyboard commands? The intuitive controlling would be arrow keys (or asdw) to move the ship, while the mouse would be free for aiming.

All in all, graphics and sound effects are really cute.

Wow!  That was FAST!

Okay, here's one that may take more time:

You remove and throw away the outside and cook the inside.  Then you eat the outside and throw away the inside.

What is it?

Spoiler

Corn on the cob? You throw away the leaves and cook the rest - then you eat the corn and throw away the core...

Oh, hehe, I totally forgot about this.
Apparently my riddle sucked since nobody solved it. But yeah, it's a bit silly, really.
Spoiler

The riddle is based on a double entendre - when I say "serves three", I don't mean it serves three people, but it literally serves the number three (as in serving the ball in a sport). So, what begins with 3, goes on forever and is also a dish?

General Discussion / Re: What's a good tablet?

Oh, it's clicking even if you're not pressing down firmly? You should be able to "hover" with the pen, touching the tablet gently, without drawing. I hope you can find a fix for this, I'll help searching when I get home later.

Armageddon, both of your issues are actually functions that most people prefer with pen tablets. I would recommend that you get used to it and learn to appreciate it, instead of changing it. To me it sounds awkward to push a button every time you want to draw. Consider that drawing may go on for hours on end, with innumerable tiny, tiny strokes, and having to click something every time just seems time consuming.

The absolute positioning that a tablet offers is in my opinion preferable to the relative orientation a mouse uses. If you have a drawing in front of you, you want to be able to draw precisely and directly - you don't want to drag/scroll around with the cursor to find the spot. Trust me on this one!
