General Discussion / Re: LET'S CROAK TOADS!!!

I'm sorry, but even though it had some animation slip ups (mostly lip synch, and even then it's far better than other cartoons) in the early episodes, it's still the best cartoon ever and with the best spin off collection and movies. No lessons about cleaning garbage or bs like that, just pure violence, action, darkness and humor. I think the ones with the Joker are still the best ones, but there are so many great characters and details and gems of episodes that are still paramount. BTAS:

Is that supposed to be the Moon behind the letters?
Is the square part of the logo?

The "studio" part doesn't really seem to belong with SinSin part, I'd maybe go with putting it closer together. If you're gonna use type and words as a logo then try to use them as the actual logo, if you're going for an image, like a Moon, you have to combine stuff but in many cases it's easier to separate them (make the Moon a logo and then just write below it "SinSin studio").
You are using too much elements here: fonts of different color, moon behind the letters, circle and a square, Sin/sin is already a logo on it's own within a logo. Maybe just SIN then the line thing then the invereted SIN and in smaller letter STUDIO just below it.
Or, of the top of my head here, maybe something like this:

p.s. when you're making a logo, make it either in vectors or bigger in size (I'm not saying posting a bigger version here, just in the original file) because it easier to make it smaller, but making it bigger is a problem.

Neko looks fine but Stobbart looks just plain lousy.  What happened to his chin, for one thing?  It's like they're trying to merge almond-shaped anime character styles with Broken Sword characters and it isn't very pleasing.  Also, it makes him look way too young, especially for his voice.  I'm not sure why they can call this a 2d game when it uses 3d rendered characters that look rather lazily produced.  Just because it's a fixed angle doesn't suddenly make it a 'traditional 2d game'.
Thing is, they use 3d because I guess it's easier in the long run (you can change camera views on different scenes and still have a sprite for every occasion plus for the cutscenes. But yes, it is annoying how they still call it 2d, although the characters lost their 2d sprite charm. Such characters always seem slightly stiff to me (hand drawn sprites always look a bit more flexible and alive), and when they show the disney-like storyboards, where George's face has all the cool hand drawn expressions, the difference gets even more noticeable.
Even so, I do like the renderer they're using, might be one of the best looks for a cell shading rendering I've seen in a while.

p.s. *cough*It's Nico, not Neko*cough*

WHAM ATTACKERS....ASSEMBLE!
*80s-early 90s rock guitar theme music*
*bunch of kids running, finding a mcguffin that gives them a secret identity, superpowers and a giant robot/giant monster beacon, all explained with a narration from the mysterious master/servant*
*briefly bad guys show up who wish to destroy Earth/Universe or rule Earth/Universe*
*near the end a comic relief in a form made out of multiple creatures appears and says his/her catchphrase*

There wasn't a publisher who'd fund this?

Kickstarter is a double edge sword kind of, you'll probably get more money when you can offer goodies for donations, but also if you don't succeed, then good luck finding somebody who'll publish it. Plus of those 400k, I'm guessing a 100k goes to Kickstarter and goodies production.

So I guess 2.5 is the optimal work process for adventure games. The style is okay I guess, I like it more than the Runaway style.

But is there a code to shrink it or shall i do it myself?
I'm sorry but whether you are a troll (who really has too much time to commit to trolling by the number of your posts) or you just can't read or maybe don't know how to google "resize image in photoshop" (btw resizing takes 5 mouse clicks to do and can be done in under 30 seconds), it's times like these I wish there's an IQ requirement for the internet.

I have one as well. If somebody wants it, PM me, not for resale use.

Game looks cool so far. Keep it up.
Woohoo, Croatia! Hey, if they can film Game of thrones here, why not an adventure game setting.

And now for the rest of my post, this isn't any critique or anything, just a small comment:
One thing though: I really have nothing against the name, but in Croatia and in neighbouring countries, I really can't think of a name of a city that's actually called "X City", there are a few "Xcity", like "Novigrad" or "Biograd" (as you can see "grad" means city, so that can help you if you're looking on Google maps or something) or there's Beograd in Serbia. And even when "grad" is used, it's not actually translated when named, so maybe something like "Slavokgrad" would actually be used and appropriate.
Again, I'm just saying this for information purposes only, I really don't mind you calling it "Slavok city".

If you need some slang words or some specific custom or terminology or location info, feel free to PM me.

Yeah, as Eric said, the right one has a better "leather" color, the other seems a bit washed out.

I like the new hat, thing is, if you have goggles, it means there's going to be wind but you can't wear a regular military officer's hat because that same wind would blow it away, thus I agree the leather cap is a better choice. Though I think you should check, if you haven't, about the headphones going on the outside, since he probably won't hear anything through the cap.

In the new cap 3/4 view, his forehead gets weirdly obscured by the cap, it seems like it goes over his brow, but in the front view (and I think the correct) it's clearly visible that the cap doesn't cover the forehead that much.
But in the front view, the hand that goes into the pocket seems like it's tilted forwards (like his shoulder is going closer to the camera), I think it's because you moved the edge of the yellow vest too much to the left. Shoulder should seem to go backwards.

I did a little redraw (on the sprites with the new cap), not sure if everything is better, but still it might help out.
- I moved the goggles a bit ot the left (the left glass is now even smaller so the center line matches the middle point between the brows and the nose)
- changed the nose shadow in the 3/4 view
- both arms in the front view - I moved the left one a bit away from the body, so the right one seems like it's pushed in the pocket somehow, also I think the jacket looks more puffier now (like there's padding inside, because they usually were padded for the low temperatures they'd encounter in the air)
- the left arm in the 3/4 view (moved it a bit back so it doesn't seem like he has a muscle sticking out on the side)
- shortened the cap and added strings on the cap so they can be tied/buckled below the chin (I forgot to add them on the front view)

Hey, when you guys were talking about Assassins Creed 3, you had the music playing from Psychonauts, right? From that creepy guy's brain who believed everything was a conspiracy with all the agents wandering about stopping you.

Enjoyable podcast.

Well he says they work in teams of about 15 people, they have the concepts predetermined (Schafer says that team leaders get people on the basis of what they're doing) and they work in an engine that everybody is familiar in (pipeline wise as well).
So it's not exactly MAGS but with half the time. It's a rather organized creativity.

General Discussion / Re: The scariest monster
Wed 08/08/2012 15:45:25
Del Torro creates monsters that should be scary, but I always find them beautiful, from the imagination aspect of things.

From what I've read of Lovecraft again it's more of imagination than horror, though the monster from the stories Dunwich Horror and stories like Rats in the walls are what I visually find scary, when there's an overwhelming number of creatures, it usually goes to dread of something around you that you might not see but you can hear for example. Again, stuff like the Tooth faeries from Hellboy 2.

Hard to find the actual line where "scary" and "disgusting" dwell. Too many horrors go for shock scares and just overload of gore, instead of there actually be horror.

first of all thanks for the previous replies about video software.

Another question, which perhaps one can reply...

Is anyone experienced with kindle and the format(s) it's using? Anyone knows a lot (or enough) about EPUB or AZW or KF8 or MOBI?

If so let me know and we can take this privately (this is for a commercial project, so I can't say anything else in public, sorry)...
Well azw is amazon cloud format, so that would be it, mobi and epub do quite well as far as I've seen, thing is you'd want something that transfers well to other formats, but Kindle basically reads everything, just check the meta data type stuff like menus and page numbers etc. stay well ordered. As long as you have a pdf and maybe one other format, people can transfer it I think.
Cradle is my software for organizing and uploading books to Kindle, it can also transfer between almost all formats, try some things and you'll see the differences between

And that's about all I can say about that.

 The hair band thing doesn't help with the forehead looking long (in the sprite I mean). You're drawing simplified human beings, almost caricatures, so when you do that, features get omitted that change the perception of a face.

onT: still think there might be some room fr wing decor.
