AGS Games in Production / Re: Patchwork

Whatcha ya mean "non-retro"? *pulls out a shotgun* We don't take kindly to such art mumbo jumbo around these parts.

Looks great, as your graphs always do. Just make sure the animations are fluid as well.

Are the hints not helpful enough? Or are you trying to do without?
Actually I tried the help button before turning of the game for today, but it just said I need to find the book, which is kind of the point of the game, so I don't really see it as a hint.
I'll try again tomorrow.

EDIT: Finished. Some things were really hard to find without any logic of the placement in the world, but it still was a fun game, great atmosphere and the lack of dead ends really helped, deaths were actually interesting.

Good thing this game is not timed, I really have no idea what to do wandering for an hour.
Still, it looks good.

Well that's just plainly not true. All those explorers have basically the same user interface with just a tad different interfaces for more advanced functions.

I'm loving the ending 4 minutes. Very engrossing.
Indeed, making suggestions and questions is mentioned like ten times in the episode and then there's the ending produced by a comment from the first episode.  There is a warning before it so I guess it's ok.

But, yeah, interesting, just the right timing as well, I wanted to listen to something before going to sleep.

A lot of us actually PREFER IE to the alternatives.

Doubtful and there is no logical reason behind it.

A version of Firefox from years ago is still better then the newest internet explorer.
As soon as you try to dabble in css and html code, you quickly come to see just how crappy IE is.

You should probably decide on the color palette and the actual look and style of the game (backgrounds, characters etc.), then it'll be eaiser to style the GUI.

QuoteI mean just as a simple example Ctrl+Z, which is Undo in every Windows program I know, in PM it's not.

I love the interface for Pro Motion, it's slick and to the point.  And apparently you didn't know (so I'm educating you) that you can remap every control to a key of your choice via the preferences.
Yeah, somebody mentioned it before, I tried an older version, apparently I checked the manuals and they changed it.
The key shortcut was just an example, I just couldn't get used to it for some reason, that's the major reason I hated Blender for a long time as well.

What does "game of my calibre" mean?
Wizard of Oz is really a wiiiiiiiide area of media, stories and atmospheres, so you'll either have to provide some other examples or give a bit more detail.

But to me the icons at least don't look like they are from a WoO universe, not that they don't belong there, but if I just looked at them I wouldn't say "that's a Wizard of Oz game".

I don't by any means mean to discourage you or anybody else from Kickstarter, but just an interesting article full of useful statistics started circling (there are further links within):

Why does everything nowadays only work with a facebook profile? I'm not at that crappy thing but I have and use email ;)
I find it quite the opposite - it makes it easy to leave a comment or something at certain sites, instead of going to check the mail, I just log in automatically. Just for that, it's kind of not useless.

How To Draw Comics The Marvel Way by John Buscema and some guy who's not an artist
ISBN-10: 0671530771
http://www.amazon.com/How-Draw-Comics-The-Marvel/dp/0671530771
+1 on this book. People starting out with drawing could really use this, it covers pretty much all the basic concepts (though not going into detail) from shading, perspective, anatomy, to how to set up a comic page and inking. Btw the other "some guy who isn't an artist" actually is a writer and is ok as an artist, by the name of Stan Lee.
I picked this book some years ago because it was the cheapest when I was looking through books at a comic book store in the city (I think the only one in my city that's actually specialized for comics).

A while ago somebody posted a website where you could choose a color and the site would show you some colors that combined with it.
Do you know which site I'm talking about?
Thank you.
I don't know what it is, but recently I found this page COLORlovers they have some interesting stuff under the Tools section as well.

If anyone web wise with html knowledge is able to help me get a "contact form" working (ie a text box and submit button) please get in touch! I haven't been able to get it to work - can't quite get my head around it. Thanks!
Did you try something like this?
http://www.freecontactform.com/html_form.php
Just put the first part into your html page, modify the stuff you need, mainly the width and other design choices.
The other part you just need to save as a php page, also basically copy paste and of course change the mail address (it's noted where you change it in the code).
I mainly use wordpress forms, but I can try this out on my server if you want. This is probably a good solution, though if you start getting spam a captcha should be put in as well, but cross that bridge if you get there.
EDIT: I've checked it, it works ok, just remember to change the mail address at the beginning of the php part plus this is a very strict form (first and last name have to be without numbers and have to start with a capital letter)

There was Broken Sword 2.5 a while back, the presentation was gorgeous but it was totally ruined by lack of basic research ( they had a subway in York I seem to remember). Good luck with this, but be sure to fact check if you use real locations.
Indeed. It was pretty good and some good moments were there, but it lack something, especially at the end. Plus it's filled with 3d animation that just kind of breaks the immersion a tad.
You can still play it http://www.brokensword25.com/

Just lower the volume of music when you talk next, or maybe no music at all, at the Metal dead part I was really having trouble understanding what was being said. Otherwise, interesting stuff.

I agree with GraphicsGale (although I have some issues with getting transparency), I tried Pro Motion and while it has a lot of good tools for pixel art, the interface is clunky and really unusual. I mean just as a simple example Ctrl+Z, which is Undo in every Windows program I know, in PM it's not.

Also ASE Sprite is pretty good, doesn't have a big range of tools and the layers/frames view could be in a separate window instead of having to switch, but otherwise it's pretty light and easy to get used to.

This getting better with each day, I really like the new sprite and the new style of backgrounds.
Also, about the darkness of the scene, you don't have to actually make the colors dark in order to show that it's night time, sure keep them darkish, but you can always use blue hues or similar to just indicate night without the scene actually being black. For example these are both scenes at night but the colors are not actually black or very dark EXAMPLE 1 EXAMPLE 2

A bit of nitpicking - I know that gas masks are cool, but also that you can't really wear a gas mask all the time, you have to change filters and a lot of them for a full time protection. Even then, there is still no protection from gamma radiation, which would sort of be the problem after while. In fact, it would be an interesting and justified gameplay mechanic (you can even set the difficulty easily) by making a timer until your filter runs out but also hide some filters around backgrounds so people can find more if they search through garbage piles etc. People, including myself, hate timed gameplay, but this would be justified and you don't have to make it difficult or to change difficulty by giving more or less time to finish the game.

Putting all that aside, the thing that actually bothers me is that the character walks around with a mask and then comes to guard NPC, who doesn't wear a mask... On that note, the roof looks a bit weird and empty, maybe make some kind of ventilation apparatus/system for filtering air, with like spinning blades (even maybe animate it, or make it a puzzle so the guard lets you through if you find a part that he needs to fix the ventilation or something).

I don't think I've ever heard of Grim Fandango I'll have to check it out.
What!? ...wait, just a sec...WHAT!?
We don't take kindly to people who don't know the adventure game works of Tim Schafer around these parts.

Just kidding, also check out Broken sword 1 and if you like that one play BS2 as well.
