I guess you can't have it all in one game. It'd be awesome to play a game Ryan descibes... But I don't think it's gonna happen any time soon. Sometimes it's all down to our expectations. If you get all hyped up for something it might then let you down too easily...

One more thing- while other Tellatale games have terrible graphics imo, The Walking Dead and its sketchy/pencil drawn textures rock! I think the game looks absolutely fantastic!:)
Wasn't Dead Island sort of the described all-in-one game, in concept at least? Salvaging weapons, fighting people as well as zombies etc. On a similar note, the AGS Steam group might schedule a L4D2 game more often.

And yes, TT really made the graphic style work in this game, but from 3d model point of view I think it's the same modelling style and level of detail they have in all their other games.

2nd episode should be coming next week if the promised release schedule is kept. They do keep this information kind of hard to actually find, probably to not seem too tardy if the release is late.

Your outlines are not very consistent and you don't really need some of them, like on the right side of their faces.

And, as cat mentioned, they seem a bit noisy although in itself that would be fine, but your shading is also off - for example there seems to be a shadow on character's foreheads, which doesn't really make much sense, also you drew a dark outline on their chins, but then you also added shadowing above, which again is kind of strange.

If you're not thinking of keeping that almost realistic style of shading on the clothes, then I'd go with a bit more realistic face. Right now, at least to me, it seems like two different styles are use on the head and the rest of the body.

If a narrator or the main character or any other voice that is present for a lot of time is annoying to a player, then it doesn't matter what it is, making just some parts not voiced won't help anything. But as Hud said, if it is voiced then I usually find it immersion jerking when something is not voiced.
Unless the character is generally mute or the story is more important than the character, I think voiced main character is preferred over narrator to most people.

Quote from: Hudders on Thu 17/05/2012 12:55:55That said, if the object is a sign or something that the character reads and it is big enough for me to read it as well, I'd sooner not have the character bother to read it out unless he has something to say about the sign that I can't myself read, (does that make sense?).
Of course it's always better that the character makes a "useful" or "atmospheric" observation like "it looks old" or something.

I'm up to the point just returned from trying to save the bitten girl from the zombies at her door.
Spoiler
She asked the reporter for the gun, I failed to reply fast enough, we dropped down one floor and in the end she got the gun and shot herself.
Is there any way to make her go back inside without killing herself at once?

The point of the scene is the shock and choice between
Spoiler
shooting her yourself or let her shoot or try to avoid it...then you fail to avoid it. I must admit I didn't expect her to be bitten before the actual conversation in front of the door, really caught me by surprise, but then of course things go their predictable way.

Tabata makes real mice model for her so she can make all the smilies and even uses nonlethal version of Joker's laughing gas to get the big grins.

I guess we played two entirely different games then since the zombie attacks always had a button mash sequence...
Not only did they have mashing, but on pc version if you look at controls options, you can still see instruction for an xbox controller.  :-D

It would be interesting to see if they stick with choices made through the episodes, just don't know if that might lead to too much branching out from a technical standpoint though. I mean  there's 2-3 major branches just in this episode, in the next it goes exponential and then by the end of episode 5 there's really a great amount of major differences. Also the fact that they kind of count on you replaying an episode one at a time, the choices you end up with in the end might just be from an experimental gameplay you played last.

No, my edit is far from correct in perspective, I was just pointing out things and editing with much redrawing. You should use geometry to get things right.

The way I do it, when I try to draw it right...to be honest I usually go to SketchUp  (laugh) but Take the main shapes of objects (cube for the bench and the house for example) you want to draw and place them approximately on the scene, decide where the floor will be and then decide the horizon line and the vanishing points (one is ok, two usually looks more dynamic, three are usually unnecessary and better not mess with it before you get the hang of less). Then draw a net (like you did on that background in the other topic), google the way to do it  right so you have regular fields. Then you know how high objects should be where they should stand and then go to details.

I think maybe the song with the vocoder could be improved as in the words made more distinguishable, the effect might be just a tad too strong.

The rest - really everything from Miami vice (they're showing reruns on saturday mornings here, so it's pretty fresh in my memory) to Bladerunneriss/Vangelis songs and even a new film that imitates that like Drive. Really interesting and if the atmosphere was the goal, I think you nailed it, you could really make this a soundtrack to a late 80ies movies.

Your perspective seems to be way off, especially on the house and the board, also the door is too small compared to the window and the bench. Also you have a lot of what I think are called tangents, where ends of objects meet and basically you get unwanted shapes - for example the left side of the bench and the door or the right side and the grass.
Clouds look nice but I think the left side is just a bit to straight.

The left and right side of the dirt/walkable part seem to be good lines to determine where the vanishing point is, so after you establish that, then modify the rest of the scene. It should be somewhere below the Moon. You'll also have a good eye guide line composition wise.

I tried to fix some things (perspective and edges), also sharpen up that bench, it's in the foreground and should be the sharpest thing there. I'm sure somebody can do a better job here, especially with the lights, but just as a guideline:

Would I buy the game? Probably not, but that's more due to me liking the idea of zombie stories sicne usually those stories end up using elements like - he's bitten, but let's try to help him or characters freaking out and opening doors, being generally stupid. And this does happen in this game as well. Even when the obvious metaphor of "humans are the real monsters" needs to be addressed, it just usually gets messed up within "people are stupid" category.
In short - I liked the game, it was tense and story was interesting.

About the choice at the end of the game, I find it actually clear cut:
Spoiler
Doug or Carley - obviously Carley - shoots a gun pretty good, she seems not to want to tell people who I am and trusts me and Doug was pretty infatuated with and already saved her life once, so I think he wouldn't really mind the sacrifice. I think most people thought about it in that way, that's why the percentage was high.

Even though we might not agree, still shows a game has a good story concept when you actually have doubts about the choices and think about them.

.tk domains are for free. But I don't know if they show advertsing. Iirc there is a small adbar on your site then.
Or if it is okay, you can get a 3rd level domain like yourname.eu.tp for free. Or go with yourname.agser.me.
I was just kidding, besides I tried setting up wordpress on bplaced and the site has "name.bplaced.net" type of address, that's fine enough for now.

Kind of weird question, it's just that it is easier to follow the narrative - so when is the episode after this one coming? (I'm not looking for a precise date just like a general week, month, year general plan)

Do you want to have those artifacts on the walls (especially the interioir of the restaurant)? Because that looks like a render quality issue otherwise.
But yeah the character looks fitting, glad you found you artist.

000webhost is not bad but one day we had an ad appearing out of nowhere on every page. It only advertised payed hosting with the 000webhost service but was annoying nonntheless. After ~2weeks it disappeared. I recommend bplaced.net though. The only 'disadvantage' is that you have to log into your command panel every 2 month, but this should be doable. ~99% uptimes, 2GB storage, unlimited traffic, 2 FTP accounts, lots of MySQL databases, up to date php, adfree, what do you want more?!
Theoretically, a domain name.   Just kidding. This sounds pretty good and the log in every 2 months is not really a disadvantage.

Thank you, both.

I'm looking for free web hosting for a wordpress (it says PHP 5.2.4 or greater and MySQL 5.0 or greater are conditions). I'd basically need it for portfolio and for a good amount of experimenting for modifying themes (most are offering about 5gb of traffic, I'm assuming that's ok, especially if most of the traffic only I am doing by checking the site every half an hour (or minutes) to see if the stuff like style.css is working ok.

http://freehosting1.net/ has good list but I'm not sure how old is that site I'd like to ask from recent experience.

Sites like
http://www.ifastnet.com/
http://www.000webhost.com
awardspace etc.
I'm looking here and not google, because I'd like some personal opinions on traffic space.

It's not that bad, although putting a character inside might be troublesome cause of the perspective.
I thought that first one was in SketchUp, not that I consider that a bad thing.

About the floor...it's not so much too realistic, what bothers me more is that it seems like the texture is too variant and kind of distracts, also the actual texture might be the wrong size and is too small (proportion wise), it makes the room seem larger than what everything else (like furniture) points to...jeez it's kind of hard to explain.
Maybe try a more subtle texture with less contrasting surfaces.

Well BST, another acronym...it's GMT+1 in my country, I mean we move the clocks at the same time as the UK does, took me 15min to figure it out...I hate daylight saving system, should be removed..

Maybe a bit softer moves and a little less pronounced (as in smaller leaps and less arm swinging). This looks like he's in quite a hurry, while the stand pose make him seem mellow.
Also, now that I compare the 2 sprites, in his new idle pose, he seems to have a wider (too wide) head, because of the hair on the right side of his face. In a 3/4 pose and with short hair, you probably wouldn't see much of the hair, or when it comes to pixels, you probably wouldn't see it at all.
I still think he looks cool, if he was a little taller and skinnier, he'd remind me of Chevy Chase in the Fletch/Invisible man era.

Btw I think you only need 1 parameter (either width or height) in the img tags when you're zooming in, it just automatically changes the second parameter.

If her lower legs gets shadow from the rest of the leg, there probably would be some shadow from the skirt/her body on the upper legs. Otherwise, looks nice.
