How do you rotate the arms without much distortion? Whenever I rotate something like this in Photoshop it tends to distort it a bit.

And would you apply the same principles in making a backsprite?

Oh wow that actually doesn't look bad at all  The head is a bit cut off at the chin but can I see those frames please? Something like this would probably work out perfectly if I could implement it efficiently (there's also another girl character that runs the same body template.)

I'm wondering, since I'm following the basic BFAQ guide to making an RPG (obviously updating the script) but he never made it very clear how fights would work. I know this much

> Fights take place in separate rooms
> Enemies can be either characters themselves or hotspots
> Items in your inventory act as a way to attack
> Enemy health is set using SetGlobalInt

The basic jist of making this seems simple enough for me, but my question lies in the enemy health. I don't want all my enemies to default to one health code. So I'm assuming I'd have to make multiple GlobalInt for different health levels. Would there be some easier way to define this variable, or is a GlobalInt for each specific health level an enemy would be set at be the best option?

I am new to this, and I'm trying my best with it but if someone could give me an idea or lending hand in general in constructing the basics of a turn style battle system that'd be really appreciated (making the enemy have an AI and whatnot) The basics of making it happen I can do, but making it more fleshed out is where I am uncertain as to if I can accomplish without 10 miles of bugs.

Have you contacted GOG, to get more exposure for your game?

I just checked it out and submitted to it, thanks for showing me that. Hopefully this works out in my favor

Hey there.  Welcome to AGS

Love the art style you're using.
Will the game be available DRM-free?

Thank you! Most likely yes, a lot of the reason for me wanting to get on steam is for exposure to the project.

First off, thank you! Really nice to get a reply. Just wondering, what exactly do you mean by comic page per update? Like make the comic pages pertaining to something I've updated in the game and post it here?

As for the website I tried to implement the "New Reader" section to help with how complicated the site can be, but if there are still some things that need to be cleared up I could do something about that.

Yes!

The other directions are the same idea just flipped. I can also post a quick demo of the game if seeing it in game would be better.

So not to bombard you guys with question threads but I had this idea and I want an idea as to how it'd be possible.

Basically I want to have some sort of way to have customizable/equippable clothes for the character. Both my characters run the same body template so making clothes wouldn't be hard. My idea is this.

Make each outfit a different player and change the player to that one when the clothes are equipped somehow (probably through a specific location for changing clothes)
--> Question with this: How could I transfer the players inventory to the next "character" they're using? Also, how can I make these clothes have the ability to make you stronger, or more defensive? I use the SetGlobalInt method to make stats, however I don't have a defense stat. I rather wanted the clothes you where to increase your resistance to attacks, how could this be done?

The last thing is kind of a side thing, but I figured I'd tackle it in this thread. I want my character to also have a second inventory that they can access via their main one (like a button of some sort) that holds their spells, weapons, etc. How could I specify what type of item goes to what, and also the process of both of those inventories going into different clothes.

I joined a few days ago but only just saw this post.

Same here haha, didn't even notice this. I've already made a few posts but in the introduction-y spirit I found this forum through using AGS on my first game I'm making. Which is based on a webcomic called zQuest I run. I really like the program and I'm getting used to the scripting now, though I'll prob still make some posts for help.

I also have a Zelda Link to the Past romhack I've been working on for about a year or so called Oracle of Secrets under my rom hacking pseudonym "moegami"

So yes, I usually don't get involved with forums ever, but I like this place

Granted, you will never sleep but the sanity of a neverending reality causes you to go insane.

I wish time travel was real.

Critics' Lounge / Homestuck(ish) walk cycle
Fri 13/02/2015 18:59:11
So really I just want some feedback as to if this walk cycle I made to kind of emulate some of the homestuck sprite styles (it's not a fan character, it's just drawn and animated in a similar manner)

Here's the character himself, and then CLICK HERE for the whole walk cycle.

This isn't really a !!how does my character look!! thing, I just want it to know if the walk cycle looks alright for the art style. In the game it looks pretty good but I want some outside feedback, especially on whether I should put arms on the backsprite.

Once I get that feedback I'll adjust accordingly and also post the female character my game with the same layout (since they have the same body) and ask for feedback on that too.

The Rumpus Room / Corrupt-A-wish!
Wed 11/02/2015 17:27:16
This is a game that is played pretty often in lots of places, so I thought I would bring it here for you guys.

The rules are quite simple. Some one would wish for something, and the next poster would then post something that would ruin the wish.

EX:
Poster 1: I wish for a horse
Poster 2: Granted, but it is dead. I wish for telepathic powers.

And it continues thusly. It's a lot of fun.

So with that given,
I wish I had the fastest car in the world!

AGS Games in Production / zQuest End of Time

zQuest End of Time - Steam Greenlight Concept Page

Foreword:

This games concept and plot are based off of the canonical universe in my webcomic zQuest, however you do not need to read zQuest to fully understand and enjoy this game. It technically tells a prequel story to the events of the comic.

The Story:

Playing as either Lily or Wess, you awake on an island in a realm on the outskirts of reality known as the End of Time. Here you find a long abandoned research facility called Halext Labs where they experimented with time travel, alternate realities, and the structure of the universe as a whole. Littered throughout the different wings are empty portal gates that seem powerless. However, one in the backroom is actually powered on.

You play through different levels from worlds all across the universe and collecting the tears of interdimensional demons called Nevits. Using these Nevit Tears you can power on more portal gates and access other wings of the facility, slowly unraveling the dark secrets that Halext Labs holds, with a strange talking rat-lizard and an unknown voice talking in your head guiding you.

Screenshots: (the first image is really just a little poster type thing, not in game)

Developmental Progress:
Story: 80%
Scripting: 10%
Graphics: 20%
Music/Sound: None

Expected completion date: Too early to decide

I'll be providing updates to the main post as they come.

I love a lot of the background art for this one, really pretty looking  Gave you a nice big yes and favorite'd it for you! Good luck getting it on there dude .
#35
I really like what you've made, especially those loops since they sound like they'd sound really good in game. I'd love to have your music for the game.

To start off, could you make a loop for the inside of the halext labs facility? Since it's basically the hub world like peach's castle is in SM64 it's gotta be something you could hear often. Just something that'd sound good in an old abandoned laboratory.

Thanks in advance! :grin::cool:

Does it actually hinder the performance of the script if the brackets are there? I'll go through and modify them to remove the redundant brackets, but I'm just curious. I'm still reading through the tutorials and whatnot on scripting for ags so I'm not super familiar with how everything works yet.

Project:
zQuest End of Time - A webcomic brought to life in Adventure/RPG game!

Details:
First things first, as I said before this game is based off of a webcomic I make called zQuest which is at http://zeniea.com/. It's styled like a text adventure game and its got a really intricate story, and because it's styled like a video game the pretty obvious next step would be an ACTUAL video game.
The basic plot to the game is that you've awoken on a remote island with a large abandoned research facility on it called Halext Labs. After powering on a generator and exploring it you'll realize that they experimented with time travel, alternate dimensions, and other things. Littered throughout the facility are actually portals that were built that allow you to access different areas and worlds from within the zQuest canon. These portals are basically this games equivalent to the SM64 paintings

Positions Available:
Artists - While I do the majority of the art for zQuest, however for a project like this I'd need more than just myself. Things like backgrounds and enemies are something that'd just take me a lot of time to make all by myself. If you look at the comic my art style is pretty primitive to say the least, but I am flexible as to what can go into the game so long as the player character looks appropriate placed on it.
Musicians - Anything in this department is appreciated, whether its level music, menu themes, etc
Coders - Since I want this game to be part RPG with battle sequences and things of that matter I kind of need someone to help me make those features the best they can be, I do have a bit of experience coding and I do think I could do these things myself but not as proficiently as others could.
Full credit would be given, and as for payment it can be a possibility, it'd really be something to discuss with me

Deadline: None as of yet, more progress needs to be made before this can be determined.

Comments:
I'd recommend checking out the webcomic itself a bit before getting involved with it, just to get an idea as to if you'd like to be apart of something like this.
Interested parties can reply to this thread or contact me via PM.

It ended up working, though I placed the LChar2.Text=(""); in the room_Load() of the first room of the game. For some reason in global rep exec it wasnt working, but it works now  thank you!!!
#39
Okay cool it worked, only thing is when selecting the second option you can see the first options name for a split second, then it changes to who you really are. Any way to fix this?
#40
It worked perfectly! I haven't practically applied the hover portion of what you supplied but getting the characters sprite and name in was perfect. Only other thing is how could I implement this same LChar.Text=("Me"); into the HUD? I'm not sure where I would put this as I put the code for the inventory in the show_inventory_window function in GlobalScript.asc

Thanks again for all this btw
