heh. In the first level i managed to get stuck between that second flying koopa trooper and Goomba. A small invulnerability timer might not be such an bad idea ;)

that's what's the critic lounge is for ;). Altho, making all of it will be quite time consuming since you'll need to animate every enemy aswell.  So I could help you a bit on the way, because I would love to see a finished AGS platformer.

I know not the best animator ever, but I tried to keep it as simple as possible for 320x200 resolution in mind.
6 frames in total, and 1 for standing still. Frame 4 can also double for jumping up.

Give me a better sprite and i'll make it a super-awesome-slide move :p

Heh. Do you already have an idea what to create with it? Or is this just for a fun tryout

Great tech demo. What's up with the 'buttslide' move tho ;P

the particle effect does seem to get stuck on his feet. When you jump against the wall, and just let him slide all the way down, and then jump off it the particle effect will remain at his feet until you do a 'correct' wall jump.

Lies! we all know that white men can't jump!
#127
That works pretty well, altho he can jump REALLY high  :=

Hm, it's sharp here.

Try putting the filter on '4x nearest-neighbour' in the game options, and don't allow your monitor to manually stretch it (keep the aspect ratio).

That looks realy cool. Did you draw these background graphics?

My guess was a tile set from castlevania actually

Yes, it is. It feels very good.

I was using objects because of the wonderful pixel perfect collision detection plugin (which also works with characters, I know. but that was before I knew of the max of 40 objects per screen). I'll try using the 'DrawImage' function instead then, and handle the amount of projectiles myself. That'll make a good exercise to keep me occupied for a while.

Hey, I've been busy with a simple shooter concept as of late and have a question about the maximum number of objects one can use on a single screen. Well, I've run into this problem fairly quickly since every bullet I use on screen has to be it's own object. This including with the enemies I top the maximum objects very, very quickly.

Now, I could reuse the old objects and just designate a certain number row of objects to enemies, bullets and so on (e.g. object 10 to 19 for enemies, 20 to 29 for projectiles) and change their given appearance. But this is allot more fiddly and less readable then designate objects to a fixed object number.

So, is it possible to up the maximum? Or am I going to have it do the hard way  :'(

spilled cola once over my laptop. I immediatly took out the keyboard (which are really thin) put it under  a copy machine so I knew where all the keys went, got a plastic coffee spoon from the schools kitchen, disassembled all the keys with said spoon  (which had a tiny hinge system inside them, a 150 in total i believe it was) cleaned up the (luckily flexible)  circuit board of the keyboard. And then put everything back together with the help of the photocopy I made earlier.

And it all worked out just fine. Usually cola means a certain death for your keyboard.

That's a lot better, now for a bit of flickering effect on the engine glow and engine blast and I think you're set :)

if the engine is running with such a visible thrust, how can the darkest part of the "fins' be on the inside instead of the outside ?
Just nitpicking here, i know  :=

Nice corrections, Arboris!  The only thing I would worry about is if it's a scrolling area you could run into some sharp angles at that horizon level.

Wouldn't you use multiple vanishing points if it's a large scrolling area?
I'm no expert with this myself, in these cases I just draw what looks somewhat alright to me
