(mainly because of radiosity)...

Whoa whoa whoa evolve, this ain't a 3D art program ;)

Seriously though, thinking about ways I might want to use this feature, I came up with either: 1. At a certain point in a game I want some kind of sunset scene, recycling a bg and character except adding a colour tint, and 2. A "redout" death scene.

Not that I have any idea whether this can be done using the present system or not, just thought I'd add my two cents.

Whoa Gamefreek... not that I mind or anything, but why exactly have you just dug up two posts from JANUARY?
#203
Seems like there's a weird bug somewhere else in your script that's screwing that particular event handler up

I'm sorry, but how on EARTH are you supposed to play an adventure game with a one button mouse?

For that matter, how on earth do you use a computer with a one button mouse :x I have trouble using less than three.

Before your if() statement, put this code:

Display("%d",player.activeinv);

Then you'll be able to tell why the interaction isn't being triggered.

Well I played it for a little, it's actually quite fun :D The two things I noticed were: 1. When replaying the previous player's moves, any destroyed units appear as destroyed before they are actually destroyed in the replay... if you see what I mean. 2. There are some balancing issues between the infantry and the robots... the infantry's ability to attack diagonally doesn't quite offset the robot's greater power.

Are you sure you're using inventory 10 on 7 and not 7 on 10?
#209
Whoa! Why on earth was this post dragged up from three months ago?

This is the way I see it:

1. People should not have picked on Darth's thread; I don't see anything wrong with it.
2. Darth, you have to admit you are a bit cocky. I mean, no offence, but maybe you should give a little, act less sure of your own superiority?

Actually, minime, it's quite common for people to post not-strictly-game-related stuff here for crit. If someone's breaking the rules, I think you can trust a mod to sort it out, yes? ;)
#212
Aha, it's because I selected "character turns before facing location" or whatever, and forgot I did it. So there's no real problem any more.

I think debates such as "creation vs evolution" and "the mp3 debate" should definately be locked. This is because people have too much of themselves invested in these topics to ever be able to reach a compromise, which leads to flame wars, bad feelings, and all kinds of other things. I just don't think it's worth it. And it's not about whether somebody is an oldbie or a newbie, it's about which topics are flagrant flame material.

I don't think it matters a jot. Look at the popularity of FF7, for example. Although the translation is pretty good, it's nowhere near as good as it would be had an English person translated it. But that didn't stop it from selling a million playstations.

There are two things the metal parts of the battery need to stop them looking like plastic:

1. Specular - this refers to the highlights on the surface, in this picture they're white because of the white light source. Metal specular is generally smaller and has a harder edge than plastic. I don't know how advanced your renderer is so I'm not sure if you'll be able to correct this.
2. Environment mapping - metal looks shiny because it reflects the area around it. When modelling an entire scene you don't need to worry about this, because there's plenty to reflect. However, since you've got an object in the middle of nothing, you need to apply an image (it can be anything, really; something like black and grey trees against a white sky could work well) as an environment map to the metal texture.

Other than that, really well done. The label looks spot on; an excellent first attempt.

Oh look, another thread that's been done to death and that nobody ever has any hope of reaching agreements about.
#217
Sounds well cool :D I'll definitely be downloading it.

Depends on what type of composer, and what type of programmer ^_^

And I was on this forum as Apolloice way before I rejoined as Archangel, so there :P

Hmm, let's see... in the order they occured to me I think I've wanted to be:

A military pilot
A surgeon or doctor
A programmer
A composer

And that's where I am at the moment. It seems my aspirations have got less and less glamourous as my life has gone on  :-X although I only just realised that as I was writing them down.
