Yeah I think in MI when Guybrush was about 2 pixels high he would move at the same speed as when he was 100%, so giving the appearance that he was moving at 100 miles per hour, when in terms of pixels per second he was going at the same speed.

mp3 music makes filesize go up way quicker than hi res. And in practical terms, 640x480x16 shouldn't show any slowdown; most people use 320x200 because they 1. can't draw (like me) 2. love old-school or 3. both.

Hmm... the chord progressions, bassline and reverb/delay seem to suggest a late 80's synth track rather than a boy band. The chords in particular seem too... spaced out and intellectual; most boy bands seem to stick to triads and dominant 7ths. Where's the accoustic piano? Electric pianos just don't cut it really. But apart from that, superb work, the vocal harmony is spot on (unlike several eurovision entries...) and the accoustic guitar line near the end is great. The piano line could do with a bit of beefing up imo, but that's just because I'm a pianist and not satisfied unless there's some elton john-like skills required to play a track.

I agree completely, Scotch. I would never limit myself by saying 'I have to create this piece in the dorian mode'; instead I might say 'write something for a medieval scene. And I know I've just said exactly what you have but I agree that totally :P

Also gives a chance for poor souls like Trapezoid who think it's beneath them to learn theory :P:P

Ok people, when I suggested kikme I was doing it semi tounge-in-cheek, since although it COULD be him, it's just as likely to be one of a hundred other people. So, sorry I didn't make myself clear at first.

Lol that email from 'Urklethon' is classic. If all hackers were that funny then I'm sure we'd be living in a utopia of happily haxoring each other right now.

Femme: for a minute there I thought you were profiling Kikme.

Hold on a second....

Not much use if he isn't here... but ok, worth a shot

Well, he hasn't been around for a couple of months, and neither has bruised, so might I suggest it goes straight to Eggie?

I've tried green darker than that and it doesn't work... as soon as I've remembered what ochre is supposed to look like then I'll try that instead.

Edit: according to dictionary.com ochre is 'a moderate orange yellow'. So basically, it wouldn't work any better than my orange :P I suppose I'll try blue next

Another edit: I went back to orange, but darkened the grey background down the side. I think it works now (fingers crossed)

I changed the orange for green (thank god for stylesheets, eh?) and it works way better on the grey, although at the cost of making it look even more drab than it already did.

Right, sorry it took so long, but my ISP decided to disconnect me for a couple of days. I'm sending it to you now, Sasha.

I knocked this up in about an hour; it's the webby for my upcoming game Path of Crystal. I'd appreciate some comments, especially from users of Netscape or Opera. http://www.btinternet.com/~peter.rocker/PoC/

If you have any comments about the demo itself, please put them in this thread: http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=8;action=display;threadid=5678

Of course, but there's a point where you know TOO much music theory and can lose touch with the primal driving force of music. Knowing chords and general composition is obvious. Formal music theory tends to involve passing over your own instinct. Music has a random heart, and if there were ever a Greatest Song Ever I imagine it would break a lot of rules.

Only if you let it. Beethoven must have known all the music theory there is in the world, but that didn't stop him kickstarting the romantic period. Take a look at his 5th symphony (which is a pretty good candidate for Greatest Song Ever) and don't tell me he could have done that with just a rudimentory understanding of chords.

One of my monitors is perfectly bright at about half settings, the other is way too dark at full settings. The moral of the story: make everything a bit brighter than you want it to look; it's better than some people not being able to see it at all.

You can do

//on room enter (before fadein)
if(CheckToSeeIfItsDaytime())
 character[POLICE].room = 5; //or whatever number
else
 character[POLICE].room = -1; //get rid of the cop when night

Bob: there is no "railroad" (I assume you mean railway :P ) station called Mornington Crescent, it's fictional. A basic knowledge of the major UK stations is helpful but by no means neccessary.
