Asclepius, naked model does not apply, my friend. Farm labourer does. Or elephant hygiene technician.

Yes, those elephants were a challenge. So many skin-folds.... I lost some good friends in there.

For the last year or so, I've been a student psychiatric nurse and part time carer for the elderly.

Previously, soldier, EHT, carer, naked model and farm labourer.

Some of those are manly? Maybe manly-lite.

Here's an attempt at a front-on walkcycle. I'm pretty happy with the head/legs, but the arm swing still doesn't look quite right.

EDIT: Sprite resized as per Calin's advice

Right - I'm off to 'research' naked women in provocative poses  ;D

Thanks for the tips/paintover ProgZmax. Tis awesome indeed.

Chubby dwarf indeed! :o She looks like a good healthy Welsh girl to me :p

I'm not too worried about making her completely anatomically correct and proportionate - I quite like the slightly big head style.

Here's my second attempt:

There's something a bit off with the pose and I can't quite put my finger on it. Also still having trouble with shading - does anybody know where there are some good pixel art shading tutorials knocking about? Or is it a matter of learning by trial and error?

EDIT:

Quote from: KhrisBtw, you don't have to scale up the image in your paint program. Just double or triple the sprite's width and put that into the img tag

Thanks! Made things a lot easier :)

Here's an attempt at a more original character - You can probably tell I used the shading on Sophia's face as a bit of a reference but I think the whole thing (the face included) has a different look - more like the character I had in my head. The plan eventually is to have both a male and a female player character.

She definitely needs some work, but I'm pleased at the first attempt.

The sprite's temporary for now - just the first sprite I found to paint over. When I get a bit better at drawing them I'll come up with an OC.

Sorry - Wasted your time. I've fixxed it  :o :o

You're right of course. I was just hoping you weren't so I could be lazy.

I'm having a bit of trouble with waypoints and NPCs - specifically this blasted fellow:

All I want him to do is scuttle around on some rocks. After searching through other people's threads and a few attempts to code this I can't seem to get him to go anywhere. It's probably something simple that I'm doing wrong - Here's my attempt:

function room_RepExec()
{
cCrab.Walk(113, 185, eNoBlock,  eAnywhere);
 cCrab.AddWaypoint(14, 186);
 cCrab.AddWaypoint(15, 149);
 cCrab.AddWaypoint(14, 186);
 cCrab.AddWaypoint(113, 185);
}

When I put the blocking thingy as 'eBlock', he walked to the first point and stopped, but didn't go to his next destination.

Can anybody give me any pointers?

EDIT: I should mention - he tries to walk, i.e. his walking animation is playing, but he doesn't move off his comfy little spot.

Love the paint over. I'm not fussed about losing detail - it just makes the whole thing look more Sierra-y.

I'll have a go at making those rocks a bit more varied, and I'll add in a couple of animated critters for interest.

As far as perspective in the second area goes, I'm happy with it to be honest. There are exits down the steps and to the top right, and it looks OK to me. I'll make the bushes at the bottom of the screen wider though to cover the whole of that edge.

I've been playing around with my areas. I've modified the beach a little, and I think the town scene is going to have to be completely redone.

What do you think of these?

I haven't got around to custom cursors and such yet.

Wow! Thanks for all the feedback - tis appreciated  :)

I'll rework these a bit based on what people have said.

Here's some areas for my new project that will be taking over my free time for the next age. A Quest for Glory esque adventure game/rpg set in a Celtic-y land.

Also, some concept sketches (drawn by my wife - I'm not that talented) for characters.

Scene #2: Beach

Comments? Advice?

What dyou think?

P.S. Many thanks to Corby LaCroix for the rather awesome Photoshop tutorials I found.

Hi, I'm new here, so this is simultaneously my picture and my "interesting, helpful (and) funny" introduction.

I'm 25 years old, male and from the UK. I've been a big fan of Sierra's old adventure games since I was very young (the QFG series in particular) and I plan to create a QFG style game myself using the studio, perhaps set in Gloriana but with a new character and in a new area. I'm thinking of Gramarye.

(I'm under no illusion that this will be easy, but I'm a fairly quick learner and I'll have some spare time on my hands in the evenings for most of next year)

We'll see how it goes in any case. I've not used the studio before and my coding experience is limited to a bit of Visual Basic  ::)

Anyway. Here is a pic of me (the one in the rather fetching uniform) and my wife at our wedding, which wasn't long ago.

I look forward to getting to know you all  ;D
