Would it be possible to invert the direction of your cursor in an AGS game?
For example, you move the mouse right but it goes left, you move the mouse up but it goes down, like the option to invert controls on a joystick.

I tried drawing something. It's a three eyed skeleton warrior which explains why he's so skinny.
It's for nothing in particular but the first time I've tried drawing something seriously.

What do you think, and can anybody give me help on drawing feet? I can't draw feet at all. Thanks.

Topic: 'Forgotten'
This month's guidelines were set by hedgefield:

Society moves so fast, it's inevitable some things are lost to the hands of time.

Create a game in which something has been forgotten.

Ideas to help you:

• An old lady struggles with Alzheimer's
• Construction of a Las Vegas casino desecrates an indian burial ground
• A kid is left behind when his parents go on vacation
• A faded star tries to make a comeback

What is MAGS?

MAGS is a monthly competition for all amateur adventure game makers. The idea is to create a game in under a month, following the rules set by the previous winner. It aims to help you work to a deadline, improve your skills, or provide a kick-start into making adventure games. Regardless of skill, MAGS is for everyone. Voting is based on "favorite" games, and not the most artistic, or the best coded. If you have bad art skills, use it as a chance to do some graphic work. If you're sub-standard at coding, use it as a chance to give scripting a go. Ultimately, people will vote for the most enjoyable entry.

You may get help for the competition, although you must end up doing something yourself. You should however be warned that it proves difficult to organize a big team within thirty days. You are not allowed to use material already created before this competition. Your game must be completely new! Music and sound is an exception; you can use free material that is available to the public, if you wish. Modules and templates are also allowed. Please do not enter the competition with a rushed entry (a game created last minute). Sure, you can make a game and rush it - but don't do this just to win by default.

Entering MAGS is simple. First, conceptualise your game following the month's criteria (see top). Second, create your game fueled only by coffee. Third, finally, and most importantly, post your game here, including:

✓ A working download link.
✓ The title of your game.
✓ A suitable screenshot.

At the end of the month, the all-important voting will begin! This period usually lasts fifteen days. Should you win, along with announcing the next month's rules, your name and game will be immortalised in the MAGS Archive. Yet hopefully, at the end of the month, the accomplishment of finishing a game will be your greatest prize. For more information please visit the Official MAGS website.

When I click on something in my game my cursor occasionally jumps a few pixels. It's nothing big but doesn't look very nice.

What could be causing this?

Topic: 'Tension'

This month's guidelines were set by Creed Malay:

Make a game based around mounting tension in a closed environment.

This could be a ship lost at sea, a snowed in cabin, or a house surrounded by zombies.

The player should face conflicts with the other characters trapped there with them, having to deal with their panic, problems with each other and the player, and the fact that they might have agendas of their own...

Ideas to help you:

• How did the character(s) end up in this situation?
• Are there any ways of communicating with the outside world?
• What causes conflicts - different opinions, secrets being kept, limited resources?

Anybody heard of or practiced lucid dreaming before? Lucidity is being aware that you're dreaming while you're still inside the dream. This means your wakened conscious state can actually control the content of your dreams. Not only is your imagination untamed but dreams are 100% real whilst you're in them, so all your other senses come into play and you literally do whatever you want as if it was real - drive fast cars, meet deceased family/friends, and of course fly. (There's naturally infinite potential for chronic nightmare sufferers).

I've only had a lucid dream once before, like a year back or so. And it was awesome. I was in a car park and I thought to myself "I'm dreaming aren't I?" So I pointed to the other side of the car park to test it out and teleported instantly (I wish now I did something more exciting). Unfortunately I managed to wake myself up. Teleporting on a whim had actually confirmed my belief it was a dream - you have to strike a fine balance between remaining conscious enough to remain in control, but on the other hand let the dream run or you'll wake up.

So I thought it was about time to have another lucid dream. I'd heard of it before but didn't realise there were ways to induce them [naturally]. Apparently I have to keep a dream journal and get used to a "reality check". This is something like counting how many fingers you have during the day (last time I checked it was seven), so you can cross-reference how many digits you own in your dream.

Has anybody else had any experience with lucid dreams? I'll keep you posted if my return to Lucid Land is successful.

Hello.

In total, there have been 255 MAGS entries over eight years, with an average of 32 per year. As there are 1253 games in the database at the moment, it means 18% of those are MAGS entries. In short, it's quite an achievement to be voted winner of an annual vote over 31 other people, as is being nominated for the AGS awards.

So I thought it would be a good idea to give Maggies winners a title under their avatar. Specifically, our eleven candidates for knighthood:

Mark Fozbee
jaz
Bernie
buloght
Dave Gilbert
Ben304
paolo
ProgZmax
abstauber
Ascovel
Baron

So, what's the general consensus on this? Another question is what the title could be. 'Maggies Winner [year]' keeps it simple but is a tad boring.

While I have the opportunity you can also leave feedback about MAGS in general, excluding supersession of the current host, who's doing a damn good job.

The floor is open.

VERY URGENT - PLEASE READ - NOT A JOKE PASS THIS ON!

IF A PERSON CALLED SIMON ASHTON CONTACTS YOU THROUGH EMAIL DON'T OPEN THE MESSAGE. DELETE IT BECAUSE HE IS A HACKER!!

TELL EVERYONE ON YOUR LIST   BECAUSE IF SOMEBODY ON YOUR LIST ADDS HIM  THEN YOU WILL GET HIM ON YOUR LIST. HE WILL FIGURE OUT YOUR ID COMPUTER ADDRESS, SO COPY AND PASTE THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE EVEN IF YOU DON'T CARE FOR THEM AND FAST BECAUSE IF HE HACKS THEIR EMAIL HE HACKS YOUR MAIL TOO!!!!!.....

Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on.  This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled  'Mail Server Report'

If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying:  'It is too late now, your life is no longer  beautiful.'

Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC,
And the person who o sent it to you will gain access to your  name, e-mail and password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's are not capable of destroying it ...

The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself  'life owner'..

PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to
PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY!

Take Care

Lol! Anybody with half a brain cell can tell you it's an IP not an ID, and if your account was "hacked" it's not going to affect your hard-drive. And what kind of lame-ass bad-ass name is "Life Owner" anyway?! Encrypted Wrath, Binary Butcher, Synapse Slayer, now those are some cool tech villain names!

Other things I've had are reams of Spanish which I translated and it's telling me to go to my nearest church straight away and repent for my sins. The funniest I had was some "Korean" girl proclaiming her undying love to me, and reassuring me it's not too late to be together.

I even get spam texts:

QuoteHi, it's John-Paul from Window Wipers. Sorry to text late. I will be there tomorrow to clean windows. If you not in, can you leave gate unlocked. Thanks

QuoteOur records indicate you could be owed £3000 for the accident you had. Text CLAIM to claim. Text STOP to stop.

The way spam texts work is the senders set up "business" accounts which charge you £5 or something stupid to text back. Firstly, Window Wipers SUCKS. They have all the originality and intelligence of a sea monkey. Secondly, why are they "texting late" in the middle of the day. Thirdly, texting STOP is such an obvious trap when you've only received one text.

Spam's good for entertainment, but what makes me annoyed is that people actually fall for things so easily. If they didn't spam wouldn't exist. People only seem to take things at face value. I do feel sorry for older people who get taken advantage of with "you've won a £1000", but then again their age group doesn't have a high percentage of internet users and spamming through the letterbox is going the way of the dodo, as it's so much cheaper and easier to distribute things electronically. So in fifty years time I hope people will be more tech-savvy.

Does anybody else have any spam tales? (I mean, tales about spam, not tales of spam) ;D

Topic: 'Time'

This month's guidelines were set by DuncanFX:

Time is running out for your protagonist!
Make a game featuring some form of timed "threat".

Ideas to help you:

• A time bomb must be disarmed...
• A dying old man's final day...
• A comet is heading for the Earth...
• You're late for work! Hurry up or you'll be fired!
• You need to escape a bedroom before your illicit affair is discovered...

MAGGIES 2010

Well, in the overlapping handover I forgot to hold Maggies - the round-up of all the year's entries! So forget your economic meltdown (aka credit crunch, bankers' crisis etc). It's what's happened here that counts! Last year under King Dualnames we got twenty eight entries over twelve months, a few of which went through to grabbing awards quite recently!

So, I'll cut the spiel and let you get down to voting. You can see an alternative overview of the list HERE.

The way you vote is up to you. As always, it's not about the best coded, or the best graphics, but about the game that you enjoyed the most.

For voting please visit the MAGS site or make your choice right here:

Recently RoN celebrated its 10th anniversary. What better way to celebrate than a special edition MAGS!? There is none! (Except cookies).

Topic: 'Celebration'

This month's guidelines were set by Renegade Implementor:

The theme is open but must include some sort of celebration (be it holiday, birthday, or anniversary).

As well as this, the game should also be either:

• Set in the RoN town itself, or somewhere in the surrounding area (such as the beach or forest).
• Set in another location (eg park, cave, launderette), providing the main character(s) are existing RoN characters (think Roadtrip).

Bottom line, your game must feature a celebration of some kind, and have one of these connections to the RoN series.

Resources:

The RoN site provides a wealth of resources (backgrounds, sprites, history) to help you get started. You are allowed to use any of these, providing you end up doing something yourself.

• Characters!
• Backgrounds! (ddl)
• Character sprites! (ddl)

Alternatively, you could create your own graphics based off these resources. Quite frankly, why bother?

Good luck to everybody, and happy birthday Ron ;D Before I forget, here are some cookies.

There's not enough to go around so please share.

I swear I've read how to do this somewhere but cannot find it again... how do I simulate a key being pressed? There is text added to an input box, and I'd like enter to be 'pressed' afterwards so the player doesn't have to.
