Um. Actually, the role of the military isn't just kill kill kill, like you suggest. Armies can and are used peacefully, giving aid where it is needed, home or abroad, and as a passive deterrent.

Let's look at it another way. A brain surgeon and a soldier are not unlike in many respects - both require concentration, advanced training, skill, patience, etc. Ignoring the fact one takes lives and the other saves lives, it would be unheard of to deny a gay man from becoming a surgeon. And no brain surgeon in an operation would ever be distracted because the assistant is gay.

Having a few gay people in a regiment will not put anybody's life at risk, I promise you. So what is the problem?

You're too kind to me and too harsh on yourself :-*

Thanks for the replies all.

General Discussion / Something Deadly

I like mushrooms. So, quite often I go out hunting for them, then bring them back for identification and analysis. Already I have built up an ecological profile of the immediate area. Of course, I never eat them because I even hate cultivated mushrooms. In my opinion, they're there to be enjoyed visually.

Anyway, earlier today I went out to the woods. It was slow going, and because of the recent weather I thought I'd be out of luck. But after three quarters of an hour, something turned up:

Apart from being relieved I wouldn't go home empty handed, I took it with me and thought nothing of it. However, it was only when I returned when I discovered something quite terrible. As customary, I recorded the haul in XCEL, and prepared the two different species I'd found for spore samples. I preliminarily conferred with my field guide. What I had in fact found was Amanita phalloides, or a Death Cap.

They earn their name because they are deadly poisonous. Let me put the symptoms into perspective, thanks to wikipedia:

• abdominal pain
• diarrhea
• vomiting
• hypotension
• tachycardia
• hypoglycemia
• jaundice
• delirium
• seizures
• coma
• Renal failure
• coagulopathy
• intracranial pressure
• intracranial hemorrhage
• pancreatitis
• cardiac arrest.

The specimen I found was worse for wear in that it was slightly nibbled, but other than that, it was still young. And as I held it in my hand, I came to me that if I ate it at that moment, I would die. Albeit very slowly, and painfully. It also came to me how something so small and unassuming could take a human life quite wickedly. Needless to say I cleaned up carefully. I hope.

Please leave any thoughts.

Totally Wrong

So there I was, gawping at the bakery display, idle.
Baked lemon cheesecake with raspberries and gold dust. Oh, wow.

When in the reflection, I saw the legendary cage fighter, Rock-Hard-Crippler Smith. I'd seen that bald beast numerous times, giving smack-down on Dave ja vu. He had a face that could sour cow titty juice. And there he was, casting his toned shadow upon me.

"Oi. I want a word with you."

I soiled my y-fronts big time.

Was I standing in Rock-Hard-Crippler's way?
Did he want to admire the culinary delights too?
Perhaps it was because my name's Clive?

Whatever, it couldn't have been good. He wore GBH convictions as badges. So I got of there.

"OI! COME BACK!" he called after me. The pavement trembled as he took up pursuit, ploughing down old ladies and nuns as he went. I was panting, I was sweating, I was heaving with the exertion of moving my legs, but somehow, I'd almost made it to the end of the high-street! The safety of a phone box called! No pun intended.

I dived head first into the booth and slammed the door. Wow, that was close. But Crippler Smith had caught up, and set about tearing the phone box from the ground. "RARRRR!" he snarled, shattering panes of glass with his iron grip.

"You dropped your bloody wallet!"

I'm left handed and can use the mouse either on my left or right. But using it with my left can get confusing because I have to think before I click. It would be a nice feature to have for militant lefties.

I heard someone compare this to not allowing drunk people to drive because it endangers other people. Do you think thats a fair comparison?

Absolutely not. A gay person is not a chromosomal aberrant. Gay people are not dangerous simply by being gay. Drunk people are.

Is there any user who has or has been recently serving in the military? I'd love to hear Private Joe Blogg's opinion.

Well done Arjon, this is very useful stuff. An author column would prove handy too, but might take a lot of work :(

Oliwerko please.

Incidentally over the past few days I have compiled an almost complete list of FWC entries. Ever.
I have updated the neglected wiki page with this, so if you're ever short of something to read, you know where to go! =)

My (old) iso background is complete now, and up for scrutiny! =D
The right wall will be filled up with a banner for the Giant Veg Comp.
I've tried really hard to make one that looks natural, but it's difficult.
If anybody could give me some directions I'd really appreciate that.

iceygames really is an amazing creature. You can learn all there is to know about his ways in a month, and yet after a hundred years he can still surprise you.

Even if you don't want feedback, still get rid of the Square Enix logos, the ESRB ratings, and the links to Square Enix. None of the small print is necessary because nothing there is legitimate, so get rid of all that to play it safe.
