Hi mode, glad to know I managed to recruit fresh meat =D. It's also great to hear about your entry, I'm certainly looking forward to it.

You may get help with something like music, as this is generally (dare I say always?) the most time-consuming*. Help could of course be internal or external to the forums. As long as you create the majority of your entry, you're fine.

*Except if you're Calin, of course =p
But I suppose it depends whether you're using pre-made loops, or whether you actually play all the instruments yourself.
I only learnt to play a recorder at school =(. Yet I'm not terrible with a harmonica.

I'm a Human, Mechanised

It is a cold day, but the weather is forecast to improve further into the week. Large Ben strikes seven, and across Lundun everybody awakes routinely. An Enforcer patrols the streets in his magnet car.

"Seven AM! Seven AM!" he shouts through a gigaphone as he goes.

On the 2589th floor of the 2589th tower block, and in room C2589, a man hears the Enforcer and wakes.
Metal arms present him with breakfast.

"Good morning sir, did you sleep well, sir?"
"The temperature is a balmy -30º today, sir."
"It's your favourite again, sir!"

He finishes the breakfast, taking abject care not to spill any tea on the electric duvet. The metal arms whisk away the dirties, and promptly clothe him.

"Just a trim?" asks the barberbot.
"Would you like vanilla or chocolate flavoured floss, sir?" asks the dentabot.
"What colour sponge would you prefer, sir?" asks the bathingbot.

The man doesn't answer.
Something catches his eye.

A bird is on the windowsill.

A bird with bright blue feathers. It sings a sweet song - cocks it head, and surveys the man through the perspex. What a strange sight. The bird with bright blue feathers scampers about - levitates for a second or two. The man has never seen this before.

But the curtains are jammed closed.

"Oh, that's nothing, sir!"
"Indeed, merely a trifle!"
"Don't worry about that, sir!"

So the man robotically resumes choosing dental floss.
And the robots grimace mechanically.

Time has eaten roughly half way through MAGS now.
Has anybody been inclined to enter, or indeed has anybody started something?

Not A. Corporations like that are sure to have hit-men. And your address.
Not B. Corporations like that are sure to spy on you if you resign spontaneously.

So possibly D. If I end up calling the shots, I can stop all this without court cases, tapped phone-lines, or a bullet in my brain.

Or E. Go back the next day and photograph all the evidence with a disposable camera. Then give the film to the regular soak in the local, who we all know works for the Secret Service.

Khris was just updating the chess board.

Why not call it simply The House? It sounds more ominous.

"What's for tea tonight dad?"
"Brisket soup river powder again I'm afraid."
"Awww! But we wanted fuck to fry the cow river!"

I am aware that I'm not a good artist

First of all, I'm surprised you're talking this way! The graphics were really quaint and colourful. I didn't actually mind all the jokes about the author being rubbish at this and that - but mostly it felt really forced. So you should definitely have more confidence in your own graphics, rather than think you'd better cover yourself on the off-chance somebody says "terrible graphics".

Gameplay was good. Sometimes I felt I was missing an in-joke, such as when you tell us about a psychotic woman with a knife confronting you. It was a bit strange to say the least =D. The music was cheerful, and surprisingly did not get overly repetitive. Animations were fantastic. When I discovered new scenes there was lots to look at (in a good way), but on the other hand, perhaps sometimes too much (as Alun said).

Ashamedly I have only ever played a handful of AGS games, so whether I played this one by coincidence, or whether it subconsciously caught my eye, I have no idea. Therefore as a relative outsider with no anticipations in an AGS game, well done.

How about something cliché ominous, like 'The Beckoning', or 'The Abandoning'? Or, thesaurusing shelter returned the saying 'Port in a Storm'. It might make a nice abstract title, considering this man's predicament.

Really spooky screenshots, well done.

Thanks everybody. I guess I'm just lucky to be on such a great forum =3

Topic: 'The Bad Guy'
This month's guidelines were set by tzachs:

The hero doesn't have to be "evil", but he/she needs to at least
have some form of low morals (for example, in the Chzo games
Trilby was a burglar). And for bonus points (to honor the previous
host Dualnames): a towel as an inventory item...

Good luck to all participants.

What is MAGS?
MAGS is a monthly competition for all amateur adventure game makers. The idea is to create a game in under a month, following the rules set by the previous winner. It aims to help you work to a deadline, improve your skills, or provide a kick-start into making adventure games. Regardless of skill, MAGS is for everyone. Voting is based on "favorite" games, and not the most artistic, or the best coded. If you have bad art skills, use it as a chance to do some graphic work. If you're sub-standard at coding, use it as a chance to give scripting a go. Ultimately, people will vote for the most enjoyable entry.

You may get help for the competition, although you must end up doing something yourself. You should however be warned that it proves difficult to organize a big team within thirty days. You are not allowed to use material already created before this competition. Your game must be completely new! Music and sound is an exception; you can use free material that is available to the public, if you wish. Modules and templates are also allowed. Please do not enter the competition with a rushed entry (a game created last minute). Sure, you can make a game and rush it - but don't do this just to win by default.

Entering MAGS is simple. First, conceptualise your game following the month's criteria (see top). Second, create your game fueled only by coffee. Third, finally, and most importantly, post your game here, including:

✓ A working download link.
✓ The title of your game.
✓ A suitable screenshot.

At the end of the month, the all-important voting will begin! This period usually lasts fifteen days. Should you win, along with announcing the next month's rules, your name and game will be immortalised in the MAGS Archive. Yet hopefully, at the end of the month, the accomplishment of finishing a game will be your greatest prize. For more information please visit the Official MAGS website.

Note: I trust the smarter thread is to everybody's satisfaction.
Note 2: Thank you once again to Dualnames, who proved an enormous help throughout my inauguration =D

Huzzah, thank you OneDollar! We can rescue this yet!

Anybody else for LMAGS? (Last Minute AGS).

Starting from now, ten seconds.

Edit: Time up.

It's a real shame nobody managed this month. :(

Is there anybody out there who might have something? ... anything?!

Creed Malay.
#1139
I'm cutting it a bit fine here (not that I can compete with Creed Malay or Oliwerko anyway 8)).
So please, I hope you enjoy reading my poem.

Kings of the Earth

supple in limb.
spreading arms
over minor
minions.

attired,
in summer finery;
heads full of hair.

crowns of
rubies and
emeralds,
and
at
autumn's
approach,
golds.

yet in old age,
naked,
they chant:

skylark sing!
and brooklet ring!
then crown me,
Reborn King!

Hey these are really good.

There's absolutely nothing to say about the two forest scenes, except I see a 'cannabis' leaf that looks pretty strange. Just paint that over or something and they're good to go.

Shouldn't the sea be more choppy in the beach scene? Probably an excellent opportunity for an animated background. You could also mask the line between the cliff and sand with some scree or something. (The contrast sticks out like a sore thumb).

In the town, there should certainly be some lighting, so you can avoid having to simulate night over the scene, which if you don't mind me saying, looks like Atlantis! Or Dunwich.

Great concept art and bgs, good luck, etc.
