I just added a fleur-de-lis pattern to the wallpaper (made it a bit darker, mansions are spooky!), added some "marble" flooring at the edges, and put a skirting board around the room. Just for show, to point out some things you could do to smarten it up a bit.

Also the front door and pillars are a little blurred, and the window should be re-designed to look less like an easter egg. Plus, on top of a patterned wallpaper, you should chock it full of paintings of former owners of the estate, so the player can infer some history. A grandfather clock and suit of armour on the landing would be good as well. Heh, then if it's still not cluttered enough you can remove two of the pillars and site a fireplace there, complete with coal scuttle and curios on the mantel piece. A lot of ideas to work with. Parfait.

The Oldest War

As solid and as strong as stone,
In a ponderous stance they stand.
Watching, waiting,
Wondering about the sea.

Unceasing, unending,
Unconfined.
Unbound by foundations,
Unshackled, unshakable.

In eternal conflict.
They resist the waves,
The water,
The wind,
And the white beasts,
That dance up their legs.

As solid and as strong as stone,
In a ponderous stance,
Still standing.

Instead of their hair having those connection things, why didn't he just make it the tail?

The Na'avi use their minds to control the actions of their mounts, therefore it's a link from the head of the native to the body of the animal.

If someone confronts you, just tell them you're stoned

This is a great excuse! :D You could get away with so much using this... except maybe a traffic stop.

Slightly cheeky of me calling for a vote, but I vote for discordance anyway.

I thought usually the winner was decided by the other entrants, with some time for voting?

My penis is outside the frame by a decent margin.

Better keep the warning Monkey, this thing looks mighty suspicious to me.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Armoured EVA suit...

What sort of terrain will your soldier be operating on? The suit should reflect the type of soldier, and take into account practicality. A bright blue suit of armour wouldn't be the best option in normal environments, unless it's ceremonial. So I think you should consider how the suit will be used tactically, and how it suits where the soldier is based.

The back view niggles me, but other than those two things, it's quite good.

I've visited them everyday since joining, too. I paid a grand total of €2 to use the only computer with an internet connection for miles and miles when I went camping, just to see the sky blue and turquoise bands of the forums... :'(

I've just seen it, and think it's a very fun film to watch. The books have been adapted into films so many times, and the series has been chewed, and chewed. Yes, it is just another Sherlock Holmes film, but I think it will stand out amongst the rest.

Guy Ritchie has to keep up with the times - the hard, unreadable, un-eccentric character (which previous films have had) has been done away with, and replaced by a Jack-Sparrow-esque character, which is able to drag an element of humour into it.

The time warps were excellent and made the film; and in true Sherlock fashion everything was unravelled at the end.

I'm rather disappointed with Apple's new iPad. It's let down the skeptics, offers nothing revolutionary, and goes for $499. The screen resolution on the iPad is a mere 1024x768, not even the size of Full HD video. Have you seen the app pages? The text is huge and the bar at the bottom is an inch tall! It only needs to be half a centimetre.

I'm unsure whether it will ever take off.

Hmm... Life and McCarthy appears for me too. Are you twins?

Edit: Your username has Shade in. That's probably messing it up somehow.

FIRST STEPS ON EARTH!
HUMAN LANDING MISSION SUCCESSFUL!

At 39:61fh this morning, humans colonised another planet. The research mission, Apollo HURT (Heavy Utility Research Team) touched down upon a rocky outcrop on Earth; forever a symbol of mystery in our skies, and finally within our reach. The first reports are sketchy, although astronauts describe a planet likened by some to a sci-fi flick. There are indications of river beds once, now dry, and the temperature is an unbearable 653º. It is a land entirely different from our native Mars.

As yet, it seems unlikely humans will be living there any time soon. The land is scorched black, and geiger counters indicate huge levels of radiation; likely a huge blast, or some other catastrophic event, occurred sometime in its history. The air is poisoned by smoke; our 310th Century filters are only just able to keep our brave explorers alive.

But what can we expect to discover from this mission? Well, some scientists hope it will cast light upon our own hazy past. Studying samples brought back by the team later next year might provide useful starting points. Importantly, humanoid remains scatter the surface of the Earth, as if blighted by an 'apocalypse', joked one mission director. Supercarbon dating the bones tells us they are from around the year 4010. However, nothing living has yet been spotted roaming the wastelands.

The fact that our nearest neighbour is incapable of supporting life gives many religious communities hope. They believe it is proof we have come to Mars - a place manageable with a little technology - through a calculated decision by some higher power. This marks a new flagstone in the history of Mars, where we finally begin to understand our origins.

Well, it's the end of the day GMT, and I think three votes to one is pretty conclusive enough to announce the winner. Congratulations to Dualnames, and thanks to everybody else who made the competition a success.
