Oh dear, one day past the vote deadline and no official votes. I suppose in these cases the host (and in this case the hosts) decide the winner. So, Wyz and I will pick one together before this Fortnightly gos on for too long.

Two cracking entries! :)

Apparently Rachel Stevens has webbed feet. And Joe blatantly fancied Tina. Why did you ever split? :'(

What happened to him? He's radioactive! IMO the green doesn't do it any justice. The back-view sprite gives me the impression he's in for a prosthetic arm. I haven't measured it against the other views, but it looks too square and stunted.

But I like the face, it's simple yet you can see all the features.

It's your last chance for entries, as voting will commence tomorrow and last until Sunday! So, if you've decided upon entering, want to enter, or even thought about entering, then please do so while there's still a chance!

Thanks to both the entries so far, they're great! :)

That's true, Waterstones is a good bookshop. I think now that Woolies has gone WH Smith is trying to fill its place, it sells all sorts of things now. Originally Smiths was a bookshop, now it's a music/film/bookshop combined.

Excellent! It's nice to know my hosting skills haven't entirely failed. :)

Keep them coming people!

The background music works well because it doesn't fit with what you're talking about. I'm not too sure why you did it either but it's very good.

P.S: You have an enticingly sensual voice! ;)

Woops, sorry. Coupled with the fact I read it a long time ago I didn't read any of the other posts.

This reminds me of another Japanese island I read about some time ago. Hashima Island is built upon a huge coal deposit, and so it was an ideal place to site a mine.

The employers built housing on the island to domicile their workers, and Hashima Island was born, soon becoming richer and bigger. It had everything of a city - cinemas, surgeries, shops, swimming pools, if you can name it then Hashima had it. Generations grew up there which had sailed from the mainland. It was linked underground by an extensive network of tunnels. At its peak Hashima was the most densely populated city upon the world.

But Hashima stopped growing after the war and started to fall apart, after the owners announced the mine would be closed down. The workers were made redundant and so moved off Hashima, and without a community the shopkeepers, lifeguards, doctors, and usherettes moved away too.

This didn't mean it was knocked down. Still today on Hashima island is the compact city that was once thriving, although heavily dilapidated. It must be so eerie to walk through the empty and black tunnels, or visit the cold flats and offices. It's one of the few modern day ghost cities.

And for good measure here's the Earth image: :)

:-\ The swf went over my head... would somebody please enlighten me what "those people" are?

Here we go, I missed the last one for voting but I'll pick up again here. Not too sure whether the category thing applies this round but I'll use it to help me choose somebody. :)

Idea: Pinback
Pinback's idea for the background isn't clear to me, which is the idea. There seems to be a notice for selling something, and I can see a patchy balloon and an ancient clocktower. You can make anything you like out of it I guess.
Atmosphere: Pinback
Reminds me of something from a Christmas Carol or It's A Wonderful Life. The funny machine automatically gives it a fantasy aura, or maybe the rooftop is a retreat for some recluse inventor?
Composition: OneDollar
The cityscape bordered by the two trees works really well. It first draws your attention away from the trees, thus creating a subtle autumnal look.
Functionality: OneDollar
The areas are particularly well defined. While this is also true in Pinback's entry, my decision is solely on the size and positioning.

Coincidentally that seems to draw them both equal. This is a hard one, but by personal preference to the style I'll have to vote for Pinback. I would <3 to see you make a game!

Well done and good luck still, because voting is still open so anything can happen!

Fortnightly Writing Competition: Reverse Writing

Your entries will be valid: 5th Sep - 17th Sep
Your votes will be valid: 18th Sep - 20th Sep

This fortnightly only has one fundamental rule: Your entry should open with a situation (e.g Somebody being held at gunpoint, somebody being reunited with long lost relative), and then the rest of the story explains how the character(s) ended up coming to be in that situation. Entries can be any genre or style, so long as it is written as if you've plonked the final chapter at the beginning.

Entries should be in before 18th September, as voting will then start and last for two days. Trophies may be awarded although nothing has yet been arranged. :) I'm anticipating lots of great entries! The contestant with the majority of votes will have the great honour of starting the new Fortnightly.

Although perhaps the most important rule of all: Be creative!

What's the Hungry Ghost Festival? It sounds interesting.

:-\ You're a very good artist Pinback, but then again so is OneDollar... You've made it tough for me to cast my votes. :)

Congratulations Lad. But Ben, there's no need to lie to cushion the blow (so to speak), Lad's animation thrashed mine, like I asked him to. ;)

The progression through the stages is very good, especially realistically. The only thing I see is his collar on the left of the neck (his right). The colour of his neck and the colour of the collar seem too similar, which could easily be fixed by putting a darker pixel to separate it?

Also, I agree that the walkcycle in the first post is the best one I've ever seen. Excellent artwork. :)
