Hullo.

I have a small problem with running my game using 32-bit true colour. When a room loads, or a GUI appears, or you leave a room, (etc) the screen flashes white for a few seconds. Although the problem disappears after the room is loaded, it really doesn't look very nice.

What can I do to stop this happening? I know others have had this problem before, but the only similar thread didn't have any replies. Thanks. :)

Wicked graphics. I especially like the forest and Town scenes. Hopefully it will end up in a really atmospheric, engrossing game. Which I'm sure it will. :)

Idea: Misj'
He included the brochure entry, otherwise the comedy element wouldn't be there/wouldn't be as effective, and also it was an original idea.
Atmosphere: Neil Dnuma
I like the warped effect in his background, especially the trees overhanging the little house.
Design: Misj'
Once again, I'm going to have to give a category to Misj'. The angular mountain peaks in the misted distance work well. :) I'm enjoying this critique stuff.
Composition: Misj'
The layered format creates a sense of depth that stands out from the others.
Functionality: Privateer Puddin'
It would be easy to define walkable areas, and the other two entries might have some difficulty doing so. (Even though they're still good :))
Technique: Misj'
The cartoon style works well. If you'd used any other style to do that background it might not have worked properly. :-\

My category placings being almost the same as Neil's, it goes to show how everybody's is good for different reasons. If it had been just a vote, I wouldn't be able to choose.

Resonance as in the state attributed to certain molecules of having a structure that cannot adequately be represented by a single structural formula but is a composite of two or more structures of higher?

I really like the look of this game - if it can be called that. Is there a specific word to describe something with amazing graphics and seemingly enthralling plot? I suppose there is... Resonance. :)

I'll be playing this however extortionately priced it is! Nice job.

My name isn't Trihan but I'll give it a go. :)

They're is a contraction of 'they are'. So you could say: "They're coming home." or "They're very tired."
Their is the possesive: "Their car."
And there: "Is that them over there?"

When using brackets (like this), do you put the full stop outside or inside at the end of a sentence. (Like this.) or (Like this).

I've never known how to do it properly because some people do it differently. :) Thanks.

Seriously most people just vote and go - but it was helpful anyway for my entry.

They're all worth coming first, although I like Akatosh's limerick, so my vote goes to him.

Oh yes, the example I gave is for the latest version. Sorry, but I've only ever had the latest one, and don't know anything about earlier ones. Somebody else can help you though. :)

Wowee. This is good for a first game, and it sounds like a very good plot indeed. Just a question: what dimensions does it run at? The enlarged pictures wouldn't be supported by any of the available dimensions, or is it just me? Anyway, I expect you'll end up with a game as good as it sounds! :)

Well, I'm assuming you don't have any problems with entering the name or anything, so...

What you need to do is create a global variable. Go to the global variable panel and double click, then in the white box right click and add new variable. Name the new variable something like 'player_name', and change the type in the drop down box to 'String'. You don't have to bother adding a default value, unless you want the player name to be something if the user didn't enter anything. Basically, Global Variables are used like a storage tank to hold information until it's needed.

Then, in your global script under TextBox_OnActivate or whatever, put this.

Code: ags
function TextBox_OnActivate()
{
   player_name = TextBox.Text; //The variable you created, player_name, becomes whatever you entered in the input box.
   lblName.Text = TextBox.Text; //Then, the label you want to display the name shows the value of player_name.
}

This might be a clumsy way of doing things, but I think it works. I hope this helps! (and I haven't been too patronising).

I haven't heard much about the pandemic that was going to wipe out 6 billion people recently. The press will have to replace this story with another soon to encourage the sales of their papers.

It's very unlikely that anything would happen, especially since America could destroy N. Korea with the turn of a key and a press of a button. Great, now I've jinxed it. :)

Hullo.

I have a text box on a GUI. When the user clicks the enter button after they have entered their name, is there any way to count how many of a certain letter their input has? For example, how would I count how many Ls appear in their name and store that as an int using a global variable?

Thanks in advance.

So you've only done this in four days? Cool!

Good luck with your project. :)

Thank you everybody for their contributions. You've come up with some real jewels. Unfortunately, I compiled Block PAD today for the first and last time, so any thoughts after this won't be added until the next version. (If there ever is one.) But, if you're mad enough to post your thoughts they are still more than welcome. Mods, if you see fit to delete this thread then please do so.

I hope to be sharing Block PAD with you in the near future!

Thank you again for the thoughts. I'm beginning to add all of these in now, so if you want to make a contribution to Block PAD please do so sometime today.

Thank you!
