The Rumpus Room / Re: This got me thinking.

I never understood this saying because the two aren't mutually exclusive, both guns and people kill people.

kill 1 |kɪl|
verb [ with obj. ]
1 cause the death of (a person, animal, or other living thing)

The person causes the trigger to be pulled which causes the bullet to fire which causes the death. The gun and the person are both part of the chain of causation. Substitute stuff into the formula and the same can be said for anything. People toast bread by putting them into toasters that toasts the bread.

I get the purpose of the saying, but a more accurate wording is "guns kill people, but people are at the start of the chain of causation".

I haven't updated it for so long! It was down for a fair bit and I never got round to clearing the backlog. I intend to upload everything after my exams have finished, as it could take a while.

Can I use graphics created by "krysis" ?

Well, I think I've said in the past that the RoN resources could be used provided it is also an entry to the series, and everybody has access to them. Would you be using them exclusively, and in their unedited form?

Thank you Radiant! An entry that a default win doesn't do justice.

Topic: 'Sex'

This month's guidelines were set by Krazy:

This month's MAGS theme is something the adventure game scene has been lacking ever since Leisure Suit Larry dropped off the radar (Reloaded doesn't count). SEX. Your MAGS game must be centred around the idea of naughty goings on. Whether you tackle it with silly tongue in cheek innuendo, tell a gentle erotic romance story or just address it head on with as much depraved filth* as can fit into AGS is your decision. How will you incorporate this risque requirement into your story/game? It's something we'll all have to wait and see with great antici.....pation.

* Atelier note: obviously, keep it legal.

Ending 31st May

What is MAGS?

MAGS is a monthly competition for amateur adventure game makers. The idea is to create a game in under a month, following the rules set by the previous winner. It aims to help you work to a deadline, improve your skills, or provide a kick-start into making adventure games. Regardless of skill, MAGS is for everyone. Voting is based on "favorite" games, and not the most artistic, or the best coded. If you have bad art skills, use it as a chance to do some graphic work. If you're sub-standard at coding, use it as a chance to give scripting a go. Ultimately, people will vote for the most enjoyable entry.

You may get help for the competition, although you must end up doing something yourself. You should however be warned that it proves difficult to organize a big team within thirty days. You are not allowed to use material already created before this competition. Your game must be completely new! Music and sound is an exception; you can use free material that is available to the public, if you wish. Modules and templates are also allowed.

Entering MAGS is simple. First, conceptualise your game following the month's criteria (see top). Second, create your game fueled only by coffee. Finally, post your game in this thread, including:

âÅ"“ A working download link
âÅ"“ The title of your game
âÅ"“ A suitable in-game screenshot

At the end of the month, voting will begin, usually lasting for fifteen days. The winner chooses the next month's theme, and their name and game is immortalised in the MAGS Archive. For more information, please visit the Official MAGS website.

Turtles can flip themselves back over!

Ok, considering we had four entries in before the deadline, I think that original deadline should stay. Sorry to Bluke and Tomatoes - I hope we'll eventually see the (unrushed) final version!

The competition has now ended and voting is underway.

Topic: 'Shakespeare'

This month's guidelines were set by HanaIndiana:

This month's MAGS theme celebrates the 450th birthday of England's national poet & playwright, William Shakespeare.
The game should reference his work in some way (big or small), or even star the author himself.
How you reference his work is up to you. It can be dialog, characters, story, ect...

Thanks guys!

Ok, Eggie, Dmitry, Cleanic, yamipanda - how is it going? Considering we have two entries finished already, I'll give an extension if one is commonly wanted, as requested by Tomatoes.

Now I can eat and sleep again!

More efficient = lower score.
#213
This is so addictive and still can't manage to get 2048. Got to 1024 quite a few times though.

I just use left, right, down, and up when I have to. Any strategies?

Topic: 'Moustache!'

This month's guidelines were set by Hobo:

Moustache are cool, moustache are hot, sometimes serious and dramatic, sometimes silly and queer. Male or female, bird or toaster - moustache does not discriminate, everybody are welcome to enter the competition and have a moustache good time!

It would be awesome if your game would somehow revolve around a moustache plot, feature a moustache character or a moustache inventory item, but all entries with at least a hair of moustache are accepted. Either love 'em or hate 'em - this is your moustache chance of your moustache lifetime, don't miss it!

Moustache! Moustache! Moustache!

PS: All beards and other bodily hair is also welcome, but moustache is a must(ache)!

I'll be ready to make a much better game for next months competition.

I look forward to it :-D

Ok guys, just two days (including today) to finish and post your entries!
#220
I mean the scenario where an entry wins, because it has more authors which all vote for it, is probably just theoretical. I wouldn't encourage/discourage voting for yourself (there is no problem with the system as-is). It's up to the individual to decide whether they're "in it to win it", or (in most cases) whether their purpose is finishing a game, as Hana and JuaniT pointed out. This is apart from it being impossible to enforce any rule. Also, simply discouraging voting for yourself could mean less honest people have an advantage over more conscionable entrants, who would have voted for themselves otherwise; whereas if everybody has the discretion to vote for yourself, there is no problem.
