Good job Adventure Treff catching up on stuff I missed.

Thanks everyone for coming, Mark for listening to Tom & Myself's constant suggestions (laugh), Tom for venue wrangling, Drew's stream mastery and tech and everyone who exhibited, attended and gave Latency feedback. Now that Tom can potentially organise the venue for us, I hope we'll be able to organise with much notice.
Bit sad I didn't get as much time to catch up with some folks this year, but hopefully will do next year.8-)

Since someone asked me to there is now a Google calendar/ICS file for the event. If you open the ICS file on a compatible phone it will save the schedule to your phone. You can also open the google calendar html link and save just the things you want. ( save the trees etc)

Google HTML Callender:

Someone normally does and keep your fingers crossed for the live stream.

What's your main issue with variables? Are Twine/Inkle/Tyrano missing some way of manipulating them?

Most of those engines make you script it via text which I find makes me loose track, it's kind of frustrating that twine lets me branch visually with the bubbles but I can't set flags/variables that way. I remember using Games Factory as a kid which did and I miss it.
Sun dogs does look cool, Nic did a really  good job with it. It's moddable too.

Not  sure about AGS but for modern FMV games check out Her Story and Contradiction.

There's a whole community for Interactive Fiction that's very supportive. I worked on a game called Sun Dogs as a writer and that was all  Unity ( Nic the game's designer coded it all though). Inkle the guys who did 80 days have a nice tool called Inkle Writer which I like to play around with. Inform is the most powerful I think if you want to do a room/inventory based parser game, but I do prefer stuff like Twine and Inkle for ease of use. No one's really implemented variables in a way that's easy for me to use yet though it always requires some scripting which I am bad at.
I am also experimenting with Tyrano for visual novels and I find it really nice to use.

Ooh I haven't played any of those games, I shall add them to my list. I also think back then there was a concept that games were something to 'beat', and therefore to beat them they needed challenges.  I also suspect there was a massive D&D influence there with designers viewing themselves as DMs with consumers as players, can you 'win' the scenario. I think there's been a shift to completing games as opposed to beating them.

This looks interesting I like the unreal/unity style visual scripting system.

tbh I don't think automatically linking retro and adventure games is helpful actually especially if you want to do something *new*. Even with pixel art many adventure artists use colour pallettes and techniques that were not available at the time of the old games.

Your art is lovely though, let it stand on it's own and let go of retro!

I should mention the game is now out!

I believe they already said you can flip back to the original graphics which is pretty great, mainly I'm interested in commentary and audio.

Mercure is the party hotel.
#34
You may also want to search for B&Bs since those are a lot cheaper than hotels in general. Same-ish price as the Mercure is the City Stay which has a kitchenette

Interactive fiction is very healthy right now. I highly recommend 80 days if you haven't played it already.

It's all made in Unity. I didn't design any of the UI or interface though all credit for that goes to Nic Tringali whose project this is

Hi everyone, thought I'd post a bit about a ( non AGS) game I am working on as a writer. If you have any questions hurl them my way and we'd appreciate any Greenlight votes you can send our way.
Sun Dogs a trans humanist adventure
[ Mac/ Windows]

Sun Dogs is an open world text adventure set in a transhumanist future of our solar system. Play a traveler exploring the cultures, environments, and people of a strange and inhuman collection of societies. From the sun's corona to Neptune and beyond, humans have managed to adapt themselves to nearly every environment we've encountered.

As you travel, you will change. Gain new skills, collect items and alter your body with modifications. As you change, so will the world around you, the texts adapting to your character and abilities. When you die, a new body will be created for you, and your mind will continue on, nearly immortal.

I will add if anyone knows of any venues in London ( especially if you have contacts there ) let us know as a back up. I don't live in London anymore so it's hard to scout places but I can certainly look into it.

Good god I'd kill for a Wadjet Eye Dresden game  I honestly wonder if Jim Butcher would be open to it there's already a ton of comics/roleplay games by fairly small publishers.
