Day of the Tentacle
Sam & Max Hit The Road
Beneath A Steel Sky

i got all those games before i had internet access, i've been playing more games without cheating lately and feeling better for it when i finish them, but some things in adventure games are so blindingly obvious when you just put your mind to it that i like to think of using a walkthrough as something you use to disguise the smell of a brainfart...

i also completed Blade Runner without any kind of help.

other non-adventure games i've completed without cheats or help:
Unreal,
Halo,
Soul Reaver 2,
and probably a few others that i forget, i'm also very close to completing Deus Ex 2 and haven't cheated once

I like to use midi, but midi is rather limited to the GM

installing a new hard drive and then adding another as slave isn't really that easy to do with a laptop

.MOD is pretty limiting but those limitations can result in creativity, i've been making XMs in fasttracker2 since 1997, but win2k has put a stop to that now, plus the mod playback routine AGS uses isn't that good, but not many people use mod music anyway, the only games i know of that have used it is Pleurghburg: Dark Ages, and Carrot Bob in ZX Spectrum World (which i did the music for  :D)
but i have a pretty decent soundcard so i don't mind midi, hell i didn't mind midi when i had my SB16, i'm a big fan of those old retro sounds and adlib music, but then i did grow up in the 80s

can this just be a made up scene but one that uses recognisable characters from a movie - kinda like outtakes or deleted scenes or something?
for example, darth vader going to chop luke skywalker's hand off, but instead the lightsaber just hits his arm so he tries again...

well, the way i see it is that vectors are basically just pixels, some people draw their entries with tablets, or take another image and edit it, i don't see why something that was created with vectors and then converted to a flat image effectively making it a sprite should be any different from something drawn with a mouse or tablet, or a drawing scanned or traced, or even a 3D modelling app, the options to make the sprites like that are available to everyone.

i think the answer to this question can be summed up in 4 words: because they want to

i'd ignore what dell told you about all your stuff being lost, dropping a hard drive won't delete everything on it, it's more likely that something on the motherboard is broken, try connecting the hard drive up to another laptop or computer as a slave, but if it is broken there are hard drive data recovery specialists, they're not cheap though, but it might be worth it in the long run.

so, what have we learned from this?
1. Back up often, you never know what's around the corner.
2. Laptops are bad, don't use them as your main computer,Ã,  you can lose them, drop them and even perhaps accidentally sit on them.
3. Dell don't know what they're talking about.

damn, all those replies while i was writing this one...

okay, the exe isn't missing, the bat file which runs the setup programme is looking for vludwig.exe, ACWIN.exe contains the actual game, if you want to configure the game then you need to either rename to EXE or edit the bat file and point it at the EXE file, also remember this is a dos game, so if you're using win2k or xp, you might not get any sound depending on your soundcard, i have an Audigy 2ZS, no chance of me getting sound from dos apps that vmdsound doesn't support :(

i had a problem with not being able to play games for more than 10 minutes (sometimes less) a little while back, i discovered it was down to my graphics card being too powerful for it's own good, so i set the AGP speed to 4x and disabled fastwrite and everything runs fine now with absolutely no loss of quality...

is it the configuration programme that you're trying to run?
just rename ACWIN to the exe that it says it want's, or edit the configuration file.

i have an Athlon64 3400+ and right now it's temperature is 41°C/105°F, my motherboard temperature is 30°C/86°F and that's with an aluminium case and the fans, but, my graphics card temperature is 66°C and everything is still working fine, your pc will know when it's getting too hot and either sound and alarm or turn itself off.

monitors smelling as if they're about to catch fire is pretty normal for new monitors, my new pc smelled as if it was about to melt for a little while, but that's just new hardware and the smell goes after a while...
one thing to check is the temperature of your graphics card, especially if it's a decent one, my Sapphire Radeon 9800XT gets very hot, but now i just keep the sidepanel off my case and point a big fan in it.
i wouldn't worry about it, it'll probably go away or burn your house down...

could also be that he has used either soundfonts or has a really decent set of midi samples loaded into his soundcard, or even both, i have quite a nice set of samples in my Audigy 2...

yeh, that'd be a good idea, kinda like my idea of using actors instead of game characters, so like instead of using a character, you create actors and use them as the characters, i've always wanted to see that applied in commercial games, like the guy who plays Max Payne in Max Payne 2 could be in another different game as an entirely different character, i think it'd be kinda neat...

next - are you SURE this is SAFE?

the AVIs are probably big because they're not compressed, if there is an option for compression in the AVI exporter try selecting different compression codecs, also if you want them to be smaller you should search for the xvid codec (you can't get a compiled version from the main site, but there is a site that has them compiled) it will produce a smaller AVI, but the only problem with that is that anyone else that plays the game must also have the xvid codec...
i also think that VirtualDub (which you can find on http://www.oldversions.com) can convert mpeg to avi, but i'm not sure, you can also remove frames with it, so if the convertor only displays the "converted with" thing in a corner, you can just add lots of blank frames to the start of the animation, then remove them from the avi later...

i think he's trying to set this up as a competition, you animate his character and if you win HE uses it...
