that's neat Zor  :)

i think i should have said EGA style rather than AGI, i'm working loosely with the EGA palette from SCI Studio...
i'm not actually going to be using that conveyor belt type thingy, but i might put lights in the floor or something like that, or some kind of waypoint looking thingy for robots...

well, i'm basically using 45°/135°/225°/315° angles for perspective, it's only gonna be a short game so you won't have to look at it that long anyway :)
actually, the right hand side door wall does look kind of weird compared to the left, i might just mirror it...
#1103
you mean something like this?

obviously the perspective would have to be fixed, i just did this quickly...

more character views (instead of just 2 horizontal, 2 vertical and 4 diagonal) would allow more of a 3D look, then if you've made your 3D character you just have to render the frames from the required angles...

hmm, you know i might actually move the top of the windows down, or shave some pixels off the bottom, turn them into a nice wig and place them on the top of the image...
the game is actually going to be 320x240 (right now i'm drawing the backgrounds as 160x100 then pixel resizing) with a GUI at the bottom (which will just be the default GUI but changed a little), i'm not strictly sticking to the AGI palette, but i am hoping to use maybe less than 50 colours in the whole game.
it's only going to be a short 3 or 4 room game so i don't really want to spend more time than is needed on the backgrounds.
oh yeh, before i forget, here are the two main (read: only) characters, Roger Disco & Captain Smoothdaddy

wow, that's a really nice edit, those panels really do make a difference, i think i'll do my own rather than copy yours outright (althoug it is tempting  ;))
also, i am going to fill the room with more objects and maybe a walkbehind complete with pipes that don't seem to do anything that you always get on spaceships...
i'm also going to add a few animated objects to the background, perhaps even a moon orbiting the planet.
thanks for all the feedback.

yeh, well know what happened the last time an austrian guy got really pissed off...
#1108
perhaps he means the EGA version of monkey1...

the best way to get that pixelated look is working at smaller resolutions, 320x200 will look pretty pixelly, but if you work in 160x100 then pixel resize to 320x200, it'll be double pixelly.
i don't really think tutorials can teach you how to do copy a certain style, the best thing to do is get screenshots from the games with the kind of style you want and study them, perhaps even try to copy them or make something similar, that way you'll get to learn the best way to do that style that suits you, if that makes sense...

Critics' Lounge / AGI (kinda) style background

well, i'm working on this silly little game and thought i'd ask for crits on the only background i have so far...

i'm quite happy with it and don't really think i'll be changing much (i'm always open to suggestions though), i might just animate the computer screen a little and maybe add some more to the space outside.
the game is 70s themed hence the clashing colours, or atleast that's my excuse...

edit - updated version, i got rid of the green cupboard things and the the blue worktable youjamaflip, also added panels to the walls and the gold plaque

i'd love a room just full of hardware, at the moment all i have is a Yamaha CS1x which i love to pieces, next on my list is an E-Mu XK6 and perhaps a CS2x, and ofcourse, everyone needs a 303... i'm really into the older stuff which is handy, because the newer stuff is really expensive, i'd love to just stock up on old 80s synths, i love all those cheesy sounds...

C isn't great, but it's better than D,
E looks like F, but F doesn't sound like G,
H is an I, tipped on it's side,

i'd like to get paid for being on irc OR the webmaster of some porn site (hey, atleast i'm honest)...
but really, i would like to be an ideas person, you know, coming up with ideas for companies that need them, be it for advertising campaigns or games or whatever they need ideas for.
i was considering going to university to do a games design and programming course, but i can't afford to and i need a minimum of three C grade GCSEs which i probably have, but i can't for the life of me remember it was that long ago...
but right now, in reality, i'm looking for factory work because i find working hard for my money very rewarding, i would love to work in a big warehouse just lifting big heavy things around all day...
erm, yeh...

this one has me completely stumped, i would like to change the colour and if at all possible the actual graphic of a slider (for the sequel to Boyd's Music Mixer...), i couldn't actually see any proof of sprites while looking through the main ones that sliders used them and i couldn't see any kind of colour codes in any of the code, i've also read all the help file has to offer on sliders and couldn't find anything of much use there.
if anyone could give me any help with doing this it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

wow hours of fun. Would be nice to have a rock style one, with lead guitar bass and drums. Well if that was your kind of music taste.

well suited graphics aswell.

well, if you had read the text file included you'd know you can replace my sounds with your very own to create your very own mixes!  ;)
#1118
well, after much tinkering and cursing i managed to turn an idea i had into something executable, and you can get it here

be sure to read the included text file as it contains some interesting information... no, really, it does.

i'd like an adventures in How To Get Volume Sliders In The Game and Not Just The GUI So I Can Make A Little Music Mixer Game Land.....

if you just want to use the icons for like windows shortcuts or recycle bin graphics or whatever, you can just save a bmp file with the .ico extension and it'll work...
