that alphas are only lost if you save in a format which doesn't support them

alpha channels are located under the "Masks" menu, any layer that has/is being used as a mask will have have a little mask icon next to the name in the layer palette

i usually don't skip speech unless it's something i've already heard, or if the character speaks in a really annoying way (like that bouncer guy in Fatman), but if the voice acting is good and suits the characters, like in Grim Fandango then i don't skip it, no matter how many times i've played the game...

"Collette and Steve are fugitives on the lamb in Europe *someone* is always happy. I hope she isn't dangerous"

"Larry's the one with long hair"

"Peter, Rich, Brian, Moto(?). Brothers of the scalp."

"Chaz was scanboy. Anson looks like his bro"

"Michele watches too much M.P."

i can't really make out the rest...

he looks as if he's moonwalking, you should make his feet leave the ground so it looks less like he's sliding along the ground, and perhaps reverse the frames so it doesn't look like he's going backwards

i really hope they don't make it 3D but instead get Dave Gibbons back to do some hi-res backgrounds (well, i suppose they could be made 3D with the right kind of tools but meh)...
there was talk of a BASS2 shortly after BASS was completed, it might have worked back then, but now revolution will have to work pretty damn hard to make a game that lives up to the original, i think a prequal might work better than a sequal, that way they don't end up rubbishing the original's storyline

actually, i think that one is a midi-thru cable, it allows you to connect or daisy chain one or more additional midi devices, so you do actually need a cable like the one i have, they are pretty cheap to buy new but you could give ebay a try...

Critics' Lounge / Re:Tips on voice recording?
Mon 15/03/2004 03:08:17
i was watching this programme on tv once about amateur film making, and one tip they had for recording voice overs was to make a soundproof box thingy, i think how they made it was by getting a large-ish cardboard box and attaching some empty cardboard egg cartons to the sides then placing the microphone inside it, when you want to record you put your face inside it...
you probably wouldn't even need the egg cartons if the box was thick enough, although you might end up with a bit of reverb

is this the kind you have?

i think those kind of cables are better suited for professional soundcards

this is the cable i have (the site i bought it from lists it as a Multimedia Cable)

#1210
the midi cable should plug in to your soundcard, the midi cable i have has the midi plug on one end to plug into the soundcard, an extension so you can plug another midi device (or joystick) to the pc, and on the other end there's a midi-in and midi-out cable that you connect to the midi device.
you can also get midi cables that connect to a com port.
have you got a picture of the cable you bought?

here's my entry, it's a 54 second long loop (although i suppose in reality a loop is an infinite amount of seconds long), you might have to load it up in a sound editor and remove the teeny weeny little bit of silence at the begging that the mp3 conversion seems to have added to make it loop properly, it's short because i didn't want it to get too complicated or too large, it comes in at around 860kb and i think it does the job pretty well in minimal kind of way...

it's also known as Out Of This World.

also, i'd like to point you in the direction of http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=5295 from which i have extracted the following sentence.

NEW RULE!
I am implementing a brand new rule. ONLY post a topic asking for team members for a game if you include one or more of the following; screenshots, example of your work, storyline/synopsis of the game, music etc.

Otherwise, use the Classified (ACR) thread if you do not have anything to show just yet.

FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN YOUR THREAD BEING DELETED WITHOUT WARNING. Keep our forum tidy. And don't be such a n00b!

Why? Because we get it all the time. People get frustrated when you clutter up the forum when there's a thread especially for asking for team members, etc. Also, many people will not choose to join a project they know nothing about. Think first! Vomit later.

if a girl's really talented she'll be able to swallow and not get any in her mouth at all...
might lead to throat cancer though.
