yeh but Andail, Legolas was an elf. He also walks on top of the snow whereas everyone else just goes through it (which I didn't actually notice until watching the extras on the dvd), elves are magic like that, but if you want to get into realistic physics then you should really start with the mamakil, a creature that large would require HUGE legs, but that's why it's fantasy and not real life.
but, LoTR is actually a good example of using models whenever you can rather than relying on CGI for everything.

i think the thing with CGI is that you have to spend just the right amount of money on it, too little and it looks crap, too much and it looks like highly polished crap.
my favourite CGI work is that of Flight of the Navigator (a 20 year old movie) and the LoTR trilogy, but i really do prefer puppet/model work which is sorta making a comback, a lot of stuff in Terminator 3 was models, including both terminator's endoskeletons which were built to scale. puppets and models look more realistic because they are actually in the scene being affected by the actual lighting and casting proper shadows.

new room started due to no moderators being around http://www.stickam.com/member/loadChatRoom.do?roomId=555261

not to sound ungrateful to those starting the new rooms, but before they do can they make sure they will be around for quite a while to create moderators (i usually make all the forum members mods and leave the randoms and regular non-forum visitors as they are). thanks.

the whole idea of a competition exclusively for beginners is, in my opinion, really stupid.
not all beginners are of the same level and there's absolutely no way to enforce any rule excluding people who you deem to not be beginners from entering, and you can't even go on how long somebody has been a member either. i've been a member of the forums for 5 years now and i still consider myself a beginner due to my scripting ability being rather terrible, but perhaps it's better than that of somebody who has only been around for 6 months or so, or less than somebody who has been here for 2 months but has a better grasp of scripting... you see where i'm going with this? and it doesn't just apply to scripting either.
the current MAGS is non-exclusive so that anyone can enter, the only possible reason beginners may want their own competition is so that their "terrible" games stand a chance of winning, and that's a really petty reason. PLUS nobody is stopping anyone from following the MAGS rules and NOT entering it, in fact i think taking the MAGS rules and trying to make a game is a good thing for beginners to do as it means they don't have to come up with an overly original idea of their own.

i'm sure this has come up before; he seemingly disappeared years ago and nobody has heard from him, i think he was supposed to be moving in with another AGSer but never showed up on the day, or something...

i use a combination of Paint Shop Pro 7 and Animation Shop, i just do all the frames for an animation in PSP as layers, save as a PSP file and when you load it in animation shop each layer becomes a frame which is rather handy.
also, mspaint and occasionally dpaint2 (or if i'm feeling funny i'll load up dpaint4 in an amiga emulator).
i'd like to try Pro Motion, but i'd want all the features and i don't really feel as though it's worth paying for the full version (or even the lite) when i've already paid for PSP7 and it basically has all the features i use on a regular basis, but ProgZmax pretty much swears by Pro Motion and he's awesome so i really should try it out more (as i've just realised that i have actually used the trial version and remember it feeling strangely similar to dpaint but different enough for it to feel weird...)

minimi can you please act a bit more maturely towards the female visitors of the chat room in future, or just not come on when you're 'stoned' ?

strange how the most liked ones seem to be from the 2D age :P
one thing i really love about the 2D RTS games (and 2D dimetric/isometric games in general) is zooming into screenshots to see the amount of detail on everything which disappeared with the early 3D attempts when instead we got blocky units and structures with lo-res textures.

STFU...

i'm quite a fan of RTS but i tend to be absolute crap at them, my favourites back in the day were WarCraft 2, Dune 2 (and more recently Dune 2000), and i enjoyed what i played of Emperor - Battle for Dune.
I played a few missions of C&C3 but i found it got a bit difficult a few missions in, moreso than the previous C&C games (or perhaps that is because i really am crap).
