DS looks very promising for adventure games, but the screens are 256x192 and I'm not sure how good scaling down will look.  Perhaps Nergal meant actually drawing and writing your games for DS?  I don't know how powerful the DS is, are AGS games capable of running?

The cheapness of making and running homebrew on DS is exciting though.  I might give it a try in the summer, when I've actually learnt C++ ::)

scaling wouldn't be an issue if instead of resizing you just make any room scroll when you move the stylus over to an edge or corner, or use the d-pad for scrolling the view.
it would be a much better alternative.

i meant screensaver settings on the monitor itself, i've never dealth with an LCD monitor before so i don't know if they have those options built in.
#383
it's not a screensaver or energy saving thing is it?
do you have it setup as the primary display in the graphics card settings?

I would just buy these. If I had the money. And if I wasn't trying to save up money so I can move out of my parent's house.

yeh but if you had your own house you wouldn't need headphones :P

Oh btw, MAtt,

Keep in mind to tell your mate that open headphones, or even semi-open are NOT for recording since they leak quite a bit of sound, and especially the open (which are most diserable to have flat response) can even be used as crappy laptop speakers. They can sound quite loud, without wearing them. This of course does not mean that the sound in the ears is loud.

Another thing to keep in mind, before buying is the comfort factor. With such good headphones chances are that your mate might wear them for plenty of hours. He should probably try them out in HIS head before buying.

eh, isn't that kind of what i said in my post?  :P

personally i'd buy these http://www.millennium-music.co.uk/home/products.pl?ProductCode=DIREXTREMEISO&mode=detail&subcategory_id=HEADPHONES because they just look totally awesome and you really can't beat isolating headphones for quality sound.
the thing i really like about those HD 555s though is the exchangable components, i've had my IXOS MoS dj1003 headphones (which i paid £80 for at the time) for years and they're falling apart, and years of constant use and sweating has left them not so... fragrant  :-X
but that headband does look kind of uncomfortable with no visible padding, and if you're going to be using headphones alot then comfort is just as important as audio quality.

yarr tis a picture of picturey proportions

there isn't actually fog in my room, i just had to play about with brightness and contrast to make the picture visible.

have you tried just taking a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animated_series and clicking every link that sounds familiar?
#389
i recall an animated series that was like Transformers, which i think was called Mutronics or something similar, the only search result on imdb i got was Guyver though. and i can't really remember much more about it than the name which i might not have even got right.
edit: could it be Robotech? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robotech

when we moved house i kept meaning to empty a bottle of bubble bath or cheap shampoo into the toilet cistern so that it flooded the house with bubbles, but i never got round to it :(
one thing i would like to do though is vandalise somebody's toilet by cutting out part of the ballcock and filling it with alka-seltzer, then find a good spot to drill a few holes in it so it starts taking in water when the toilet is flushed resulting in lots of foam :D

colour cycling wouldn't be very good for this purpose as it repeatedly cycles the colours with no way to control the speed (it cycles way too fast) other than by setting the actual game speed itself which will slow everything else down, it also gets blocked by other scripts.
i'm no AGS expert but i'd reckon the best way to do it is by using RawDraw.
also, i believe that there was another electronics game that used rawdraw to show wires on a circuit board a few years ago also for educational use, i've never tried it out myself but it might be worth searching for it and contacting the author for advice.

would your mum disown you if she saw it?
if your family will think less of you because your house is a mess than screw them, if you think your family will think less of you just because your hallway is a bit of a mess then you're a little too house proud.
i don't know much about laying carpets, but if you got them ready cut so they just need to be laid then you could probably do it yourself quite easily.
also, don't you think it's kinda a little bit silly getting your house all looking nice just before a party? if i were you i'd ban red wine, coke and anything else that isn't clear.

i'm against Xmas purely because i think it's lazy and stupid (i'm a total atheist by the way) plus X is often referred to as 'cross' so Xmas just looks like it's a time of year when people just get quite angry (which is actually pretty true anyway :P), so i tend to avoid using Xmas, although i am quite blatantly using it in my avatar, but it's more of a pun thing as it usually says DGAS... yeh.
but really, who actually gives a shift apart from people nobody listens to anyway?
screw em.

For the record, I have nothing against lo res, I think it gives a very charming look and feel that most often trumps hi res counterparts for various reasons. However, it doesn't work with the more classical form of animated character art I go for, which is why it's not a matter of simply scaling down, as you just end up with a bunch of indistinguishable blurry pixels).

well to be perfectly fair the competition isn't just for you to enter, it's for everyone, you're acting like the lo-res limit was deliberately put in place to stop you from entering, when in actual fact it was just to give that retro feel that suits the genre of games listed.
your way of thinking could apply to all the competitions on the forums, i mean i'd prefer it if the tune contest was always relevant to my own musical talents. the same way in which somebody who is good at making horror games would prefer MAGS to suit them all the time, but variety is the spice of life and the competitions would get very boring very quickly if the guidelines were just the same each time.

I hope it'll be out soon. No game has taken so long time to make, and no game has proven itsself worth even 3-year delay (except HL2), not to speak about longer time.

i dunno, Prey was pretty good and that was first announced in like 98, although work on that did stop completely and then it got picked up again and actually released, but i think that's a good thing as it probably wouldn't have worked so well back then.
personally i don't think HL2 was worth the delay, and you have to remember that game saw a lot of changes after the source leak, i'm not saying it's not a brilliant game, it just didn't deliver a lot of what it promised to, but then neither did Stalker which also was in development for years but still turned out okay.
i think you do have to kind of admire 3D Realms taking so long and just telling everyone to stfu, it's their game and they want it to be the best it can be so they're not going to rush it just to keep fans and publishers happy, the former of which would just complain if the game was half arsed and then say they should have spent more time on it (come on, how many times do we all think that?).
but it does now mean the game will have to be awesome, and a lot of good games have come out in the time it's taken them to make duke forever (not to mention new hardware developments and the consoles to consider), and i suppose they probably want to equal or better most of them, we'd be pretty disappointed if they didn't and would just start waving our comparison sticks.
i for one am and have always been tremendously excited about this game since the early trailers/teasers and would happily wait longer for a game that i really will enjoy playing, even though i'm totally getting myself ready to be disappointed.

rapidshare is quite good, i even have a premium account. uploading is a little slow though, but more people will be downloading than uploading so the download speed is all that really matters, and that's good.

You don't necessarily have to stay away until 2010, just subtract your age from 2024 to find the appropriate year ;)

that would most likely add 4 years though  ;)

well AGS does have a number of sound channels each with individual volume controls, so you could play a number of looping tracks and have certain events or even player position controlling them.
it's been a while since i did anything with multiple sound channels but one thing to be aware of is that sounds do not loop seamlessly, plus remember if all your sounds are different lengths they're going to end up out of sync, which when you think about it actually will create dynamic music :P
that's the easiest way of doing it that i can think of, although i'm sure there are much better ways of doing it through advanced scripting.

i turned my PC on one morning when it was about 5°c in my room (seriously, i NEVER have the heating on) and after about a second there was a real loud pop and then no power at all.
although this did actually happen after i hadn't turned the pc on for about two months because it wouldn't turn on again after a power cut, so that was probably due more to the PSU being slightly damaged anyway, or rapid expansion of a component within the PSU due to the cold temperature (i have an aluminium case so i suspect the temperature within it was actually colder), although i doubt it.

You have a Wii? Well so do I, only it lives in my pants, and my nunchuck is far bigger and more fun than yours.

GO YOU!
