i think what you're talking about are soundfonts that take the place of midi instruments.
while the best ones aren't free there are quite a few decent free ones out there, but then you also need a player capable of using soundfonts. or it could just be you have a rubbish soundcard, the midi sounds on my card aren't too bad.
it's also possible that what you were hearing was the result of midi playing through a hardware synth or keyboard.

I look at lots and lots of pornography.  :D

i second that notion and strive to one day combine the two   ;)

it might help if you give us an idea of the year and whether it was DOS or Windows, it would make it easier to find on mobygames.

BTW, a CAPTCHA is one of those deals where you type in some distorted word to prove that you're human...but now it seems many of those methods might be crackable by computer programs.

most captcha is so crappingly unrecognisable that it's more likely you are a human if you get it wrong.

i'd ask Guybrush about Grim Fandango.

i'm looking for a way to make the character to carry on using the last walking frame it used when it stops and then resume from that frame when it starts to walk again (or some way of delaying the character stopping until it has reached a certain frame), instead of instantly returning the the standing frame.
the distance between my character's legs can be quite long around half way through the cycle and instantly going from legs far apart to side by side in an instant looks a bit odd.
a feature like this could turn into a useful module.

you did a pretty good job with this game, the backgrounds are all really nice and i like the GUI art a lot, and the music really suits it (good to see another fan of Prey btw  ;)).
you should really turn the main menu screen into a screensaver though, or compile an exe that's just that room without the text as it really is very nice to look at  :).

the way i made my old 'Music Maker' was to have sounds of the same length playing repeatedly on different sound channels with a volume slider for each one.
i have often thought of using this in a proper game to fade two music tracks in and out, specifically for if you go from standing outside of a disco to going inside of it, i'd have the music that played outside of the building sound like it would do and then have it play normally inside but from the exact same position, but i never got round to using it.

if i remember right LGM once created a thread about techniques to colour a greyscale image, it's probably still lurking about the forums somewhere.

General Discussion / Re: Smoking ban UK

this thread got me thinking, there are all these adverts about giving up smoking, and the health risks, but there is no real strong campaign preventing people from smoking in the first place (surely starting to smoke is a lot harder than giving up), something like this aimed at young children would be ideal although i think kids who grow up around parents who smoke around their children (which in my opinion should be made illegal as they don't really have a choice in the matter, whereas anyone going to a pub or club does) are far more likely to smoke because by the time they're teenagers they're pretty much already addicted to nicotine without even having lit up once.
four members of my family recently gave up smoking and found it quite easy due to the fact they wanted to give up, i think many smokers just make excuses not to and convince themselves beforehand that it's going to be impossible for them.
but for me this ban is semi-pointless and creates a worse problem, which is people smoking in the streets, the other day in town i had a bloke standing next to me at the traffic lights smoking away, and then later a group of young girls walked past me blowing their smoke around. i would much rather smoking was limited to certain indoor areas than done outside.

i'm not sure if games really do relieve stress for me (sometimes they actually cause it), they just entertain me long enough so that i forget about being stressed.
but what exactly do kids have to be stressed about these days?
i know when i was a teenager the main thing stressing me out was school and it has had a long lasting effect on my mental health. my parents never put any pressure on me to make up for their failings in life by doing well in school so they could boast to friends at dinner parties or anything, but still i found it stressful, i can't imagine how stressful it is for people with pushy parents like that.
so taking that into consideration maybe there is something to the parenting issue that InCreator brought up, plenty of people who have had tough upbringings end up doing rather psychotic things (such as Ed Gein to name but one), plus some people are just born bad.
it's just that videogames are very widespread these days and are an easy catalyst for people to blame along with other things such as heavy metal music which people either don't understand or just plain dislike and try to force their opinions on other people.
it's all just very silly.

i'm pretty sure that megagames used to have a savegame section, but it's not there anymore.
a quick google search shows a few sites with savegame sections but there doesn't seem to be any sites created specifically for them.
and i'd be happier using a walkthrough too, unless i had already played the game some of the way through and just wanted to continue from where i left off.

Singles has nicer features than just nudity, such as the AI remembering schedules, like if you keep making a single take a bath each day at 8pm after a few in-game days they'll remember and do it automatically, but they'll also remember if you change it so they take a shower instead on a thursday at 6pm, which is pretty neat.
i also like the way you have to actually develop a relationship by talking about the other person's interests rather than just talking to them.
i'm hoping they add difficulty levels to The Sims 3 so that kids can play the basic game and adults can play a more advanced version, it would be fun.

that's just the thing though, Obi really is a big fan of Lionel Richie. he's even been making family and friends Lionel Richie themed greetings cards.
i was actually speaking to Obi at the time that Lionel passed away, unfortunately he had been playing the game at the fastest speed and not taking notice of his status bars and unfortunately it seems as though he starved to death.

there's a mexican place in Freeport which i think is called Chimi Changa's or something but i've never been there, it's next to a great chinese place that do all you can eat :D
i'm pretty sure there's a train straight from london to Freeport too.

why not just have a crosshair-cum-reticule type thing that you see in all types of action games these days?
it could be white or non-animated when not over something interactable, and red or start rotating when over a hotspot/item/character.
