i find using Opera and a good amount of common sense have kept me and my pc free up spyware, malware, adware and viruses for over 3 years now.
in my opinion all the security software in the world doesn't make up for knowing how to use a computer properly and safely.

i think there's a big difference between liking what you like and bi/homosexuality, i mean when you watch 'normal' porn you're still seeing a man naked, and it's the female stimulating the penis (usually) that you find erotic and not just the fact that the woman is naked and you can see her bits (which is why some people find lesbian porn very boring). so the penis plays a very big part in arousal, and shemale/gay porn is pretty much all about the wang and the breasts are there for decoration.
if you actively want to have a sexual experience with another male, be they transsexual or otherwise, then i'd say you probably are bi-curious. if you've done it, enjoyed it and still find women attractive then you're most likely bisexual. if you just like to fap over ladyboys then you have a fetish.
i think there's always an element of curiousity with most things though, and it doesn't always mean anything, people are just very quick to slap a label on something and class it as being unnatural, weird or down right disgusting.
i'd say you're just a normal teenage boy with a working penis and internet connection.

peter kay is a nob.
but i'd spend the day with Jean Reno, because he's not a nob, he's cool.

i wouldn't recommend rubbing anything inside your pc with any kind of fabric unless you know it won't generate any static electricity, and always remember to de-static yourself before touching anything inside.
the best way to deal with dust inside a pc is to use a can of compressed air, although fans can just be removed and wiped.

actually, it could be a loose connector causing a weak flow of electricity to the drive, or even a break in the cable.
it could also be that the IDE ribbon (or SATA cable if it's a SATA drive) could also be loose or faulty (i had pretty much the exact same problem back in 1996 when a cable burned out, sometimes the hard drive would show up but most of the time it wouldn't).
also, your sister's files are probably still on the hard drive somewhere, just do an admin login and search for them if she knows the file names. and if you know your pc is going to act strange like that then you really should be making backups anyway. best thing to do to repair it is take it to a specialist instead of asking on these forums, even a forum that specialises in hardware faults wouldn't be able to help you much if you don't know what you're doing.

General Discussion / Re: Latin translators?

if you're that interested in Latin then why not learn it?
there are plenty of books that could help and many of the 'learn a new language' companies have packages for Latin.

nothing makes up for the delay, Batillier has been active on the forums and the last thing he said before when somebody pointed out he was late judging was that he was going to work on reviewing the entries and if it was the detailed review that caused it i would rather of not had it. a new tune contest should have been started and ended by now.

i really love Oz's track (especially the bassline) and it goes brilliantly with the picture.
so my vote goes to Oz.

this is really ridiculous, the guy has been active on the forums lately but seems to just be ignoring the thread and i doubt that based on how he's hosted this one he'll ever be chosen to be the winner of any other competitions.
so i think it's up to us to decide a winner ourselves.

yeh only that wasn't a real butcher, and the cow didn't actually get shot. it wasn't even a real shotgun. oh, and the movie is set in america and not canada. plus, you know, it's just a movie.
but apart from that you're SO right. :D
#471
wtf is an adventure game?
#472
well they probably want to identify the butcher so he can confirm whether or not he employed them go shoot his cows (you'd have to be pretty dumb yourself to have not worked that out  ;))
it probably was just an accident, guns don't have any way of telling whether you meant to pull the trigger or not, they just wanna shoot shit.

Why would they salvage the cow and not the butcher?

because they weren't shooting the butcher  :P
#474
they've obviously been playing too much doom :)

i didn't think it was an issue of the bios not detecting it but windows itself, the last time i did a clean install the pc knew the hard drive was there but windows didn't so i had to make a drivers disk as the motherboard (Asus K8V SE Deluxe) didn't come with one. newer editions of windows probably don't have that problem though, i'm running Win2k which i bought in 2004, but i think the disc was printed in 2003 and i think the motherboard was pretty new at the time.
SATA is still a pain in the arse though.
#476
you need to preload some SATA drivers (i know this is the case when installing a new OS because it happened to me), your motherboard should have a floppy disk with them on, if not you'll have to download some and stick them on a floppy.
have you actually installed windows on the disk already, or did you just copy it across from the other pc? the latter probably won't have copied the boot table across, and the former would be why the pc doesn't boot.
you also have to go into the bios and set the SATA as the master drive, and also set the jumper configuration on any other hard drive you'll be keeping in the pc to the slave configuration (or just completely remove the little plastic jumper to set it to default as slave). also, if your sister's pc is ancient it probably has a version of windows that doesn't support NTFS, so if the drive you're going to put in there is NTFS then it won't work.
SATA hard drives are a real pain in the arse, you also won't get the blinking LED when there is hard drive access due to the nature of the SATA connection.

okay, this "guns don't kill people, people kill people" thing has been said before, nobody is saying that guns are the only way to kill people, we all know that if somebody is determined to kill somebody they'll find a way to do it, but a gun makes it easier for both them AND people who hadn't actually planned anything to kill somebody.
and how many of the kids at columbine were actually killed, or even badly hurt by one of those 'improvised' weapons?
i haven't actually looked at any statistics but how many people in america are killed by guns compared to other weapons? i bet those stats would show a hell of a lot more people are shot each year than stabbed, purposefully poisoned, or blown up by a homemade bomb (i'm willing to bet more people are pushed down stairs and killed than by bombs of any kind).

I'm also someone who doesn't understand the concept that the removal of guns will magically fix things or somehow make them better.  In the absence of guns people will use other implements to get the job done if their intentions are to kill.  This is something you simply have to accept as a fact of life: if someone wants to kill people they WILL try.

Well yeh, if somebody is planning on killing people they always will find away, from my limited knowledge of serial killers i know that most don't actually use guns or sometimes even weapons to murder their victims, but those are extreme cases and serial killers aren't very common.
BUT, a gun does make it easier to kill somebody in the heat of the moment, like if somebody were to make you really angry either by taunting or physical violence and you had a gun you could quite easily pull it on them and either intentionally or accidentally shoot them, or be drawn into a firefight if that person is also armed.
I don't really think anyone is trying to say that a ban on guns will stop people killing eachother because it's mankind's favourite pasttime, war has been around a lot longer than gunpowder has. but it could lead to a decrease in the number of gun related accidents (like the incident of the young boy shooting and killing a classmate featured in BfC), heat of the moment shootings during arguments, and people just snapping one day and shooting a person they have trouble with (i remember seeing something about an old guy who had been having problems with a family in his neighbourhood and their teenage son walking along his lawn when he had repeatedly asked him not to who just one day had enough and shot the kid in the head).
Yes, people could go running around with a sword attacking people, but the people would have a better chance of running away and avoid being struck, something that just can't be done very easily with bullets.
I know the problem is going to go away over night if guns were banned or heavily restricted (it should be illegal to keep a gun in a place where somebody could easily take it, like a drawer or in a box in your wardrobe), but nobody seems willing to give it a try, are there any states or even just cities in america in which guns are illegal? i know there is atleast one (with a silly name if i remember rightly) where it's illegal to not have a gun if you're over the age of 12 or something ludicrous like that, but it's probably one of those hick towns where gun ownership is high but actual gun use is low).

didn't Wal-Mart stop selling handguns and semi-automatic whatnots (and ammo?) due the actions of Michael Moore and his 'Bowling for Columbine' documentary on the basis that handguns and machine guns don't serve any purpose whereas rifles and shotguns are use for hunting and sport?
and, although i am not 100% sure about this, isn't this the first really bad school shooting in america since Columbine in 1999? if it is then that's 8 years without a major incident at a school, now who's to say whether or not that could be down to Wal-Mart's decision to lower the choice of firearms available legally at their stores?
it would definitely be interesting to get hold of the gun crime statistics from 1990 to 2006 and compare the first 8 years to the second...
#480
well it wouldn't actually hurt to try now would it?
and you seem to have overlooked the fact that rat poison, pesticides, cutlery and cleaning products actually serve a useful purpose and are beneficial to society.
the only benefit guns have is to intimidate, frighten, injure or kill. it's what they were invented for and what they do best, whereas rat poison was designed to kill rodents, pesticides to aid crop growth, cutlery to eat with and cleaning products to do as their name implies, and it's what THEY do best, it's a very silly argument that could be extended to extremely stupid lengths (a computer isn't designed to kill somebody, but if somebody were to drop one on your head from a great height it could kill you) and just ignores the real issue.
banning guns won't increase the crime rate either, in the UK it has been illegal to own a gun for about ten years (ever since a school shooting in fact, in which the victims were 4 year olds), and even before then there was less gun crime. ofcourse there is now a black market (and i suspect there was when they weren't illegal, and the same applies as much to america as any other country in which just because something is legal doesn't mean it will always be purchases legally), but gun crime is still relatively low, it's mostly criminals with guns killing other criminals with guns with very few innocent casualties.
so maybe that does point somewhat in the direction of another cause for all the gun crime, perhaps like you said it could be violent tendencies (but i don't believe there is a person on earth who isn't prone to violent behaviour), but that alone won't get somebody shot, perhaps hurt but with a fighting chance of defending yourself, or at the worst stabbed.
but anyway, i'm talking about the bigger problem of shootings and not just this one case, sure the guy could have found some other way to commit the crime but a gun required less effort.
i suppose the real irony in my argument is the fact that all the people killed in school shootings are unarmed students and teachers who could have perhaps defended themselves and stopped the killings sooner if the second ammendment also applied to schools.
