i have the dvd edition of the game but not XP, i'm installing it on my old win98 machine now so i can get list of folders/files that might help you do a manual install.
one thing you could try in the meantime is to copy the setup folder to your hard disk and see if you can install it from there.
---
okay, i'm not entirely sure you'd be able to do a manual installation as there seems to be a few files created during the install that do not exist on the disc.

a recent version of winamp should do it, or there's VLC Media Player (www.videolan.org)

the P3N1S award is like all the other nominations and votes; it is based on individual personal opinion of either the game and/or it's content, or of the people involved in making it.
so you may like a game but you don't like the person that made it, so you might nominate it for that award.
i think the reason it most likely got nominated for it is due to the price tag and not just the fact that it had one.

There is nothing that requires you to open any ports. The "adware/spyware crap" that you talk about, are subtle ads by companies on ingame billboards. None of the ads, whatsoever, are installed on your computer. The only thing they do, is that they check your IP address and show you advertisement in your language.

that doesn't make it any less crap or any less intrusive, EA make enough money without needing to advertise to people who are too busy shooting eachother to even notice them. it should have been an optional install.

i'm anti-BF2142 because of all the adware/spyware crap that requires you open thousands of ports and keep them open (although there is a way to get round it).
and BF2 was never really as good as BF1942, especially with the Pirates mod.

General Discussion / Re: Help! Video Cards!

if the PC is only six months old then it will most definitely have support for 8x AGP (the fastest AGP speed available) and you'll notice a really great increase in performance, i believe the 9550 is also a DirectX 9 card whereas the MX440 does not support even DirectX 8 (John Carmack warned people off of buying the MX440 prior to the release of Doom 3). you should atleast try it out, it's not as if you're spoiled for choice when it comes to AGP cards these days, with the advent of PCI Express, top performance AGP cards are no longer made and the best performing ones are extremely expensive (i bought a GeForce 6800GT 256mb about 18 months ago on sale for £80, they now cost around £160 and are very hard to find, and it's bigger brother the 6800 Ultra is impossible to find and i hate to imagine how much it would cost brand new).

edit:
here are the specs for the 9550 http://ati.amd.com/products/radeon9550/specs.html
and here is the wikipedia article for the MX series GF4 cards http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_4MX#GeForce4_MX

compared to the GF4 MX440 (which i use in another pc and is basically a GeForce2...) that card is very powerful...
but it may not be any use to you. if you have an mx440 i'm guessing your pc is a bit old and may not support the AGP speed you have. i have a 9600XT in this pc and i'm pretty sure the minimum AGP speed for it is 4x.
but yeh, if your pc does support it then it'll be a great step up from your old card.

hoorah, from my immediate family i got:
Lord of the Rings extended trilogy dvd boxset (best thing my sister has ever got me),
Eragon for PS2 (my mum just bought a random game),
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland for PS2,
novelty 'yeti feet' slippers,
Davidoff Cool Water shower gel and aftershave,
and a nice black leather jacket.
also getting £100 to spend on stuff.

from lesser relations i got:
4 pairs of socks (from FIVE different VERY CHEAP people),
a brown long sleeve shirt thing with matching cardigan type thing that i don't understand how to wear,
Lego Star Wars for PS2 (even though i ASKED for Lego Star Wars 2 and my nan told my mum over the phone that it WAS Lego Star Wars 2, but grandparents wouldn't be grandparents if they didn't get you the wrong game but atleast it's for a console i own),
and a nice bottle of Southern Comfort, all of which i hope to be drinking on new year's eve.

this is my main PC, that white stuff on the mouse is the imprint of my hand...

this is my "consoles & cans" area where i keep my Xbox, PS2, empty cans, router and external hard drive, and anything else i can get on it.

this is my old pc area with a slight glimpse of where i spend my sleeping life. the orange blob is a boiled sweet i left on the desk one day that kinda melted. this is also where i store most of my dvd collection.

it's a lot easier than using code to do it, it's in the properties for when you create a new character.

www.cybercandy.co.uk have mountain dew fairly cheap.
i've emailed them before about getting imported cereal, but i never got a reply.

there's a "create seamless pattern" function under "Selections", you just have to make the texture a little bigger than you need it (like 300x300 for what will be a 256x256 texture), select an area the size you actually do want it and then use that function.

one of the main reasons i wanted to get a digital camera was to take pictures of the sky, i tried a few times but never really quite got the hang of it, although my attempts at it were through my bedroom window.
i prefer your original boat image to the photoshopped one. the edit just looks too fake, the sky would have to be more red to make those red clouds believable.
i really like the shallow water photo.
i've actually found that i have a much harder time photographing flesh, it either turns out too shiny, too dark, too bright or very dull, never natural looking. or people just tend to end up looking very sweaty/greasy.

here are my attempts at capturing the sky, taken in october last year.

believe it or not those two pictures were taken on the same day within a few minutes of eachother at sunrise, i just angled the camera differently and as you can see, one is a lot darker than the other, and they are of the same area (if you increase the brightness/contrast you can see the outline of the houses).

General Discussion / Re: HAL Device???
Thu 30/11/2006 07:46:46
according to the site there are the minimum specs:
Windows 2000 or later.
512 MB RAM.
1.7 GHz Intel P4, AMD Athlon XP 1700+.
NVIDIA GeForce FX series or higher, ATI Radeon R300 Series, (96xx or higher.).
Direct X compatible sound device.
3 GB of free Hard Drive space.
Direct X version 9.0C.
Broadband internet connection (ADSL or better).

it's most likely something to do with your graphics card, games haven't supported the TNT2 hardware for quite a while now.
the rest of the system isn't really up to scratch either, it's always best to check minimum specs for modern games.

actually, i've been having problems running some AGS games that use 16bit colour, it usually only happens when i try run them in a window but has recently happened fullscreen too, and i know it's because i'm using a Radeon graphics card (Sapphire brand 9600XT), as it never happened when i was using an nVidia card. i also had the same thing happen a a year ago when i was using a different model Radeon. 8 and 32bit colour games work fine however.
so if you have a radeon card then it could be causing the problem.

isn't the idea to draw a new sprite, not just enter one  you already drew 2 months ago?

a ban on videogames wouldn't stop people from playing them anyway, it would just prevent them from being published, then the goverment just invents another illegal trade.
plus they can't go around to everyone's home and ask them to hand over all their videogames and remove all games from their computers.
