there seems to be a lot of copyright related questions popping up lately most of, if not all relating to the use of 'copyrighted' music.
personally i wouldn't think twice before using an excerpt or entire song that i didn't create (the same as most people might use a midi version of a song they didn't create themselves without first asking the person that made it), i'm not making any profit from the game and people wouldn't be downloading it just for the music, and unless i were to go ranting about the music used in the game on every website possible it's very unlikely that the artist nor the copyright holder will find out about it, and if they do find out the worst they'll do is ask you to remove it from the game which is stupid as they can't contact everyone that has already downloaded it and ask them to delete it.
on the other hand, if it's an unsigned artist (such as those found on mp3.com and the like) it wouldn't hurt to contact them and ask for permission to use the song saying that you'll mention them in the game, as long as the game is free and there's the chance of free publicity and getting more people downloading their stuff they probably won't mind, and if they do atleast you'll find out before you use it.
another option would be to use a placeholder midi or something and allow people to acquire the song themselves with details on how to replace the midi...

you should check out Dell, they have a small range of cheap fairly decent laptops...
or if you want to save some money you could ship your PC out to where you'll be staying seperately....

me and obi were talking about this game last night over skype and i guarantee that this game is going to be nothing short of pure awesome.
also, the reason why it looks like the horsey pics is because he drew the title screen after seeing the silly pictures of the horses with people on them :D
but i have seen a similar art/character style in some animation on tv during some programme on channel 4 about short animated movies, it's simplicity in it's most basic form.

John = Haddas :D

you could try searching for the GTA and GTA2 sprite sheets
#607
i'm pretty sure Lucas Arts would object to it being sold too...
also, if the game contains any mp3 audio (not sure if it does as i haven't played it) then isn't that also illegal?

that's fixed the problem of it repeating before the animation has finished but it's added a new problem, i now can't trigger the action again until the animation has stopped and i've had to put a delay in the last frame of the view to stop it repeating too quickly again.
one way to describe what i want to do is comparing to the use key in DOOM, pressing it will activate a switch or door once even if you keep the button pressed, but if you wanted you could keep pressing the use key which would trigger the door again even if it hadn't finished opening/closing.

i'm using on_key_press to animate a character in my game but i only want the action to happen once and not to happen again once i release the key (it's causing problems with the footstep sound being played repeatedly until the sound engine crashes)
i'm using this code in the room script

Code: ags
function on_key_press(int keycode){

Ã,  if (keycode=='UP') cEGO.Animate(0, 0,eOnce,eNoBlock);

UP isn't the actual key i'm using but the game is for OROW and i don't want to give too many hints away.

any help will be greatly appreciated

one thing that might help is if a 'tags' system like you get on blogs is introduced to the games page, so you have the game's author/uploader set a few of their own tags and then allow other people to add their own, then just have a tags list page.

erm, you only just started this contest today yet the start date is the 6th and the finish date is the 13th, how are we supposed to start 5 days prior to you announcing what the theme is?

because robots are cool even if they do inflict harm upon your danglies, which is why ninja robots are even cooler.

mine is a reference to the old channel 4 teletext computer games magazine 'Digitizer', it had various characters for different things, the ones in my avatar are 'The Snakes' and one of their catchphrases was "I Cuss You Bad", and the dude in my signature is Zombie Dave who spoke in zombie talk which meant he could get away with saying most things (until the teletext editor people realised)...

this post reminds me of a site a friend of mine told me about a while ago at http://www.freecycle.org/
he's found some pretty good stuff through it and it's all free...

well it's not as if you're going to be standing up while playing the games, it's perfectly possible to sit down and rest your arm on your lap while using the controller much like most people do with a normal controller. personally i usually sit leaning forward with my legs open, an elbow on each just above my knee to support my arms, or sometimes i'll sit back and rest the controller on my chest, it depends on how comfortable i am with the controls.
the one good thing about the controller design is that it means the console will most likely have more exclusive games due to the way they are controlled, whereas many games will get both 360 and PS3 releases (aswell as PC) as there isn't any real radically different design in the pads so the controls don't have to be adjusted that much.
and although the pictures of that FPS being controlled with that controller, the movement of which is replicated on the screen, is very impressive i can't help but feel that it could just become a fad and people will eventually want a more traditional controller.
basically i'm for AND against the controller.

i meant to fix that jump problem (think it had something to do with one of the frame's delay being set to 0), nice entry.
this is turning into more of a soundtrack/score contest than tune :P
probably not a bad idea for a comp that actually...

hmm, perhaps i should have tried that with my old PS2 instead of thumping it so hard that i rendered it incapable of even realising it had a dvd drive...

great design you say?
i present to you the PlayStation and the PlayStation 2 in all their angular boxy glory...

if that's great design i'm a barbecue lamp

the only design of Sony's that i really like is the Dual Shock/PS2 controller, it feels more natural than the other consoles with their strangely position analogue sticks.
i found the gamecube controller very uncomfortable to use and too similar to the dreamcast controller (which i guess was similar to the N64 controller), and the xbox controller has too many buttons on the front of it, instead of the black and white buttons they should have added two extra shoulder/trigger buttons...

Nintendo NG would have opened up a lot more puns not a million miles from the "wee" jokes, if you see what i mean...

well, i once made a stupid little game in which you flew around a graveyard as a dead deformed baby in a jug... i thought that was pretty original. tasteless, but original.
but to be honest there really isn't such a thing as an original game, movie or song because there are so many cliches attached to each.
a game in which you fly around an environment isn't all that original, but it's how you use it/portray it that can make it atleast slightly different from other things.
