General Discussion / Re: Computer trouble

i had a similar problem with a Win2k machine when i buggered the registry up after attempting to remove some adware, i couldn't even boot into safemode.
pulling the drive out, setting the jumper to the slave setting (so that your pc doesn't think you have two master drives and get confused about which one to boot the OS from) and shoving it in the new computer is probably the easiest way to get all the data back, you can also get USB thingers for housing IDE hard drives but the drive still has to be removed and re-configured first.

sorry, i don't seem to be able to find any backup discs with it on. it could be amongst those i sent up to scotland which are now most likely and very sadly lost forever like a lot of my other stuff.

i'd love to play EVE Online because it's just a stunning looking game. don't have the cash for the monthly subscription though.
when they come out i'd like to give Auto Assault (sort of like mad max meets transformers meets gta) and that Star Trek one a try. but really, there are too many MMOs out there and being made, James Cameron is working on one based on his new movie for crying out loud.

General Discussion / Re: Star Force
Wed 22/03/2006 21:13:11
i think if all this negativity towards StarForce continues it's going to damage it's reputation and make developers/publishers more reluctant to use it as it could damage sales.
i think these companies need to stop wasting so much money on copy protection that inevitably ends up being cracked anyway and realise that the people cracking the software are smarter than those making it...
plus consumers need piracy to keep the cost of games DOWN. yes, i said down. one of the excuses a publisher might spit in your face when faced with a question such as "what's up with these dang expensive games, yo?" is that it's down to the mafia's piracy department trying to undermine the man by spreading free or really very cheap games to all the kids so that they have enough money to keep buying drugs from the mafia.
but anyone who knows how to get to four can see that excuse is a load of old rubbish and it's actually because publishers along with certain retail outlets (such as your PC World's and Woolworths) are very greedy and want all your money. well my fellow fellows, i can get to 5 and let you know that the reason games aren't even more expensive than they are is due to piracy forcing publishers not to overcharge us.
examine the evidence if you will: Xbox 360 comes out, it's a brand new system and as such is completely secure as regards to copy protection, you just can not run pirate games on that mother. you can however buy nice shiny new games for £10 to £20 more than PS2 and Xbox games, both systems are moddable to allow you to run pirate games. once the details are released and/or some clever person comes up with a modchip for the 360 the prices will start to fall...

You live on porridge?

i live mostly on cereal and noodles, which cost 8p a packet.

Tesco value or safeway bettabuy?

And do you find you end up just like, eating them... without any water?

right now i'm just eating Morrison's and Farm Foods own brands (sadly not the Ko-Lee ones they used to sell). i've never tried eating them without water though...

if i had £10 right now i'd probably find myself an original copy of Worms United (the SoldOut version, like all their other releases, has been raped: the Ocean intro movie and scenario are missing as is the commercial video) on ebay or maybe see if i can get a good VHS copy of the movie Hawks as it's never likely to be released on dvd (warner have now deleted it from their catalogue) although i really doubt i'd get it for under a tenner, failing that i'd take a look on play.com to see what movies they have on offer.

oh wait, not true, the funniest thing yet was BOYD1981's comment.
BOYD 1981's comment? Oh, you mean that "you're hopeless and you'll never amount to anything" kind of post? the post that made me want to bash his brains in with some form of birdcage? The over-obsessed, selfish post? The one with no help or advice whatsoever? That one?

the only insult in that reply is in your mind, it was meant as a reply to what haddas said and not as an insult.
if i wanted to insult you i could have come up with something much better than that, such as poopy face or jiggly monkey, not insult your intelligence.

i took a look on ebay once to see what the average price people were selling a fully boxed copy of the amiga version of Secret of Monkey Island with the manuals and pirate wheel was. it led to me not selling it as it wasn't really that much.
i've always said that something is only worth what you're willing to pay for it, like the time i found a cd boxset on ebay that i had been after for a long time since two of the three CDs of my copy got scratched beyond playibility.
i think i got it for like £7 but i would have paid £25 or more because it was so dear to me...

wooh Rad Racer, i still have a copy of that along with the instruction manual and box. same for Burai Fighter.
but about VHS, i would kill several people for a perfect quality copy of the theatrical release of Blade Runner (the version with the narration) as my copy is a bit worn down, i want to put my external tv card to some good use and make a dvd of it.
i really love cash convertor type shops, people always seem to get rid of stuff that i want, it's a lot more personal than eBay too as you can actually look at and hold the item. i wish we had a place like that in my town, all we really have are charity shops which mostly sell clothes and books. there's some second hand shop near me but all they seem to like selling is furniture...

i personally wouldn't take any notice of a cease and desist order...

this has already been done in an episode of Dangermouse called "The Intergalactic 147", some aliens were playing a game of snooker with planets and Earth was the blue ball. DM arranged for everyone on Earth to jump at the same time so that the cueball (the moon) would miss.

what i want to know is whatever happened to Kinky Island? :P

that's the best movie ever :D

i think it's more stupid that people kinda expect big companies not to care about making a profit and just want them to give stuff away for free, and they can't see how microsoft have made using a computer easier and therefore got more people using computers which has driven down hardware prices over the years.
bill gates didn't start off as a billionaire and it's not like he made all his money by running over puppies and eating babies, he provided stuff that people wanted.
i'd much rather see an end put to EA than microsoft because they really are capitalist scum.
