well as it's technically fake and microsoft aren't gonna start charging for it then it's not really a problem.
plus googletalk is kinda crap.

it shouldn't damage it. when you feed an NTSC signal into a PAL tv the picture just ends up greyscale and perhaps, if i remember right, either shrunk or too large due to the difference in the number of scanlines and frequency.
i've no idea what would happen if was the other way around though, if i had an NTSC tv handy i'd check it out, although my guess is probably much the same.

just make your own sprites from scratch then. simple.

it's usually best not to reply to those kind of emails, if they get a response they know that email address is active.

I'd suggest Tesco Broadband. Unlimited downloads, 1.1mb speed (DSL) and all for £17.99 a month.
I think it requires a BT landline though.

EVERY dsl isp in the country does...

also, if your tv supports/is HDTV then, although i'm not quite sure about this, you may just be able to use s-video out if your tv has an input for it (my understanding of HDTV is that it works more like a monitor than a tv doing away with the NTSC/PAL divide, but i'm probably wrong), as the Sky+ box does have s-video out. plus you should check if your tv supports PAL before getting the convertor, unless ofcourse you already have which is how you know you need one... as a lot of TVs these days support both signals.

well i'm not trying to say that shadows aren't important, i just find it silly when people spend so long trying to get their shadows perfect and then you have a character which doesn't cast one and is totally uneffected by lighting.
i say until some clever chap comes up with a shadows plugin people shouldn't really worry too much about including them in backgrounds unless they're really there for a reason (such as to hide an object or character until a light is turned on).
but you're right, it is just my opinion and people should feel free to do what they want.

i'd recommend getting satellite over cable, it's mostly all the same channels and cable can act a bit shitty.
plus if you get a Sky+ box you can record up to two things at once.
but if you want broadband now i'd recommend Pipex, although all DSL ISPs are pretty much the same in this country as they all go through BT's network (and therefore require a BT phoneline), the only real differences are price, capping and the level customer service (which if you actually want makes your choice not to go with Bulldog a sensible one).
i'm with BT myself, i got their Broadband Basic package which is capped ridiculously low for a low price, but even with the over limit charges it still works out cheaper than the 30gb package, and it's 2mb.

according to their website, Bulldog Internet are bringing their 8mb service (ADSL) to your area at the end of march, it's also unlimited.
their site is here http://www.bulldogbroadband.com/index4.asp

I could always get it for PC, but i'd rather play it on my TV set than my monitor.

you could always spend the money on a new graphics card with s-video out... plus the PC version is likely to cost less.

in my opinion shadows are a waste of time in 2D adventure games with static backgrounds so it doesn't really matter whether or not certain objects cast shadows or not as the player isn't going to be casting one, just the same as his reflection probably won't show up in the mirror.
the only thing i would suggest is to perhaps make the light a bit smaller.

there are only two games i'm looking forward to this year: STALKER, Spore and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, so that's three games then. oh wait, i'm looking forward to Prey too... and UT2007...

everytime i install Norton Systemworks, which includes anti-virus, something usually goes horribly wrong and i end up having to do a re-format, or in the case of another older pc i setup recently in which the install failed i had to go through my entire registry and delete any reference to it.
but yeh, a disk scan can usually solve the mystery of missing space, especially on FAT32 drives, disk damage can also cause windows to report more free space available than there is.

i present to you Banana Slug
it's just over 3 minutes long and highly experimental, i'm not too happy with the sudden ending but i felt that i could have just kept working on it and ended up making something around 10 minutes long, which i still might do in the future...

well following the trend to try cover all the titles i thought i'd have a crack at Hide and Seek it's just under 4 minutes long, a little less experimental but just as minimalistic as Banana Slug and it kind of wanders off at the end and stops kind of abruptly (as i hardly ever finish the tracks i start i haven't quite got the hang of endings yet)...

edit:-
just to let you know i'm entering with my first tune (Banana Slug)

General Discussion / Re: DVD ripper

i use DVD Decrypter for such DVD stuff, although funnily i have never used it for illegal activities...
i used it to make a divx (combined with DVDx as it only rips the VOBs and IFOs) of my Honda "COG" commercial dvd.
it lets you choose which part of the dvd you want to rip too (main movie or extras), it's a really handy app, i plan to use it to convert all my DVDs to avi once i get myself a divx player.

Revolution could quite easily publish their own game, but they could also quite easily re-use the BS3 engine to make a sub-standard BaSS game (which i actually hope will be a prequel if it's made) and get somebody else to publish it for them?

edit: this actually reminds me of something, wasn't juncmodule working on a game using the LYNC Space sprite of Foster WITH Revolution's permission?
#697
it's not that people think they suck, it's the publishers thinking they won't sell.
#698
wee, i remember catz. i bought it because the shop didn't have dogz.
i think they got up to like version 5 and combined the two games together.
damnit, i need to get those games now!
#699
i actually really hope it doesn't get made, it'll never live up to the original.
the hand drawn comic backgrounds is one of the many things that makes BASS a great game, with today's technology they could do higher resolution 2D backgrounds and more comic styled characters, or even do it like Grim Fandango, but it will more than likely be fully 3D and the game wouldn't suit it.

well, i went ahead and did it...

edit: resized the pic, forgot it was large...
