in paintshop pro there's an option to snap things to grid, you could setup a grid the same size as your tiles (or any size you wanted) and then copy paste, it would probably take a while but you'd get it done and you can't rush perfection...
photoshop probably has a grid snapping option too but i wouldn't really know.

i'm pretty much inspired by everything i come across and every new thing i see, game i play or piece of music i listen to gives me ideas for other stuff.
sometimes if i want to do a background or character art i'll listen to a certain style of music for inspiration.
whenever i play a game i'm always looking at the architecture for ideas to use in my own maps, an example of this would be a map i did for Unreal Tournament which was based on Soul Reaver 2.
and whenever i play BaSS or watch Blade Runner i'm inspired to do something similar, and the scene in the recent Time Machine movie in which the moon was breaking up has inspired an entire game idea, as have some of the topics for various competitions on the forums.
the thing to remember is that the sub-conscious picks up on everything so i think sometimes you're unaware that you're being inspired by things you've seen or heard, there was an interesting experiment on a show Derren Brown did a while ago where he got two people in the adveristing business to come along to a studio to work on something, on the way to the place he was the two guys were taken past certain buildings in their taxi, posters, banners and lots of other stuff like that were put up along the route too which was all planned.
before they had arrived Derren had already drawn a poster for the same subject (which if i remember right was some kind of funeral home or some place for peoples' pets to live on...), he gave them a few hours to work on a design and their finished result was very similar to his, i think they had come up with the exact same slogan.
the show then went back and showed you what they had been taken past that had influenced them, it was very interesting.
so i'd say that everything influences everyone in one way or another.
but really the only things to have seemingly actively inspired me are Soul Reaver 2 (level design) and that one scene from the Time Machine, and quite possibly all the music i've listened to inspires the music i make (Crystal Method, Daft Punk and Goldfrapp seem to be my main influences right now), and the game i'm working passively working on now is inspired by all the nintendo games i've played (right down to me using the nintendo colour palette).
i think this is a very interesting topic of conversation and has definitely got me thinking...

yes but how do you disable the alarm that is connected up to the box that releases hordes of angry gnomes with jabby type objects of stabbification?

he's wearing a mask to conceal his true identity, and his arms and legs not being there is what makes him a leper...

hmm, this actually sounds like it could end up being a quid pro quo type puzzle... he'll probably want you to retrieve his favourite pair of socks from the lair of some dragon, but when you get there you discover the dragon has a cold and will only give you the socks if you get her some lemsip or something, so you'll have to travel to the local pharmacy only to discover that the bridge leading to it has been destroyed...

in the interests of bad taste i bring you... LEPER MAN!

voh beat me to it... curses!
also, how do you know the guy isn't a big adventure nut and a member of this forum?
this here thread is evidence...

well really that's no different from software piracy which isn't encouraged on the forums, while i may download the odd pc game every now and then (which i hardly ever actually play anyway) i wouldn't steal something that actually belonged to somebody that they had paid for, i have absolutely no problem with stealing from large companies like EA but i wouldn't steal from an actual person.
just imagine how pissed off you'd be if somebody swiped a copy of one of your favourite games.

BUT

if you do steal it make sure nobody is looking first.

could you not do it the way you were originally but edit the following character's sprite so that they are surrounded by lots (like maybe 50 pixels) of transparent space? that way the character would still be stuck on the one it's following but because of the added transparency it would appear to be following behind.
here's an example of what i mean:

you'd probably want to have the same amount of space again the other side for front and back views.

yeh it's the icon with red box with an arrow going into a blue box, i usually make the brush size 255 so it takes less time, unless there's some stuff that colour that i don't want to re-colour.

you don't have skype running do you?

do you know what virus it was? you could search your anti-virus software's database for it or search online to see if there's a "cure" for it, then as an added precaution backup any files you want to keep on to a cd, insert the disks they gave you and run a virus scan on them.
if there aren't that many floppy disks it's likely that the files backed up are only uninfected system files and not stuff like graphics or games.
to my knowledge there aren't any computer viruses that don't have a fix, it can take a couple of days but there is usually always a fix available for your chosen anti-virus software, and sometimes microsoft have fixes up on their site, it sounds to me like the repair shop you took the pc to don't know what they're doing.

General Discussion / Re: Smokefree Workplaces
Thu 16/02/2006 01:16:59
well apparently there are more toxins in the smoke produced from barbecuing a frankfurter than that from a cigar, but the problem with apparent facts like that is they fail to take into account that people confine that sort of activity to the outdoors and don't generally walk around carring a lit barbecue or keep a pack of 20 frankfurters which they smoke in public.
and some may argue that traffic creates harmful carbon dioxide/monoxide/fraggleroxide and other stuff but cars and buses actually benefit the public and mankind in general, and again it is kept outside and technology is changing so that emissions from exhausts are down and will continue to do so until alternatives to the combustion engine become more common whereas tobacco hasn't changed at all, the only difference i can see is that more people seem to smoke cigarettes with filters now which are only designed to protect them, and funnily enough the smoke from a cigarette with a filter makes me fill more ill and gives me a worse headache than a traditional roll-up.
and some people might argue "why not ban alcohol too?", well they already tried that a long time ago which led to bootleg gangs and more organised crime, plus there is no such thing as passive drinking and the arguments they always come up with is that it damages the kidneys and liver or people may go out, get drunk, drive home and end up killing somebody. well that's the reason that drink driving is illegal and therefore is not a regular occurence, and as for the health implications, well, some people smoke up to and over 80 cigarettes a day whereas most people only drink on special occasions and weekends, i'm not sure even the most hardened of alcoholics could drink 80 pints or even 330ml bottles of beer a day, letalone stronger alcohols.
the government aren't banning smoking outright and they aren't doing it to be spiteful, they're doing it for the benefit of the public, much like they did when the law was changed so that every car must have seatbelts in the back.

But I do have to confess that every once a month that I have visitos in my place, I don't kick them out if they try to smoke...

well that's only a few people once a month, in a pub or club it's hundreds of people all day.
if people are willing to pay to kill themselves by smoking they shouldn't complain that they might get cold or wet if they have to go outside to smoke, it's a filthy disgusting habit that should be banned completely.

General Discussion / Re: Midi Sound effects?
Wed 15/02/2006 18:05:03
some soundcards do already have sound effects banks.
if you mean like the type used in old games (i think dune 2 used them for explosions) then that isn't normal midi, it's adlib and the sounds are usually created by the card rather than being samples (FM synthesis, like the keyboards of old)...

something i found strange about the MI monkeys is that they clearly aren't  chimps as they have tails, yet he makes chimp like sounds and they are too big to be capuchin monkeys...
