i've not had any problems with steam (apart from that time it told me that i didn't have any of the games i had installed installed), but it still think it's a pile of crap and that content delivery is a BAD idea, people are going to end up paying like £10 an episode for a game that might maybe have maybe 6 episodes and be no longer than a game you can get for £27, so if you want to play the entire game that's £60 - which you have to pay by credit card which not everyone has, and they probably don't accept payments through paypal.
plus it's not a new idea, Apogee did it during the 90s.

i use FLStudio 5 (aka Fruity Loops), there's also ModPlug Tracker which can create both mod (mod/s3m/xm/it) and midi, it's also free.

I know what you mean, the "enable developer console" tickbox should be under Options>Keyboard>Advanced, but on my game there is no "Advanced" button on the keyboard menu.Ã,  Although, I've been wrong before, so I'll check again.

it's not in the game, it's in the game properties in steam, go to My Games, choose Half-Life, click Properties and then click "Set launch options..." and type all your -console related stuff there...
OR, don't cheat! :P

have you tried launching HL with the console command from within Steam itself? it's in advanced options or somewhere like that under the properties for the game. also, i'm not entirely sure about this, but i don't think you need the / before any code other than /god, also it's -dev -console
but then i bought HL before the idea for steam was fished out of the toilet bowl of bad ideas.

also, how are you starting They Hunger? there's usually a third party option on the game window for mods in steam.

But the source code from the platformerious game was never released as far as I know?

there is another game based on it called James Bond (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=406), also the download for Platformerius seems to be dead...

the reason i didn't score blackmail higher for scripting was because i wasn't sure if it was already based on the Platformerius script or not, if it wasn't and i had known i would definitely have given more points.

yeh, even i really like the idea behind OROW, and i HATE everything.
plus it fits with the ideals that were behind the creation of the QQQ (Quick Quest Qrew), only we like to do them in under an hour.

i noticed something while playing Tony Hawk's Underground 2, on the secret Aztec level up on a higher ledge near this big statue there are two piles of Grim Fandango styled skulls, nobody i recognised though.
if anyone has the pc version they might be able to take some screenshots...

heh, it took me 20 minutes to make my game...
#770
woo, i made a game.

i very much doubt your laptop will run CoD II as it doesn't even meet the bare minimum of requirements which are a 1.4GHz cpu, 512mb ram, Radeon 9200/GeForce4 and most likely needs DX9.0c, but then it shouldn't even be able to run doom 3...

how appropriate, you fight like a cow
#773
i'd say keep it vanilla, with weapons stay on

ah, the dreaded "Other" devices, you could either let it carry on with the install and see if it asks for a certain file then check for it on a site like www.driversguide.com, or if you still suspect it may be the cd drive (although if the cd drive is listed in device manager then it probably isn't), take it out of the pc and see if you get the same install wizard when XP boots.

also, i found this through google http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298837/en-us it's entitled "How to use Registry Editor to identify an unknown PCI device"

opening up control panel and going into System, Hardware and then Device Manager (or atleast that's how you do it in 2k) might shed some light on the hardware problem, there should be a device with a yellow triangle next to it.

try installing VLC Player, i think it comes with a bunch of codec stuff, you can get it from www.videolan.org, as a last resort you could try installing windows over itself, but that could lead to more problems and then a reformat really would be in order.
also try maybe rolling back your graphics card drivers.

The Hobbit, even if the book is a lot better than the stupidly short animated movie...
#780
well that's not really a solution is it.
i had similar problems a while ago when i got my modem/router, the problem seemed to stem from the router's hardware firewall conflicting with the software firewall (sygate), disabling the software firewall fixed it, but you'd probably notice if you'd bought a router lately so that probably isn't it.
the only other thing i'd suggest is make sure you're not using a proxy or some other such thing that would mask your ip.
trying it in another browser probably is the best idea to see if the problem still occurs then.

edit.
i just found this on google http://www.duxcw.com/faq/win/xp/secure.htm
and there's this long thread from the same site http://www.duxcw.com/yabbse/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=5351
