Not that this is the critic's lounge or anything, but to be more awesomed, the lo-res BGs should have their contrast upped (areas like the spokes between the wheels really show up when it is shrunk down), and some variation in the dithering between the tree and house would work wonders.

I'd do it myself, but I'm not on my usual computer currently. And this is all probably irrelevant to the actual original BGs :D.

I kinda see uoou's point, and that background is a perfect example of it :(

I quite LIKE how it looks :D
And how barefoot's backgrounds in the game s/he is making look. They may be "perspectively wrong", but at least they're all consistently wrong in the same way :D, and gives a very interesting effect. I hope it won't be changed.

I've seen many AGS games with great background art, great music, great "writing", but they were as stale and boring for me as it could get, and so formulaic, you could even see the "twists" from a mile off. And the problem is, as uoou says, the actual "concept" behind the game, the "idea" itself, receives the least attention, so even at the production stage, when all that exists is a short story blurb (that is perhaps slightly interesting), some very pretty graphics, and maybe a song or two, these games are lauded for being the next greatest thing that is approaching.

Sure, everyone makes games as a hobby, to enjoy themselves and have some fun, and they make the kind of game that they like to make, so I'm not sure exactly what can be done to "fix" it, but I guess a little discussion couldn't hurt.

Insofar as landscape goes (not a subject I think of a lot when playing adventure games), my favourite would probably be the Kyrandia series, especially in 2, I guess. It's a bit fantastical, obviously, but awesome nonetheless.

Errr....none :(

I'm not much of a commercial AGSer.

I did get the Shivah when it was free for a couple of days (although I had played it already before when it had originally been released for that MAGS competition).

At least I don't pirate them either! :P

The connection keeps timing out for me, so I can't see it, Dom.
I tried checking the google cache of the page, but that doesn't show any flash object.

The problem currently is that they look REALLY flat. As if the whole thing is just a stage, with the walls as fake-prop walls that are actually only paper thin, and this feeling is only being further strengthened by the shading.

Try mixing it up a bit so that it isn't just 3 parallel "layers" of wall, and then pick a direction from which the light comes, and stay consistent with the shading using that direction. Also, add shadows on the floor as well (where necessary)!

I see Ocean Spirit Dennis on the left on the main page :O.

He looks...bigger than I remember.

I really like this style! :D

As far as crits go, the arms should be a bit longer. Even when relaxing them (not having them straight), they come well below the crotch. Stand up straight (with a backpack if you have one around), and let your arms fall to the side, and see how far low they go.

Some may suggest getting him to bend his knees a bit, but personally, I think it is great as-is.

I know you said you are happy with the face, but those nostrils are seriously bothering me :=. They shouldn't be visible from this view. Something you could try instead (to break up the monotony) is having an extra 3-4 nose pixels on the line where the moustache is now.

Also, I quite liked the dithering attempt, and yes, different shading techniques most certainly can go together, in fact, I specifically like yours because the dithering captures the texture of the jeans in a nice way, while, for example, the face wouldn't be shaded like that.

What is up with the mast and rope? Those black anti-aliasing lines suggest that it was cut and paste from some other source, or you didn't properly separate the outlines? You should remove those.

General Discussion / Re: Movie Suggestions?

I was recently recommended Paper Moon. I was skeptical considering the source of the recommendation (I'll never doubt you again! Except your animé suggestions :P), but after watching it, I have to say it was great. Old (1970s, but filmed in black and white), but gold- I think the child actress is the youngest recipient of an Academy Award.

I'm not sure what's going on with the black fade above the tubes, but it might make more sense to have the fade follow the perspective of the room (i.e. it gets lower for the tubes further back).

Errr...uploading and showing an image from facebook is generally not a good idea. People who aren't logged in, or who don't have accounts can't see it.

And yeah, it seems very possible.

Lies.

"Your face!" is the end-all of all insult swordfighting. It has no reply except "Your mother", and who is uncouth enough to say that?

I like the ending, though:
So the princess had to hold her tongue! "Now, you're mine!" said the Ash Lad, and so he got her, and half the realm and kingdom into the bargain.

Hahahahahhahahah....interesting how lack of creativity brings such awesome superhero names: Danger man, Dangerwoman (not related), King Snake, Lady Hero, Life, Mr. Jack, Mr. Extreme, Super Animal, Super Gay, Superhero, etc.

And why are there so few superheroines? :(

As a complete noob at tabletting, who bought his first tablet, and had it be a bamboo fun, yeah, I can recommend it.

Being as I'm a complete noob, and have no idea what features I'm missing (lots of talk about tilt on these forums), it is perfect for what I do.
