I was looking for 2 pieces of software specifically. I am not even sure that either exist, though. One thing I needed was a midi-ifier - something that can convert wav, mp3, and/or ogg to midi. On a related note, what is IMUSE?
The other thing I needed, if it exists is a cracker/editter/viewer of later sierra games like KQ5 and 6, SQ4 and 5, QfG3, 4 etc. Stuff that I can use to view BGs, character animations, objects etc. Something like the Sierra equivalent of Scumm Revisited.

Ahem... 11 days a Something, not 13 (just to be geeky and smartass)

about the legs though...the back leg slippers are so dark that they seem to be an extention of the pants outline. Perhaps you can make the pant's outline a darker blue, instead of black?

the legs should not narrow so much towards the end, as it does not seem to match the side view. Also, it would like nicer if you made the legs seperately (in the front view): Right now they are part of the curve of the body. I know you said the 2 pixel outline was intentional, but in the front view, it seems to be a bit overdone and inconsistent.
Sorry for seeming so harsh, I just liked the side view, and the front view did not seem to match up to it.

Spoiler

Red for four. The reason is really funny. Because of using Qbasic for half my life, color 4 means red. However, for 7 I think green, and 3 is yellow, etc. I guess I just used red and blue alot. Blue is 1

Unfortunately, I seem to have this "cold" streak. I don't get jealous of much. So far I have not been taken advantage of for that. I generally trust my friend enough to know she would not do something to break that trust.

If you plan to go through with this, I would definitely suggest (as Redwall has) that you talk to Yahtzee. In GREAT detail. Since IF is a lot more descriptive than graphical point and click, there is a great chance that your conception of a lot of the game would be different than how it otherwise seemed. Of course, if Yahtzee agrees to let you make a game based on your own conception of the game, go ahead and let your imagination run wild.

you should smudge outwards, so that instead of circles facing inwards into the picture (as in #3), they should face outwards. Not too sure, but you could perhaps blur up the picture, or add some sort of hazy fog effect, not just at the border, but throughout the whole picture

General Discussion / Re: Best spam EVER?

I wonder if you could string up all these random nuggets of stories to make an incredible Uber-story. Where do they get these weird pieces from? I got a spam email with the "I am evil" as well. Oddly enough, it was from some fellow called "Roger".

I have never used a fountain pen in my life, how does it compare to a normal fine tip pen?

Fountain pens generally allow for neater and smoother handwriting than scratchy ballpoints and pencils. I think "fluid" is the word.

My girlfriend loves fountain pens... (I can't use them easily because I'm left handed.)
Thanks! I'll point her at that site.
I didn't know that fountain pens are hard to use for lefthanders...how odd. I seem to remember a lefthanded friend who used to write with a fountain pen, better than me. Maybe he had a lot of practice. You would think that some inventive mind would have come up with a lefthanded fountain pen.

What is the harm in it? If someone posts without any proper information or screenshots, it is usually locked or moved to the critic's lounge anyway. Where is the problem? To earn the right to post is the same as the current rules: 2 screenshots and a plot. Sure, there are all the n00bs who post with their incredible "idea", but they grow tired of it fast, and leave the thread to rot. It could then just be locked. Posting the game here is a great booster for a lot of unsure newbies. They work harder once they see that their idea is well received. I think a stronger enforcement of the current rule should just be placed, where the poster must have 2 screenshots (not the menu) and a plot, or the thread will be locked

I think the up walkcycle looks odd because his upper body is moving so little in comparison to the amount of movement in his legs. Also, he has no elbow movement, which there is in the down walkcycle. About the elbows in the down cycle, I think they are a bit too low. Also, his forearms, when he swings them, seem a little too close to his body. The whole arm should swing, not just the part below his elbows (walk with swinging arms to see what I mean)

Very interesting article. Sure, there is an irreversible trend towards games that do not solely revolve around killing and violence, but that is a long while away. Like it was said, the people who would be interested in games like Facade are not really into gaming. "Gamers" as a group seem to share the same detachment as "Computer Nerds" did in the 80s and 90s. It will be sometime for games to become as normal as, say movies. Right now there are many diverse genres of movies, something that every person could enjoy. Not so with games. One example of this is the fact that (in general), there are far fewer female gamers than male gamers.
The problem with making such unorthodox games as suggested, is that they are unlikely to make much money. Sure, alot of people will enjoy them, but the average gamer (this being some mythical 16 year old creature on the PC in the basement), would not care for it. That is also, probably the reason for the decline in adventure games. Most companies would not want to risk investing in such games. Sure, if alot more games were released that did not rely on heavy violence as a central theme, and instead had something else that was interesting, alot of people would get it. However, at the moment, these companies seem to think that that is not the way to go. There would have to be a lot more widespread advertisement of other types of games before there would be enough people willing to buy them to warrant their release. At the moment, as you can see, that is not the case. I have heard alot more about games like Doom3 and Halo2 and Half-Life2 than of "Facade". Sure it annoys me that advertisements like "A variety of guns and weapons" and "Realistic Killings" seem to sell. I for one cannot understand how having a seperate graphic for a seperate gun, in which a few variables have been changed to make it better or worse can be a selling point of a game. Sure, I enjoy such games, but their is a limit. After playing Doom and Wolfenstien (the original) and Duke Nukem 3d, I did not play many FPS until Half-Life and Halo. To me they were ALL exactly the same. You press the numbers on the top of the keyboard to get a vareity of different weapons, and shoot them primary and secondary (usually with Ctrl and Alt). There are a variety of levels that, despite different textures, end up looking exactly the same. That is the reason I dislike most FPS. There is so little innovation. Just advancements in graphics to make the violence more life-like. I mean, if you made a realistic Pacman, with a huge yellow guy eating beasts and berries, that would probably be labelled violent, and the odd canabalism incident would be blamed on it.
It is a good thing that due to the increasing variety of gamers, video games HAVE to evolve. Sure, there will always be the Action-packed, low on story-high on violence game, but the same can be said for movies. The evolution is just a matter of time, and of people giving little pushes and prods (such as this article), to move it in the right direction.
Most of the points I make are in general, I am sure there are specific instances I am wrong. I realise that I may have strayed from the original "violence" discussion, but I am sure you will forgive me.

I hope with all my hope that if Guybrush was an actual person, he would not look like that. This is more a case of the Tom Cruise guy looking like Guybrush

You mock fountain pens??!! May a conflagarations of falling cows smite ye! I myself have a monteblanc, cross and a parker!
Well...to each their own, like you said, there are freaks who are crazy about fountain pens, and then freaks that are crazy about 90's adventure games.

are you sure all your seperate sprites for the animation are lined up together? If the position of the character has even a pixel difference, it can sometimes show up as a skip
