An interesting way to distinguish them, D,but then how would you describe dialogue minimalistic games like Dropsy, or the creature portions of the critter chronicles?
#442
Errr...are you asking for critique on the idea of making a game in the same universe? Or critique on the image in the first post? It looks nice, but haven't you already asked for help with that image in another thread?

I'd also say the first one looks better, aside from the glowy windows, I don't think those work, and since you're not using AGS, and probably using some 3D engine(?) the lighting issue that would exist with characters in the scene aren't there.

I'd like to request the relatively spooky seeming Oxenfree, please!
And thanks for the hallowed giveaway :=

You saying that's NOT by Icey?! But it was on my wishlist and everything!

I'm closest to Finch subway station, so I'm able to access most places from there apparently. Probably someone more familiar could pick a place and tell me the nearest station.

This, by the way, is why Mittens is arranged six months in advance...

It doesn't have to be thornhill, that's just where I'll be staying. Donned central point would be helpful, though. I'll have to figure it how to get there once we decide.

So is it currently a meetup of me, Sylvr, Catpunter and Ryan on Tuesday evening? Am I understanding that right?

Since I'm arriving Monday at 1pm (not counting customs, getting luggage, travelling to my host, etc), it might get a little hectic, so I'd prefer Tuesday, but if Monday is more convenient for everyone else involved, I can do that too.

But it's paid for, and I'd lose all the money!

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is free on GOG.com until the 21st of September.

I actually already own this game in physical form. But a digital version can't hurt. :-D
Also on the Humble Bundle site (i.e. you'd get a steam key).

Poutine Party in Kitchener at 8am! ;-D
Errrr... would a morning meeting be more convenient for more people? :D
And I'll be based in Thornhill, so I'm not sure if that means anything for anyone else.

I could do the evening of the 29th, but probably not any time during the week.  I'm a ways outside the city. :~(
My flight out of Toronto is at 4:15pm on the 29th :(

Hello everyone!
So I've been exploring the western hemisphere, and one of my stopovers is in Toronto, where I'll be from the 25th to the 29th noon of this month. A bit of short notice, but I figured I'd meet up with and put some faces to the names of some of our illustrious AGSers. I'm not sure how many people actually are in or around Toronto at that time, so I figured a forum thread would be helpful.

I know that Catpuncher and Sylvr expressed interest. There's also Baron and Ryan Timothy who live around there? Or any other takers? :=
Since my timeframe is during the weekdays, I figured an evening meet-up would be more suitable for all the employed peoples- maybe meet up for a dinner meal or after-dinner hangout around 8 somewhere on a date that works for everyone?

Or the stupidity of the world in general. Watched "the Hitman's Bodyguard" recently and because of a bit at the start the whole movie was sort out rendered pointless to me (and then at the end where they doubled down on similar stupidity and double ruined it).
The start has some dictator at the Hague being tried for war crimes and a witness describing how the dictator came to his house and murdered his family and imprisoned him. The defence then objected because there was no evidence for that, and it was all hearsay. And the judge sustained it.
And all the while I was thinking "The guy just GAVE evidence, and it was the literal opposite of hearsay!"

Oh well, was a pretty bland movie otherwise too.

As a person who almost never replays a game, especially not just after finishing it (literally the only example where I ever did that was Bastion to see if the stuff hinted at in the end would change a new ending, but I got bored and stopped somewhere in the first level), I'm not sure there's any point to incentivising a replay of what would be almost the same experience (even with a couple minor branches here and there). If the writing is cool or the world is interesting, I'd have been going the "Look at everything" route anyhow, and if not, reading 10 variations of "this is a door" wouldn't motivate me.

Personally, for a traditional adventure game, I can't think of any meaningful achievements EXCEPT linear progress achievements, coupled with achievements for which branch of a story you took. Achievements for "You clicked the PICK UP TREE 300 times, lol!" or "You clicked TALK on every interactable in the game, congrats!" seem incredibly pointless and stupid to me, and "You solved the puzzle in 1 go/You got what you wanted in the conversation tree in 1 go/You got through the maze without dying in 1 go" achievements don't really motivate me to replay a game if I didn't get it in 1 go (they'd probably motivate achievement hunters, but those players will be doing everything to get the achievements regardless- they'd probably even click the tree 300 times).
