Ah and there's the typically harsh AGS panel rating on there too! I think I should be glad they haven't reviewed my latest game yet!
I thought 3 stars meant a very good rating?
There are a total of 1800 games in the DB (at least that is what the page numbers*number of games per page on the games page suggests). There are only 8 games with 5 stars, 64 with 4 stars, and about 320 with 3 stars.
This means that a game with 3 stars is in the top quarter of games on AGS.

As far as I see it, 8bit has fallen out of favour because the only thing AGS can do in on other colour depth is palette cycling*. It could be fun for a truly retro game but the restrictions aren't really worth the effort.

Also, 8-bit requires the game to set the screen to 256-color screen mode, which can be problematic to get to run correctly on modern systems. There is a high risk that a significant number of players either won't be able to run the game at all, or only with the colors all screwed up.
Also possible that making an 8 bit game simply doesn't work. I attempted it a couple of times (nothing more satisfying than having a fully playable, reasonable length game that could fit on a floppy if floppies still existed) with the more recent AGSes, and while I don't remember the exact sequences of problems I ran into, it did seem physically impossible. This didn't seem to be that big a problem because...nobody really makes 8 bit games.
Hopefully Scavenger will release a tutorial (and template) soon.

I've been going through it until I got to a point where I was stuck. Got me a bit annoyed, and I've not got that much patience, so eventually I looked up the solution online, and it turns out that to solve it, you have to use information that one character would find out and not have any logical way of relaying to the other. That's kind of...bad, and I quit in frustration, since I'd been focusing on one character, mostly.

I'll probably get back to it soon.

Huh...I thought I remember Yahtzee freely admitting to nabbing the music for the game from RPGMaker's music resources (with later ones done by m0ds?). I wonder who copied who :D.

Question... I bought the Humble Bundle Star Wars pack a while back and got an extra copy of KOTOR II. How to give away, please? ;) Do I click the button to redeem it on Steam and just post that code here?
That or the little gift icon next to it (will be useful for you to know which games you gifted).

Some of the older adventure games were incredibly unfair in certain respects, but I found that they all had a specific weird little ruleset they approximately adhered to.
The only point and click adventure game I remember being able to die from picking something up (that was not obviously dangerous, like a coin in water next to live cables or something) was Space Quest IV's unstable ordinance. That was evil :D.

Do 3, or have cussing in-game, but with an option to switch it off (which would turn it into "oh darn" and stuff, I guess).

I don't think this issue is worthy of a mid-game crisis. Keep on at it!

I can't believe that I still have the bigblue forum page as my homepage, yet I've stopped posting.

Nobody asked for me, but I'm still here... just not doing many games anymore (music I mean).
bigbluecup? What is that? :D
Also, I guess I just didn't know you were gone. I see you often enough on facebook, flourishing in your music, so I figure you're just as active. Kinoko showed up relatively recently trying to find a copy of her old game files, I think, I'm sure Vince still posts around (or maybe I just didn't realise he doesn't because he's on my facebook too :O), and I thought Don/Barbarian was still around as well?

It looks like he's actually playing on a PC or something, and the output is on the watch screen? Or is there something about the Galaxy Gear that I don't know?
Clicking things would be really tiresome on such a small area...

Pink Panther in Space, obviously.

Four hours is still a bit long, especially for a single movie, but there's this interesting thing:

This guy edited down the 3 movies into a single 4 hour one :D

That always seems to be a problem with doing a technologically superior prequel (like what also happened to the Star Wars prequels).
They wanted to top all the bombasticky stuff they did in LotR over 10 years ago, and they had technology and funding and such to do it.
Unfortunately, the story they were trying to fit it all into didn't really have place for it, and it all seems very out of place when LotR is taken into consideration.

So you had hilarious stuff like Battle Pigs (although I thought the Battle Goats were way more hilarious), and Legolas dancing about falling masonry, defying gravity, and digger worms and such.

Oh wow! Welcome back, QK!
I never got around to the spoof game I PMed you about all those years ago, but it is nice to see that you didn't disappear :D. Hope to see something from you in Completed Game Announcements at some point soon!

Something that's a bit different which you might like is Year Walk.
It is currently even featuring in the Humble Weekly Bundle: https://www.humblebundle.com/weekly

I guess I'll have to wait a couple years for the reboot, after the whole "dark gritty reboot" phase is over, so that I can get the movie that was sort of promised by the first part, with a lighter tone, lots more sing-song and "adventure", and a lot less SERIOUS WAR STUFF.

You know Babar... this "tutorial" it's fine if not abused... I stopped playing BttF because it kept telling me what to do! And I couldn't find a way to turn it off. It annoyed me so much that I don't even feel like playing it anymore.
It wouldn't be constant, of course. It'd literally be for just the first puzzle in the game, which would be the first two interactions in the game. It doesn't really require a lot of teaching and tutorialing to explain that left click uses and right click looks.

A tutorial is an option, but if it's mandatory it will annoy the existing adventure gamers (again, me included) who just want to start playing, and if it's optional a lot of newbies will skip it, not knowing what's good for them.
A tutorial doesn't have to be that explicit. You could simply have a story-point advancing "puzzle" that requires looking as well as interacting, right at the start of the game, and have a message pop up like "RIGHT CLICK UNDER THE BED TO LOOK THERE", and when the player does that, "LEFT CLICK ON THE BOOK TO GET IT OUT FROM UNDER THE BED". And there, that is it.

If I'm not mistaken, AGS already has allowances for exactly this situation. There's a flag you can set in the Game Settings Pane called "Walk to hotspot in Look mode", which allows you to handle it however you wish.

Maybe have icons for Hit Points, Magic and Gold instead?
