I was asking if the encoding of the translation file should be always UTF-8.

I can select windows 1252 to have a normal display for letters like àéè etc...

But maybe I should select UTF-8 just before saving the file ? I read somewhere that the file should be in UTF-8, but I don't know if it is an obligation.

Anyway, it seems I didn't encounter any problems with that, but I encountered problems with the translation editor of Speech Center, because of the \\\\\\\\ bug.... I have deleted all the \ symbols, but I forgot that they were needed in some cases...

Well, sometimes, I have some texts that tell the story of a character, and that text will be used by a label (and the text of the label changes according to the selected character, it can't be a fixed text), and a story could take lots of letters, and there is a limit of 500 (the editor displays an error if the limit is over). So, I need the String.Format complex string  to have the full text.

Or maybe there is another way to do it ?
#303
OK Monsieur OUXX, but with your Smart String, what about a text which is too long ? I mean like this :

String History=String.Format("blablabla[LOTS OF CHARACTERS THAT THE EDITOR CAN'T STORE IN ONE LINE] %s", "[THE END OF THE TEXT]");

It could be possible and easily readable with a SmartString function ?
#304
Mister OUXX : thanks for the suggestion of Smart Strings, it look amazing, and could be useful !

Crimson Wizard : if I understand well, you suggest that instead of putting real texts in scripts, you do like :

Tom name : "TOM"
Tom history : "I am a teenager and I like fruits"

I should do :

Tom name : "Tom name"
Tom history : "Tom history"

And then, create a translation file "ENGLISH" (for example) with :

Tom name
TOM
Tom history
I am a teenager and I like fruits

When the game is launching, it selects the translation ENGLISH and so the real text (in english) appears ?

Wait, what are you saying exactly?

I was saying that I could move the original line WITH its translation anywhere else in the transcription file :)

So if I understand well, my translation file has been compiled in V1.0, and if I need to update some lines and add new ones for a V1.1, I just need to correct the sentence both in the editor and in the translation file (this way the game will recognize the new corrected line with its corrected translation), and then update the translation file in the editor, that will add the new lines I have added in my game at the end of the translation file, finally I translate them in the translation file and everything will be ok ?

Sorry for my english, I hope it is understandable...

Hi again,

So if understand well : when ags compile the translation file, all the lines are written in the file. But I could change the position of a line with its translation, since they are one under the other, it will work as intended ?

So, if I correct a line in the game editor, find it in the translation file and correct the same way this sentence in the transcription file, it will be OK ?

But if I delete a line in the game, but not in the translation file. The game won't get error because it doesn't find the line that doesn't exist anymore ?

Well don't worry Laura_hunt because I have a problem that could be linked in this thread :)

Well, my game is in alpha testing, and I have started to add a translation to get more play-testers.

My default language is french, and the translation is english.

We made a first translation of the whole game (2800 lines, uh !), then compile the trs, everything working fine.

But what happens when I add new lines in the game (in french so), because I am adding new features or new texts or modifying some existing texts for better understanding ? What should I have to do ?

Update the transcription file ? I got weird results with that : the file was 4900 lines (against 2800 before), it was like the game didn't recognize the lines we had translated, and generate almost each line at the end of the file. But the lines we had already translated were still in the file, but not recognized (some texts appear non-translated in game).

Well, so my question is : if I have to modify/add new lines to a translation file because the game is getting enhanced or developed, what should I do ?
#308
That's perfectly working, many thanks for that !!!

I think your web app is very useful :)

Hi @tzachs !

- I am using Windows 10.
- I am using Mozilla Firefox 84.0.2 (64-bit) version
- I don't know how to send you a trs file, but it seems the problem happenned to other people than me (see messages above).
- Yes, with websites these characters are appearing normally
- it is just the non-editable texts that are appearing with ? in black squares, the translation I write with these symbols is normally displayed

Hi all,

New Topic, new problem.

I am making the translation of my game, and there is the problem I encounter :

Code: ags
String nom = "Cathy";
// Translation : "Cathy"
String bio = "J'ai 21 ans et je suis une ado ennuyeuse.";
// Translation : "I am 21 years old and I am a boring teenager."

Display("%s", nom);
// Displays : "Cathy"

Display("%s", bio);
// Displays : "I am 21 years old and I am a boring teenager"

Display("%s[[%s", nom, bio);
//  It Strangely Displays : "Cathy
J'ai 21 ans et je suis une ado ennuyeuse."

Is it an editor problem ? Or I don't use the translation file as intended ?

EDIT : Appologize, I found the GetTranslation function, that is what I need to use. I very sorry to have thought it could be a program error, it was so ambitious  :grin:

Hi again !

I managed to do what I needed, but now I encounter the following problem : the function PlayMP3File plays a mp3 file without stopping at the end, so I can't change the music playing...

I have a script that scans the audiochannels playing, and if there are not, I randomly choose a music from the player's playlist. But because the PlayMP3File is playing the file "non-stop", it never changes the music that is playing...

Any idea to solve that ? Is there an old function that could verify that the file isn't playing anymore ?

Hi there ! Any update of the program for translating AGS games without the \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\[\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_ bug ? ;)
#314
OK, so when you will have fixed it, tell us how to do such things :)

Thanks a lot !
#315
Nice, thanks Speech Center !

Indeed, the best is that we can use ctrl + enter to "jump" lines, instead of explaining the translator to write [ to mean it.
#316
But, how do you translate texts that are written on several lines ? With [ symbols ? In the translator ?

Could you show me an example please ?
#317
It is the letters âéè etc... displayed by the online tool that are displayed with ? in a black square.

I open a trs file from my game in AGS (using ags editor of course)

In the text box, âéè etc... display correctly !

The SpeechCenter tool is good, but it has a bug : when you add a line in the translated text (using ctrl + enter or alt + enter), you save and reload the file, a \[\ is added in place of the line. So instead of :

Code: ags
Mon nom est Andy.

Et vous ?

My name is Andy.

And you ?

It is displayed :

Code: ags
Mon est Andy.

Et vous ?

My name is Andy.\[\And you ?

And after several saves/reloads, it could be (no joke !) :

Code: ags
Mon est Andy.

Et vous ?

My name is Andy.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\[\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\And you ?

I have mentionned it on the related topic, and someone indicated me your online tool. So I wish to find the best :)

I also find 2 others tool for translation, but the same problem : ? in black square...

Hi ! Yes I use a font that works with these characters. (Helvetica, Impact and Crackhouse). In the game it displays normally. It is in the online tool that ? appear.... :)
#319
Sorry, maybe I didn't explain clearly. In the online translator, the texts in french (native language of the game) display badly. There are ? symbols (black square with ? inside) in place of éàèê etc...

I think it is not a problem for the translation, but it is a little ugly for the translator, and it could make ununderstanding.
#320
Thanks for the link ! The only problem I find to this online app is that it doesn't display normally the àéèâ. Any idea to do that ?
