Why is Ponch trying to ultimate fight wearing that silly nightcap?  Or is it just a deflated dwarf-cap?  Whatever it is, that long-legged sex-icon is sure to open a can of whoop-ass on him at any moment....

I though this thread was all about scoring easy points against people who couldn't really defend themselves... namely Ponch! 8-0

But very well, my riposte:  it's tough being a nerd....

He's been obsessed with his nation-building campaign lately.... (roll)

Awwww, I was hoping the third group would be in keeping with the drug+alcohol addiction theme. The Point & Click Clinic?

Any group can rename themselves if they can agree on a new name....  Just count yourself lucky that I vetoed Ghost's "Sharknado Sisters" before it could be implemented. (roll)

Don't get your hopes high, dear Lord Baron. At most, 20 games would be released. Don't you try to pressure me into releasing one! :=

But others have multiple projects on the go, which will more than make up for it if you choose not to release.  Unless you have somehow developed the unwholesome power of releasing negative games, in which case may god have mercy on us all. 8-0

The Swarm Project's Byte of the Draculator was also opened sourced: the link is in this post.

Right!  In case you're still trying to peek in from the outside without actually getting involved, we've just set up our third group!  Here's where we are at:

AGSA (or Adventure Game Studio Addicts) - 8 members.

Devs-Anon (or Developers Anonymous) - 7 members.

The PCA (or the Point & Click Association) - 6 members

....for a grand total of 21 members!  Considering each member has at least one project on the go, that means a lot of quality AGS games are coming down the pipeline, so stay tuned! ;-D

Yes, this solves a lot of our expansion problems: it's so much easier when a bunch of people want to join at once!  Ghost and I have spent the better part of a week discussing possible expansion formats and negotiating which group can cram in just one more member, but just starting a new group will be so much simpler!

So stand-by guys, and I'll try to get you all the paper work in the next day or so.  ;-D

A few nibbles and an entry already!  Excellent!  And might I say welcome back to the competition, Durinde: we've missed you!

Welcome fellow writers,
This fortnight's writing challenge is to tell a short story about humans on display in a zoo-like setting.  Maybe they've been kidnapped by aliens, maybe they've been poached from distant times, maybe it's just a day job.  But they must be in some sort of zoo-like habitat, and the plot must deal with what it's like to exist in a confined space that's made to seem familiar.

Possible plot ideas might include: establishing a pecking order, trying to rebuild a critically endangered society (like an adventure game development company ;)), escape, running amok just like when humans are free (destroying the environment, or starting a war with another group.... (roll)), dealing with a weird alien behavioural biologist who tries to infiltrate the group, trying to communicate with the slightly different humans in the display across the way, the problems of running a prison camp bartering racket, grossly incompatible beings in the same enclosure (man eating beast, or incompatible personalities), a Lord of the Flies cautionary tale, survivor horror from an epidemic like the "ick" that killed all the fish in my aquarium, mistaken identity (the protagonist shares some mannerisms with a given animal), grossly inadequate climate (AC is too strong, habitat is mostly water/garbage/parked cars), problems with navigating some maze or puzzle to obtain food (humans as lab rats work for me too), or just the goofy things that quasi-intelligent beings come up with to pass the time.  Be creative! Maybe you could write a review of the new display for an alien newspaper, or publish a pamphlet advertisement, or record a folk ballad whose lyrics depict what it's like to live life on display....  Or just write a log entry, or a message on the display wall for the next human to be caught, or a message in a bottle in the display moat.  Surprise me!  Have fun!

Contest Deadline is Monday September 22 at 10pm EST (7pm Pacific)

Dear Miss Adventure,

can i learn how to stop my brain from making up more and more intersting plots that could be a cool game and learn to ffocus on one projetc?
and can I also learn to love the act of slowing muh brainz?
and how do i get rid of this caffeine addiction?

Dear selmiak,
All things being equal, it is unlikely that every new idea you have is demonstrably more interesting than every single idea you've ever had beforehand.  Recognizing your neophilic tendencies is the first step to overcoming them.  A good next step would be to submit a collection of all of your ideas to a sympathetic and trustworthy audience and use their reaction as a sounding board to find out which is likely to be the actual best idea you've had.  Since you seem to have issues with commitment, I suggest creating a short demo of that amazing idea and disseminating it in order to reconfirm that you are on the right track.
As for slowing down your brain and caffeine addiction, the two might really just be the same problem.  Your active mind appears to need no additional stimulation: I would recommend switching your addiction to a mild depressant like alcohol.

                            -M.A.

I think we're all thinking the same thing after seeing Monkey424's pictures: where's the base of the lift shaft, exactly? ;)

Congratulations to all entrants: this was one of the best writing competitions I've been involved with in terms of effort, creativity, and sheer awesomeness of output!  All the stories were clever, intense, moody, and had me on the edge of my seat.  It's been a genuine honour barely outdoing you all (;)).  I hope you all participate again next time around (and don't be afraid to bring a friend!).

Thanks everyone for voting for me.  Rereading my work, as I often do when reading through everyone else's for voting, I did notice a few instances where the links between different narratives were not entirely obvious; I'm glad you chose to overlook that and vote for me anyway.  ;-D

As for the much coveted hallowe'en horror theme, that's usually set by the winner who starts the comp in late September or early October, which will probably be the next winner, so consider that extra incentive to win next time around!

I'll be sure to start the next comp up promptly, so stay tuned for the next exciting installment of....

The Fortnightly Writing Competition! :=

I wonder what the ice bucket challenge would look like for the Little Mermaid.  I mean, she's already wet... what's the point?  And what would the dumping of a cold patch of water be like, anyway?  I mean, a warm patch of water is a sure sign of someone peeing in the pool, and cold is opposite of hot, so....  Something to think about, anyway.

As for Wild Bill, I personally think he sells his particular brand of christian American supremecy better when wearing the black hat. :P
