Hey!  Shrinking was a large part of AL-Quest 1!  But I can forgive you for not going slumming in the course of your research.
The thing is, without a plot or graphics you're not really bringing much to the table.  I advise you to compile a big list of everyday items that you can find around your home and then try to come up with uses for them if you were only four inches tall.  This should get you a few puzzles, which you can then combine with your half-story to create a basic plot.  With this in hand, and maybe a few concept drawings, your next step would be the Recruit a Team thread for an artist, programmer, etc.
      Good Luck!

Maybe....  Maybe just a little mud-wrestling?  :-*

Ha!  Now I can get more mileage out of my dung-shoveler poop animation!

On a more serious note....

also, sorry, but THe winner IS Actually not eternalJy us, but instead the prize gOes to snaKEs of Avalon.

This is because someone pointed me out to check my spam folder. Congrats Ascovel and Baron!!! :D

Ben and Calin don't reply with a pm. Ascovel and Baron I've sent you a pm.

Wha-?? ?? ?!  :o

Anyway, it would have been nice.  Thanks to everybody who did vote -we almost made it (legitimately, that is).  It is true that we are planning just a few upgrades before releasing the final -FINAL!- version.  So stay tuned.

Alright, I'm confused now.  Was there a deadline extension for the voting, or are Ben & Calin going to have to mud-wrestle us for the title?

The sprites and animations were really nice

Oh, and the walking animation of Jack was great!

Thanks guys!  I'm happy that everyone is enjoying the plot and gameplay, but the animation was my baby on this one so I wanted to say a special thank you for the kind comments about that.

I am also especially pleased that players seem to be having a lot of fun at this game, while also getting thrown by its random trippiness, and yet also come to appreciate the serious message that is embedded within it.  This kind of hazy layering was kind of what we were striving for.  Ascovel and I debated how people would think of Jack in the end: to you, is he merely a comic figure? a pathetic figure?  A tragic one?  A hero?  A victim, or a villain?  I'm interested in hearing how players perceived him in the end -did we get it right?  Let us know!

Or, you know, just leave us in the dark but vote for the game anyway.  Whatever floats your boat.

Your main-character's lovin' belt buckle
Isn't that just a zip?

You wish!

QuoteFor those who liked DP for what it was, this was my original concept that failed because it was far too complex to code.

Wow!   :o  That old background is awesome -I love the atmosphere.  I demand a remake!

QuoteSnakes of Avalon (FREE BEER inside!!!)

Ah, that explains all the sudden interest!

I am glad people are beginning to appreciate this game.  Ascovel & I kept trying to one-up each other effort wise, resulting in a better game than either of us had anticipated in the beginning (in my opinion).  Alas, this month's MAGS competition has some of the stiffest competition I've ever seen, so do spread the word that Snakes is worthy of consideration.

Congratulations on a finished game, Chicky!  Your main-character's lovin' belt buckle and crotch bulge made it difficult for me to focus on anything else in the bottom third of the screen (I only found the crowbar after several minutes of play...  ::) ), but eventually I was able to overcome and persevere, etc. etc..

Now.... back to Herman Toothrot's Monkey Island!   Wha-pishhhh!

Yes, it is true.  I've come out of unofficial retirement to collaborate on a game  :o.  Ascovel's idea of creating an adventure from the perspective of a drunkard who has a hard time discerning reality from hallucination, and past from present was too compelling for me to pass up.  Can you foil the murderous plotters without compromising your dignity (too much, anyway....)?  Can you count all 500 sprites that I drew for this project?  Can you honestly look yourself in the mirror in the morning without thinking God, what was I playing last night?

What are you waiting for?  Download now!

We have something, I swear!.  But it might be a couple hours yet.  How's about suspending your Euro-centrism a bit and giving us North American working stiffs until midnight EDT?

I'm informed that we are on track.  Something will be released tomorrow!  Here's another teaser:

I too have an enigmatic in game preview....

Well, I do not have much time, but I asked a friend to help me (especially with the art) this time. I can't still promise much because we are a bit behind schedule, I hope we can make up for it. At least we've got the story done. ;)

According to the new format you have four extra days, so technically you are ahead of schedule if you're already behind schedule.  :P

Ascovel & I are moving forward with our project, so I'm pretty confident we'll have something to share by the 30th.  Good luck to all the entrants!

If I may be so bold as to assume the temporary role of unofficial welcome wagon

I heard that the Unofficial Welcome Wagon Committee was planning to hand out free toothbrushes and fridge magnets to the newly arrived.  Is there any substance to this rumour?

I'm also interested in splitting the workload on the one room.  If anybody is interested in collaborating PM me.  I have the seed of an idea for this competition starting to germinate, but I'm open to new things depending on what someone else might bring to the table.  I'm pretty flexible in how we divide the work load (I'm a competent but not phenomenal artist, programmer and writer).

According to the Mags April Competition rules posted recently:

QuoteTopic: ONE ROOM ONE MONTH

QuoteKeep it two people team MAX!

I'm a busy guy, but I think I can handle half a room in a month.  I'm looking for a collaborator on this; someone interested in only a short-term commitment.  Moderate-to-nil work ethic an asset, music skills preferable (though not a necessity), crazy ideas imperative.  PM me a two sentence plug of your idea and the first full sentence on page 83 of whatever book you're reading right now if interested -I'll make my decision based on that information and get back to you with a yea or nay by April 1st.

Baron

EDIT: It's April 7 -stop PMing me already!  Our project is well underway.

The British government has no legal power over spelling in their language (unlike certain authoritarian regimes on the continent).  I stopped reading after that.

5. Is the selected sprite no longer remembered? (If you routinely edit hundreds of sprites you'll know what I mean - it's now hard to remember which one you edited last)

I remember this feature fondly.  The last sprite to be double-clicked into a view would remain highlighted so that you could easily find the next one in sequence -really handy if multiple sprites looked almost identical.

AGSers... always with the nostalgia.  In four to six years these will be the good old days!

I agree, and my own life experience is evidence, that as members progress to the next life-stage  (career + family) they have less time for their hobbies.  I applaud the likes of SSH and Vince Twelve (etc.) for still actively participating in the adventure game scene on top of their real world obligations, even if it's not as frequent or as free as in the past.

I doubt that the old-timers have forgotten about adventure gaming, however.  For me, I find, it's in the blood.  Once an AGSer, always and AGSer.  Just look at all the lost souls who periodically turn up in "Remember Me?" threads.  Other obligations or passions might detain them from posting, but I bet every so often those old-timers still get a game idea.  They'll be back.

As for the forums not being as interesting as they used to be.... it's because all the really exciting dirt gets dished on the somewhat secret and incredibly exclusive old-timer-only boards.  Tell me I'm wrong!

Well, well!  Chicky has rebuilt his fortress of Barad-dur, and once more menaces Middle Earth with this long-anticipated game.  Can anyone stop him, this time?
