I'm not a definite any more because my summer plans have got a bit wonky over the last couple of weeks, sorry.

Disco, Firenze is Florence :D

Miami was only slightly less expensive than the house AGA is suggesting.

FYI telling the rental folks that we're a group of twentysomethings doesnt actually help matters, they usually expect that to mean its more likely to get trashed.  We're not any different to any other group of friends wanting to rent a villa in a competitive area in Tuscany, there's no bargaining to be had here - what have we got to offer them that would make them consider giving us a discount? :P

If you want to look for campsites, then feel free, but it seems like over the last few years (since 2007) that renting somewhere more private is the way things are going as less of us are students and more of us have full time jobs.

AGA's house seems better to me, and seems to be easier to get to.  Having enough room is always important otherwise people end up with nowhere to sleep and thats a bad thing.

Everything is fine by me.  And Adamski.

I might be there.  Anytime from mid-June onwards is fine with me.

Oh yeah and I'm happy with Italy.

Marco! You seem to have missed this pre-planning thread:

Just thought I'd point you to the discussion so far :)

Yeah, if you do this exact sequence: sleep with old lady, put on clothes, call phone, ask for an ambulance, and then go to check her bedside cabinet it loops the "oh shit..." text/walking animation twice, and then crashes with the error message that Stee posted.

Other than that, a fun game! :D

Edit: It will also do this if you say no to the ambulance too.  If you go to the cabinet and then put on clothes and she dies, this error doesn't occur.

Brings back so many memories! :)  Thanks for this CJ!  Adamski and I are very interested in a DVD-type package!

Or alternatively you can use this site (http://clipnabber.com/) to grab the video, I believe.

Edit: Yep, worked just fine :)

Excellent, um, work! everyone :D  This is possibly the strangest/most amazing thing I've watched so far this year!  I wish we'd managed to film more, hehe.

Hey, I went out to eat falafel and still spoke to people about Holland! :P It happened on many occasions throughout the week.
#12
Well if we're all going for Holland now... :) then I'm up for it!

QuoteIt's unfair for the previous mittens attendants to give the host to someone who never attended

And I guess you could say that it's unfair for you to host another Mittens when you've hosted one before?  This is just ridiculous.  It's not about "fairness", it's about practicality and willingness to do so.  I don't personally give two shits who hosts, because as we've discussed, basically the person hosting books the property or whatever and then we all go from there as a group.  I think you're overexaggerating how big an issue this actually is.
#14
What the hell is going on here?  There is no reason why this should be an issue.  Some people's posts are way out of line here.

I like how people who weren't at Mittens are saying that the discussions at Mittens excluded people!  How would they know? They weren't there? :P  There were multiple discussions throughout the week (and by discussions, someone said "So next year, how about Holland?"  "Sounds good") and its not like everyone at previous Mittens decided exactly where Mittens should be :P

I really don't mind which country we go for - although I think that Holland would be easier, doesn't mean it would be better! - but there's no need to argue about how we came about the idea of Holland - as Nacho said, other countries have been more spur of the moment/one person deciding they can host.

Italy is a lovely country, I've been there before and would love to see more of it :)  Plenty of places to stay, locations to choose from, etc.  Not having a native Italian speaker may be a handicap, but it'd also force us to brush up our Italian a bit?

I've never been to Holland, which is also a plus for me, I'd like to visit! :)  Local AGSers does help a lot, I'm sure we'd find somewhere great to stay anyway.

Both are pretty easy to get to from here as well :P

I am for either, or both! :D

On Miami-Mittens related discussion, here are the three brief videos I have!

I am not sold on the idea of renting out a hotel floor - I reckon it probably -would- be more expensive than renting a house (hotels tend to charge per night!), and less convenient: we wouldn't be able to cook our own food easily, there'd be few common areas for us all to hang out, and even if we got a floor to ourselves, there'd still be other guests that could get in the way :P

Equally I am not completely sold on a cruise, for many of the same issues as a hotel (expense, convenience, common areas, other guests) and the inability to be flexible about what we want to do and when we want to do it.

I personally think that renting a house/cabin/villa/mansion works pretty well for our needs, we have space, privacy for individuals but also common areas for groups, we can cook as we please or go out to eat, we don't need to worry about intruding on anyone elses fun, and they don't ruin ours! :)  Miami was perhaps an exception, as the mansion was pretty pricey (although I don't think anyone would argue that it wasnt worth the price?), put generally these house rentals work out reasonable enough between the size groups we're looking at.  This is all just my opinion though, other people might love the idea of a cruise or hotel :)

A camera? Surely you mean my bionic hand.

I took so many photos so that when we all get senile we can reminisce about "those crazy internet days when people met in reality".

I am also enjoying the photos that other people have provided!  The group photos especially turned out great, apart from grumpy AGA.

You know you want these photos!  Adamski and I worked on captions for these late? last night, they may make little sense in the cold harsh light of day!

Warning: There are 550ish photos, click at own risk.
