The number of options in the editor need to match up with the dialog script. Having more options in the dialog script than in the editor will cause this error.
Just add the 5 options to the list first, then fill in the dialogue in the script editor.
#462
So it's not possible? Oh well, I'll just do a run-script thingie then. Would've been nice if the dialog script supported displaythought, though.
#463
There's a normal command for it, 'SetSpeechStyle'.

From the manual:

SetSpeechStyle (new_style)

Changes the way in which speech text is displayed. This modifies the setting originally set in the editor. NEW_STYLE can be:
SPEECH_LUCASARTS     speech text over character's head
SPEECH_SIERRA        close-up portrait of character
SPEECH_SIERRABKGRND  close-up portrait + background window for text
SPEECH_FULLSCREEN    QFG4-style full screen dialog pictures

Example:
SetSpeechStyle (SPEECH_SIERRA);

Is it possible to call displaythought (with the thinking view) from the dialogue script without having to do a dialog request? I couldn't find anything in the manual regarding this.

Thanks~

Thanks for all the great entries!

It's really hard to decide on a winner when there are so many good entries. I'm not sure on what criterias I should pick the winner, either.

Anyway, it has to be one of the following:

Darth Mandarb:

BerserkerTails:

Opo Terser:

Big brother:

Arboris:

kaaZ:

Mr_Frisby:

Pixelcat:

Okay - from an objective point of view, big brother would be the winner. I'm not a fan of bloody stuff, but there's so much going on in his entry. Looks like he put a lot of effort in it, and the quality is amazing.

From a subjective point of view, I'd pick Pixelcat, because his entry made me smile.

I think that being objective would be more fair in competitions, so the winner is... big brother!

Thanks for participating... now on to the next sprite jam!

Darth Mandarb: No problem! :)

Highwaygal: Thanks! Yeah, I posted some pixel stuff at the pixelation forums yesterday, along with that picture.
Well, blurryness is almost always an issue in photoshopped backgrounds, except when you actually pixel them. If I can find a good, fast way to pixel my BGs, I'll do that, otherwise they'll have to stay this way.

I find making games entertaining, that makes it worth the effort for me. As Hotspot said, it's a hobby.

You'll probably get some satisfaction out of it when your game is finished an people post comments about it, but that shouldn't really be the reason for making a game in the first place.

It should be fun, that's what games are all about. If it's not fun anymore, I stop. Isn't it like that with all hobbies? :D
#468
You think? Hmm... maybe I will change it, gonna check how it looks with some other backgrounds.
#469
Cool, more entries! :)

I just wanted to say that you shouldn't feel restricted to only 128x128 or a square ratio - smaller is okay too. 128x128 is pretty big for a sprite, anyway.

Also, if you're feeling like doing a close-up pic or a funky perspective, by all means, do so.

For example, this magically inclined hoody wizard guy would also be a valid entry:

There's so many kinds of old-fashioned heroes... can't wait to see more! :D
#470
Yep, I think he definately falls into the old-fashioned hero category! :D
#471
Thanks!
I think I got even more away from an anime/manga style now:

Or at least I hope so!Ã,  :D
#472
Those are great, really good reference material! The animations are a bit exaggerated - which is good, because you learn a lot just by looking at them. :D
#473
Oh, whoops. I removed it from the server yesterday. I'll put it back up right away! Try downloading again in 4 minutes.

The heroes of the future wear sunglasses and trenchcoats a lot and also appear not to like the effects of sun rays on their skin, being generally 'bad-ass' in a very pasty white manner.

And now, I asketh thee: Where art thou, heroes of the old?

Okay, so that's the new topic - let's pixel some good, old-fashioned heores! Knights, Warriors, Barbarians, and barely dressed Amazon women - whatever you like! Hooray!

Restrictions:

Colors: 32
Size: 128x128

The style and presentation is totally up to you. Close-ups, Posing, Battle - anything goes.

I've made a little pic to get this thing going:

So, let's rock, or something! :D
#475
Okay! :D Another question - here's a quote from the rules:

"If you have an idea for a new competition, then post it in the General Discussion forum. It will then be allowed here if it gets approval from the majority of forum members."

I'm not sure, but it seems this doesn't apply to sprite jams, is that right?
Also, sorry for asking so many questions, heh. :)
#476
Waah! Thanks! :D
When I entered this compo, I didn't know you can actually win at those. So, um, from checking the other sprite jams, I deduced that the winner is supposed to post the next sprite jam, did I get that right?
#477
Thanks! In that case, I'll stick to that style, it's fun to draw like that and a good change to my usually pretty cutesy manga style, heheh. :D
#478
I don't believe in talent, only practising helps to get better at stuff (at least that's how it is for me). :)

Anyway, I've been trying to do some art stuff after having abandoned drawing for about a month. For this game, I want to use a non-manga/anime-like style. I usually draw manga stuff, but I want the artwork for this game to be a bit more natural and not too cute.

Here's my attempt:

Does this still look kinda like manga stuff? I'm having a hard time telling... I really should do less manga art, heh.
#479
Hey, that's a good idea... I'll do that, thanks! :D
#480
Thanks for the comments! :D

jetxl: The normal gui will be even more empty if i remove the menu button, and i need something in the middle, so I don't really want to put it somewhere else.

Also, I've made the interface only go 50% black when the menu is open, and it opens when pressing F5 already. Not sure if I'm gonna add volume/speed sliders, maybe later on.
