Mr Frisby: Those are awesome. It's good you're not making a game with them.

SteveMcCrea: Ishtar is one of the funniest movies ever. Okay, well not one of the FUNNIEST, but it's still got quite a few moments of hilarity. Especially the beginning. I suggest, if you haven't seen it, that you do. Yes, it is very cheesy, and hokey, but it's also very entertaining.

The early Sierra adventures taught me how to read and write. Kings Quest 5 taught me how to use dos (Had to learn how to start the game). I know that I'll be sharing all my adventures with my eventual kids.

For now though, I have my girlfriend, who's only played the Myst games... Hahaha, oh the games I'm going to make you play dear, hahaha.

General Discussion / Re: Anyone seen "Saw"?
Thu 24/03/2005 20:59:15
I haven't seen it yet, but I fully intend on renting it.

Why, you ask? Not because so many people like it, and think it's disturbing/scary, but because my brother saw it in the theatres, and said it was so terrible. Apparently, according to him, the acting got so bad that he actually starting laughing at the screen while in the theatre, which caused the entire theatre to burst into laughter.

Man, that's the kind of movie I like to see!

Yes, Mr. Frisby, I have seen The Life Aquatic. Twice. It's amazing, as are all of Wes Anderson's films.

Darth: I've seen those sprites before, and heard you talk about your Big Lebowski game. As one of my top 10 movies of all time, I hope to see the game sometime in the future, I know you'd do a good job of it.

As for fan-games myself, I've always been planning an adventure adaptation of Brian De Palma's "Phantom of the Paradise", as it's another one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time. The game, if ever made, would just follow the movie, but with puzzles. I just like trying to find puzzles within the movie without deviating from the plot at all (Which is a challenge, but completely do-able in this movie's case).

Well the first bit of "melody" sounds a bit like Sloop John B, but other than that, I'm pretty sure it's not a Beach Boys song. Like Kinoko, I was reminded of LSL6 immediately, but I'm pretty sure it's not that either.

It is familiar though.

I love intros to games that are either very exciting or mood-setting. Think of some of your favorite game intros, and think of why they were so awesome. For me, one of the best game intros would be Final Fantasy VII. Not only does it start with a bit of mood setting (Showing Aeris in Midgar) before showing a large view of the city of Midgar, the setting for the first act of the game. Finally it zooms into an oncoming train which docks at a station, and out pops the main hero, who is thrust into a battle right away. The music here is very exciting and excellent.

So when making an intro, I would think about:
-Mood-setting
-Exciting, start with a bang?
-Great music

Then I would figure out how to get those three elements to fit with the rest of the story in a great opening sequence that will get players hooked on the game. Then, to work!

Every single Sierra adventure, with a couple rare exceptions such as Ecoquest 1 and Torin's Passage. Every single LucasArts adventure with the exception of Zac and Loom. Also own quite a few other classics, such as CD versions of Star Trek 25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites, also the three latest Tex Murphy adventures (UKAM, PD and Overseer).

Nyah nyah, you spelt FIERY wrong, nyah nyah!!

Hahaha, seriously, good entry Dave. I'm currently watching an episode in my head where Jackie Chan punches a Dialek over and over again.

Galaxy: You need the GAMESEEK topic. Someone there might be able to help you out. Much better to post there than bumping a 5 month old topic.

I think it's going to be great. The first one didn't scare me as much as it was a really good mystery that kept me watching, wondering how it was going to end (I even remember thinking: "Hey, this would make a good Adventure Game..."). I love horror movies, scary, non-scary OR cheesy.

I've never really had any real Seinfeld moments, but if you've ever seen the BBC comedy "Coupling", there was this one time my friend and I got caught in the giggle loop. It was horrible. And hilarious.

Man, Escape from New York is soooo awesome. Haven't seen Escape from LA since it came out in theatres though, so I can't pass judgement on it.

Progzy, to clarify: Solid Snake is a character from the Metal Gear games. In Metal Gear Solid 2, he disguises himself, and says his name is Iriquois Pliskin, obviously a reference to Escape from New York.

Also, Snake is a clone of Big Boss, who has an eye patch.

I'm pretty sure there was a third Manhunter game planned, "Manhunter London", as the second game ends with a teaser for it. Unfortunately the Manhunter games didn't sell too well and the series was canned.

Another neat tidbit of information (Which I've only heard about, can't find any reference site right now), is that the original designers of the Manhunter series bought the rights to it back from Sierra in the early to mid 90s. Right now they're only working on edutainment games, but perhaps in the future we might see the return of Manhunter.

I think DC is asking about the actual paintings done by Sierra artists for their VGA games, which were then scanned into the computer to appear in the actual game. If that's what you mean, I don't know where on earth you'd be able to find one... Ebay maybe?
#158
Still, with a few more tweaks, it definitely would look like an old Sierra background, for sure! Kinda makes me want to play Conquests of the Longbow again...

Stuh, wow. That's amazing.

Now if only I could draw/paint that good to begin with, haha.

Two games... "Rich Phycho: Trapped with Hell" and "Rich Phycho 2: Cruisin". These games are masterpieces. One of these days, I'm going to make a third one with high production values, it'll be amazing. I wish I could claim credit for the first two.

Relevant links:
Trapped with Hell - Original Completed Games Announcements topic. Complete with my brilliant review of the game. Unfortunately all the pictures have long since been lost to the internet, and I don't think I have them anymore.

shove it - LIFesucks - The designer's webpage. Was both Rich Phycho games for download, plus his third game "Zombietown", which I have never played. Also it claims that he will not put his fourth game up for download, because it is 20 MBs. Can anyone offer some bandwidth to this guy?
