General Discussion / Re: RPGs anyone?
Mon 08/11/2004 04:39:35
I play RPGs all the time. I love them, both Japanese and American ones. The last one I completed was Morrowind (American), and I'm currently playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Also American).

My favorites, however, are both Japanese. "Lunar: The Silver Star" and "Final Fantasy VII".

I've seen screenshots from your game Knioko, and it looks quite impressive. Even without your background (Cirque de Zale ruled!), I'd still play it when it came out. I'm definatley looking forward to it!

Give Tim the sticker, and use him to float over to the demon and stick it to him. Then read the words using Tiffany.

Don't you know that guard? Maybe try talking to someone else who knows him for an idea.

Talk to Mrs. G about her husband. Apparently he's only good for mowing the lawn.

Even BIGGER Hint:

If only there was some way to make the lawn grow, so Mr. G would have to mow it...

Get the Miracle-Grow Formula from Yoker's farm, use it on the grass outside the store, then talk to Mrs. G.

General Discussion / Re: Episode III Trailer
Sun 07/11/2004 16:27:34
Yeah, I saw it on Friday, before The Incredibles (Which was a VERY good movie, I might add). I think it looks REALLY good, and I'm glad that it didn't give any of the plot away. I like the "series of images" style trailer, I think it works with the Star Wars movies, which are still just supposed to be Serials, in the form of Flash Gordon.

I particularly can't wait to see Kashyyyk (The Wookie planet). It looks pretty sweet.

You don't need to get the bottle of wine from the museum. There is a way to get some wine, however. Perhaps there's someone who can help you out...

Tim can't reach the rat by floating? You need something long he can use to open the window.

That antenna looks long enough, if only there was a way to get it down. Maybe something to do with the bird.

Solution:
Spoiler
Get Tim to turn the Device up to full power (Located beside the TV). Then get Tiffany to make the bird sing on the antenna. While it's singing, turn the TV on with Tim.

Suspect Device: The game likes to be slow on my computer during some scenes as well (Particularly the bee scene). What help, is going into WinSetup, and changing the resolution down to 320 x 200, and turning off Anti-Aliased Scaled sprites. The graphics might not be QUITE as sharp, but it doesn't really ruin anything, and speeds up the game.

Pressure switch, hey? So it only registers when someone steps on it... Perhaps there's a way to make sure one of your characters DOESN'T step on it...

And if my clue is too vague:

Use Tim to float over the pressure switch

I'm glad everyone is enjoying the game! I had a blast making it.

Oh, and for whoever asked, the entire team was:

Leader/Writer: Dave Gilbert
Graphics: Dart and Scotch
Music: BerserkerTails
Programming: YOke

Though by the end we all did everyone else's jobs. The end game credits detail it a bit more.

I'm pretty sure all the next generation consoles will be using Blu-Ray (Or similar) medias for their games.

I installed the latest drivers for my video card AND...

...Still no dice. Man, this is starting to REALLY annoy me! I mean, what could've happened to my PC to make ALL AGS games not work? I think my computer's annoyed at me because I've been spending time on the other one playing Doom 3...

...I might just have to wipe the darn thing. Transfer all my files to the other computer and start clean. *SIGH*

Please, if anyone has any other suggestion, I'm happy to hear them!

Okay, so I re-installed DirectX 8.1, got rid of my Spyware, ran my virus check, and still no dice. I've also noticed that other programs have started Not Responding, then locking up my computer. Ad-Aware does this (I used Spybot to get rid of my spyware), as does MoZilla when I try to listen to midis or watch movies in the browser (This uses Quicktime). So, I don't think it's isolated to just AGS.

...Any suggestions? I fear that my computer is starting to collapse upon itself!
#293
I first noticed the problem after trying (And failing) to run the Terminator 2031 demo. Then after that, all my AGS games wouldn't work. I've tested the Two of a Kind beta, Maniac Mansion Deluxe, and even Pleurghburg, and they all don't work!

I ran one-button-checkup on Norton Systemworks last night, and got rid a big bunch of registry errors, but still no working AGS games. I'm going to run my Anti-Virus program, Ad-Aware, and Spybot Search and Destroy today, and hopefully that'll have some effect.

Okay, so I'm completely screwed now. See, everytime I run an AGS Game, it locks up my computer, causing me to restart. What happens, is when an AGS Game runs normally, in the taskbar, the icon for it pops up with the title "Adventure Game Studio". Then, after a second or so, the name of the game replaces Adventure Game Studio, then the game begins (Full-screen).

But now, whenever I try to run a game, the "Adventure Game Studio" icon appears in the taskbar, but it never changes to the game's name. I try clicking on it, or closeing it, but it doesn't work. Then, when I hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and tell Windows to End Task, the computer completely freezes up.

Has anyone ever had this problem? It's becoming really annoying! I can't play any new games, such as Ben Jordan 3, I can't play my own game, etc... I'm running Windows 98 Second Edition, just in case that's relevant. Any help would be much appriciated!

Isn't it China that has severe laws about the number of kids per family?  How does that work?

The One Child policy. I learned about it a bit last year during school. Basically China gives benefits to families with only ONE child, but not to families with more than one child. At first I didn't like this idea, but on more thought it's grown on me. The fact that China's government is actually trying to do something about the overpoulation. And they're being smart about it too. They offer free vasectomies (Spelling?) to any male who wants one, among other things they do to insure that families only have one child.

And back on topic, with the whole Bad Parents thing... I feel privilaged. I live in British columbia, canada, and can't remember the last time I saw an example of bad parenting. Like today, a bunch of my friends were hanging out by a playground (We had the day off school), and a little kid, maybe four came up to us. He was there at the playground with his mother and another kid, and mere seconds after he had started talking to us, the mother rushed over to see where he had gone to. She smiled, saw that he was giving us all high fives (Really cute kid), then saw his mother and rushed back to her. She picked him up, smiled at us, and walked back to the playground.

Ummm... I think you've gravely misunderstood the Compled Game Announcements forum.

See, the Forum Rules clearly state that the forum is for posting announcements for games that you have made, finished, and are ready for download.

I remember that I had the AGI version of KQ4 for my old Apple IIgs. I also remembered they were copied disks though, hahaha.

Damn, I wish I could remember which of my dad's friends we copied that game from. He'd probably sell it to me for 5 bucks if he still had it, hahaha.

QuoteI think it's silly to say something like "deaths are part of what makes adventure games".

So do I actually. See, what I said was that "To me, deaths are part of what makes adventure games". In my post above, I made sure to state a few times that this was my opinion.

Anyway, back on topic... I played "It came from the Desert" a few years back, and I remember quite enjoying it. I didn't think of it as an adventure game at the time, but I think I'll have to replay it again.

One thing I've noticed about my time spent at these forums, is the prejudice towards Sierra's classic adventures. Now, this is only my opinion, but it seems to me like alot of people on the forums like the LucasArts adventures better. And usually, when asked why, they say because you can't die or get stuck. Now to me, these are pivotal adventure game elements. I was always the first to save my game, then move Graham closer to the cliff edge, etc... Part of an adventure game's charm are the deaths.

Now, I can see why alot of amateur adventure games don't support deaths, as most death sequences can take a long time due to animations needed. Thing is, I get caught up more in a game when I can make one wrong step and BOOM, I die. I think it adds alot of tension to a game, something I always seemed to find missing in most of Lucasarts' games.

Today's adventure games just don't seem to intrigue me as much as the adventure games of old. Like, for example, in "Police Quest 2", at the end, when you finally find the kidnapped girl, and all the sudden she says (Referring to the villain of the game):"Oh no Sonny, I hear footsteps. HE'S COMING BACK!!". I remember, when I first played that, and even still when I play that, my hair sticks straight up. I haven't had that feeling from many adventure games these days.

The latest adventure games I've truly loved that have come out in the past couple years have been Yahtzee's "Days" games. When you knew the welder was on the loose, and could actually kill you, well, that was scary.

I think that's what is missing from adventure games this days. The ability to screw up. You can screw up in real life, so hy not be able to in adventure games?

General Discussion / Re: Summer o phat

Hmmmm... My summer was pretty good. I hung out with friends, worked with the nicets of people on an amazing adventure game (Epileptic Fish forever!), found my soul mate... I'd say all in all 'twas a good couple months.
