Interesting read, everyone.

Well, I'm probably in the middle age group or so of these forums, I'm 18. Personally, I couldn't be happier with the way my life seems in a state of flux. I've just graduated from High School, and in September I'm going to be starting at University. I'm looking forward to it, and whatever will come after it.

I guess I'm not too afraid of Aging, as I have my parents as a good example. My dad is nearly 50, and he's exactly like myself, only with more geek experience. He loves movies and video games, and hasn't given up the things he did when he was a youth.

I think that when people get older, it's a choice they make. No one says you have to become an old-fart, with lime green pants on, playing bingo all day. I know I'm going to choose to stay the same person, only with an older face. I'll still go see movies on opening night, I'll still pre-order video games, and I'll still make music.

Getting old doesn't have to change anything.

Quote from: Zor on Wed 20/07/2005 16:57:38And their 'classics' section doesn't even contain half the real classics. Pfffff, fancy calling a Star Wars game a classic!

Well, I consider most of Lucasarts first Star Wars games classics. X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and Dark Forces I would call classic. The other ones vary from "Pretty Fun" to "Abysmal".

Nice to hear your trip was okay, Dave! I'm sure I'll hear more about it later, haha.

According to Mobygames, the third game in the series wa splanned to be called "Crusader: No Mercy", though it was never made. So I don'tthink it really matters whether or not it has an R word.

Also another question left at the end of the book...

Spoiler
R.A.B, the person who has the real locket/horcrux. The only person I can think who has the initials RB in the whole series was Sirius Black's brother... I can't remember his first name right now, but I'm certain it started with an R. Perhaps he turned away from Voldemort and stole the Horcrux years ago? Who knows...

Sluggy Freelance will always be the comic for me.

Yeah, I thought it was very good, another great addition. I also noticed that it was very very dark, much darker than the other books. Especially in sequences such as:

Spoiler
The fight between Harry and Malfoy in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom.

Spoiler
Ron convulsing after being poisoned

Spoiler
The Inervi in the water of the cave, grabbing for Harry and Dumbledore, coming to life etc...

AGS Games in Production / Re: Spooks~July MAGS

Wow, this is looking quite good! For a first game, I must say, I'm impressed. Not many can even post a proper Games in Production post about their first game, let alone have it look as good as this one does.

Good luck, and I hope to play it at the end of the month.

"Four light warriors, each carrying an ORB."

Seriously, that is the most cliché RPG or Adventure story ever. Why does the Evil Wizard want to destroy the world? Why is he evil?

Ali was right. There needs to be some sort of spin on the story or else it'll just be boring to the player. Perhaps the big hero, the "one man with a dagger" steps forward to defeat the Evil Wizard, cheered on by the entire world. Then he gets killed, and so the world turns to his less-than-heroic brother. At least that would allow for a semi-interesting story.

I loved the new version of the movie. In my opinion, is much more like the book, and captured the style of the book much better. Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka was just too grand, he knew how to deal with children. Yet in the book, and in Tim Burton/Johnny Depp's interpretation of the role, Willy Wonka is very much a hermit.

Quote from: Darth Mandarb on Fri 15/07/2005 18:34:03But the Farrelly brothers can pull it off if anybody can. I'll go see it just 'cause it's a Farrelly bros movie.

Agreed. I love the Farrelly brothers.

As for all those movies, I'm so dissapointed with the lack of creativity in there. Seriously, the one movie I'm looking forward to most in the next couple months is ElizabethTown, the new Cameron Crowe movie. At least it's not a remake, or a sequel, or anything.

Some of the movies on that list kill me inside though. Toy Story 3 is being done without Pixar, which is a crime against humanity. Bruce Almighty 2? If it's anything like the first one, which didn't get good until the producers realised halfway through that they couldn't just fill a whole movie of Jim Carrey doing crazy crap and gave it plot, then I'll pass.

As for By The Sword beginning production again, that's basically the best news in this thread.

Yeah but then a new meter, besides food would appear. The "Life Crystal" meter would show how long it's been since you last used a Life Crystal, and if you didn't use them enough your character would get really irate.

This is looking quite good, Mats. I've been watching your stuff in the Critic's Lounge for a while, and it just keeps getting better.

I noticed you were looking for a musician. Perhaps I could help? I've been wanting to work on a new score for quite sometime now. As for examples of my work, I did the music for "Two of a Kind".

The fools took their helmets off! Good thing they are adventure game characters and can't die...

Correction: They are LucasArts adventure game characters, and can't die. If The Dig was a Sierra adventure, you'd be certain that taking off your helmet would, in fact, kill you. And if it was a comedic Sierra adventure, there'd be a fun animation of your head exploding.

My mother has diabetes, and she's been doing fine. It's amazing some of the technological leaps there's been, such as those little Insulin Pen thingies.

As for myself, I swear I have a mild case of OCD. It's not too terrible, but there are some things that if I don't do in the correct order, it'll bug me for an hour or so.

I constantly crave Peanut Butter Chocolate Ice-Cream. Unfortunately, it's hard to find it packaged, usually you can only get it from actually Ice-Cream stores (Such as Baskin Robbins). So usually my cravings are only half filled with a more common flavour of Ice-Cream.

The one problem I have with it is incosistant size. The bed and end-table are miniscule compared to the gigantic dresser and bookshelf. Think about creating a sprite that would be the right size to sleep in that bed, then move that sprite over to the dresser and the doors. The whole right side of the room needs to be shrunk, or the bed and end table need to be made bigger.

Well, I don't think Dave, nor BB would appreciate you undressing Rosangela Blackwell.

As to everyone else wondering about the new BoE, I don't know where Dave posted those on the forum (Probably in the ACR thread), but I see them regularly in our private forum.

And yes, don't continue undressing her. Like Privateer Puddin said, I don't want to be thinking about a dirty animation while working on BoE. Considering I'm doing the music, if that animation were to continue, I might slip some "Bow-Chicka-Wow-Wow"s in the score, haha.

EDIT: However, if anyone is serious about animating sprites like these, we are looking for sprite animators for BoE. Drop Dave a PM if you're interested. Last I knew, however, there wasn't a sex scene in the design doc,  :P

Well... I have no hate towards WME, I just prefer AGS.

QuoteOverall quality of WME-made games seems to be a tad better than one of those made in AGS...

Okay, now you can't say things like that. That's an opinion, not fact. In your opinion, the overall quality of WME games is a tad better than AGS Games.

And I disagree with that comment. Not because it's a different engine, but because I haven't played any games made with WME that have been as fun as, say, the Ben Jordan games, Pleughburg: Dark Ages, King's Quest II VGA etc...

And before someone starts yelling at me to play The Dead City, I've already played it. And I thought it was terrible. Sure it had pretty graphics, and pretty good music, but that was it. Here's a review I wrote, taken from the AdventureGamer forums:

Just downloaded it, beat it in 40 minutes, and here are my thoughts:

I didn't really like it. I thought the best part of the game was the music, which really blended well with what was happening on the screen. What I didn't like, was the gameplay. I found most of the time I played the game, I was searching screens. Not for hotspots, but for things that had changed. I would do somehting, then serach every screen I'd been to in hopes that someone had appeared that I could talk to, or something like that.

Also, the main character just bugged me.

Spoiler
He was so cliche, but wasn't even well portrayed as a stock-character. He was like an imitation of a cliche, anti-hero. For example, when he realises that Steep most likely slept with Tess' dead body, then just kills him. Sure, there's a motive, but the character is just so bland about the whole situation.

The lack of animations also really killed the game for me. When the text describes someone walking over to a door and unlocking it, then walking off into the night, only to have their sprite just dissapear, it kinda screams "Amateur Adventure".

Also, the puzzles were far too simple. I never got stuck once, and felt that a lot of the game was played for me. For example:

Spoiler
The code for the door near the end of the game was very poorly executed. By talking to Tess' ghost (How did she know the code in the first place?), you were given a hint to the code. This was all fine, and actually got me excited, thinking I'd see a neat little puzzle play out. But after learning the hint, and examining the writing on the wall, the game literally gives you the code. I mean, it gives it to you as an inventory item!

Another thing, was the characters were not very developed at all. I didn't care to learn anything about them, and they felt much like wooden blocks the whole game, instead of actual characters. Also everyone, including the junkie, talked exactly the same. This could be a translation fault, but it still bugged me.

I did enjoy playing the game, but I personally don't think it deserves the praise it's been receiving. It's still a lot better than some games out there, but it's definitely not one of the best.

So that's my take on WME. It's not bad, in fact, I don't have any gripes with it. I just haven't played a good game made with it yet.

I downloaded it, but then was politely told by it that it wouldn't run on my computer. Oh well... I'll try it out when I upgrade near the end of summer.
